[00:00:05] Speaker A: Talk.
So you've hit the button. Tell me what is it? Or what? What? What? What. What. What. What is. What. What is this?
[00:00:13] Speaker B: Well, it's. It's.
I got the fancy Maker's Mark. Not even the regular Maker's Mark.
[00:00:20] Speaker A: I see.
[00:00:21] Speaker B: And then, you know, I made it into a Manhattan.
[00:00:26] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:00:28] Speaker B: Then I use orange bitters.
[00:00:30] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:00:31] Speaker B: And then a little tiny bit of orange juice, and it's all like, blood orange.
That's what I'm drinking. What are you drinking?
[00:00:38] Speaker A: What am I drinking? I am
[00:00:40] Speaker B: nothing. Because we don't have a guest.
[00:00:41] Speaker A: Ah, no,
[00:00:43] Speaker B: you only get drunk when we have a guest. Oh, yeah, yeah. You have the cup of whatever that is.
[00:00:48] Speaker A: Mystery beverage.
[00:00:50] Speaker B: What? Mystery what. What beverage? Mystery beverage is that?
[00:00:55] Speaker A: I don't quite know.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: Does it have alcohol in it?
[00:00:58] Speaker A: It's a mystery beverage.
[00:01:00] Speaker B: All right, well, we should cheers our mystery beverage. In honor of here, I'll put my sticker forward in honor of issue six.
[00:01:06] Speaker A: Issue. Oh, six. It's six. Oh, my gosh. I'm sorry.
[00:01:09] Speaker B: A beefy Batman.
I have
[00:01:12] Speaker A: a new
[00:01:12] Speaker B: project for the week, by the way.
[00:01:14] Speaker A: Oh, great. What have you brought this time? God. Oh, Jesus. A whole box. It doesn't open up, people. He's got to tear the package apart.
[00:01:24] Speaker B: I don't even.
My, my. Don't
[00:01:26] Speaker A: give this man a knife, people.
What do you got in this box?
[00:01:31] Speaker B: Ah, this is very important day.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:01:33] Speaker B: We are getting ready for Grit City comic show on November 7th.
If you're watching this, you probably know that we've been posting lots of shorts about it.
[00:01:45] Speaker A: It's true. We have. We have shorts. We're wearing them.
We'll be wearing your words at the show. I
[00:01:51] Speaker B: don't wear anything down there during the show.
[00:01:52] Speaker A: I.
You wear. Don't you wear a utility kill?
[00:01:56] Speaker B: Nah,
[00:01:57] Speaker A: nah,
[00:01:59] Speaker B: nah. It's like heated rivalry shower down there.
[00:02:01] Speaker A: Oh, I see.
[00:02:04] Speaker B: Look. Look what I found.
I. I found stuff we're bringing to the show.
[00:02:13] Speaker A: Oh, my goodness.
[00:02:15] Speaker B: It's open and sort a new project during podcast Open and I don't think I have room for this.
[00:02:20] Speaker A: Open
[00:02:21] Speaker B: and sort merchandise.
[00:02:22] Speaker A: Oh, boy. Merchandise merch.
[00:02:25] Speaker B: Like
[00:02:25] Speaker A: you're at the
[00:02:25] Speaker B: store.
Just like you're at the retro emporium on Meeker street in Kent, Washington. When an order comes in,
[00:02:31] Speaker A: I have to sort it. Have to. Your
[00:02:33] Speaker B: favorite thing.
Yeah, we have. We have hoodies.
[00:02:36] Speaker A: Oh, hoodies.
[00:02:38] Speaker B: Probably should have the pricing pulled up, huh?
[00:02:40] Speaker A: That's.
[00:02:41] Speaker B: You
[00:02:41] Speaker A: know how you
[00:02:41] Speaker B: get pricing on that? You go to funnybook forensics dot com.
[00:02:44] Speaker A: Oh. And the pricing is there. Go
[00:02:46] Speaker B: to the shop and the pricing is there. Yeah. Because if we don't have what you want there, you can order it and it'll be shipped right to your house for the exact same price. I think. I think
[00:02:55] Speaker A: you
[00:02:55] Speaker B: have to pay shipping, but
[00:02:56] Speaker A: right to your house, though. I mean, if we don't have it, you can get it delivered to you.
You pay the shipping.
[00:03:05] Speaker B: We have
[00:03:05] Speaker A: these right to you.
[00:03:06] Speaker B: Hoodies, 39, 39.99. Hoodies,
[00:03:10] Speaker A: 39.99. And I mean, it is hoodie season.
It is that time of year, my friends. We have
[00:03:17] Speaker B: t shirts for 19.99.
[00:03:19] Speaker A: 19.99 t shirts for you, your friends, your family. They make a great gift at this time of year.
[00:03:26] Speaker B: I think that's all you see. Hats.
[00:03:29] Speaker A: No hats. No
[00:03:29] Speaker B: hats for the show.
[00:03:30] Speaker A: No, no, no hats.
[00:03:33] Speaker B: No. But you can get hats at funnybook forensics slash.com shop.
[00:03:39] Speaker A: Oh, my goodness.
[00:03:40] Speaker B: And you can get a bent bill hat for 22.99 or a pom pom beanie for 19.99.
[00:03:45] Speaker A: You know, both are great choices, but I mean, any. Any way you cut it, you can't go wrong. The. The bent bill beanie is. Is what I'm wearing right now on camera. And the pom pom beanie is what I wear when the work. When the weather gets colder.
[00:04:03] Speaker B: I
[00:04:03] Speaker A: have to wear mine
[00:04:04] Speaker B: on the podcast.
[00:04:05] Speaker A: It's true, I think is mine. I got my hoodie right next to me because sometimes it gets cold in here.
I was wearing it last night, actually.
[00:04:15] Speaker B: Well, I got a. I got an early birthday present.
[00:04:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:04:19] Speaker B: From Jiu Jitsu lawyer Paul. I guess we don't charge Jiu Jitsu lawyer Paul for the commercials because he's our lawyer.
[00:04:25] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:04:26] Speaker B: Yeah, maybe we should now.
[00:04:29] Speaker A: Oh,
[00:04:29] Speaker B: but he gave me this hat, so maybe I should not charge him.
[00:04:33] Speaker A: Well, I mean, I.
Was it a gift to make you not charge him or was it?
[00:04:39] Speaker B: No, no, no, it wasn't. It wasn't payment. But I would say, like is. Is nice because it's. It came in extra small.
So I. I now have a hat that actually fits without falling off.
[00:04:50] Speaker A: It's a tiny noggin.
[00:04:52] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. Is literally an extra small.
See, it says. You can see it right there.
[00:04:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:00] Speaker B: That's not two X. That's Xs. That's not. Not the Legionnaire Xs.
That's. That's. Yeah,
[00:05:08] Speaker A: it's. That's a really good looking cap, though. I like it.
[00:05:11] Speaker B: Finally. Finally got a cap that. That fits. Doesn't fall off in the wind.
I can get these adjustables like my funny book forensics hat here, too. But I have to, you know, know, tamp it down.
I used to when I was a little kid. When I was a little kid. You remember. Remember when I had to have my hats like this
[00:05:28] Speaker A: all pulled all the way to the. Yeah.
[00:05:30] Speaker B: Like this.
You know, people would pull on it and tear the little
[00:05:36] Speaker A: things off
[00:05:37] Speaker B: because I could only use four of them. And it's great.
[00:05:40] Speaker A: That sucks.
[00:05:41] Speaker B: Fantastic.
Yeah.
[00:05:44] Speaker A: So terrible
[00:05:45] Speaker B: childhood drama here on Book forensics. Welcome.
We mentioned we're talking about beefy Batman. I mean, absolute Batman. Number six.
[00:05:54] Speaker A: The beefy. The Batman. Yes. Number six.
[00:05:58] Speaker B: The World Series is happening right now.
[00:06:00] Speaker A: It is. And who's in it, Dan?
[00:06:04] Speaker B: Well, as of right now. Spoiler or days ago.
[00:06:09] Speaker A: Days ago. Yeah,
[00:06:11] Speaker B: it's, it's, it's B split. Seattle Pilots.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:06:16] Speaker B: Are playing the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
[00:06:19] Speaker A: Oh,
[00:06:22] Speaker B: yeah. And the pilots are up 3, 0 right now. Like three wins to zero.
[00:06:27] Speaker A: That's pretty good. Two, two, two teams could make history.
[00:06:31] Speaker B: Yep. And so Seattle Pilots up three games to zero.
You know, it's amazing that six stadium downtown, they probably should re replace that. It's getting really old when the Pilots play. Yeah, Yeah, it was. People didn't like it in the first season in 1969. Like, they really don't like it now.
[00:06:56] Speaker A: Set it on fire.
[00:06:58] Speaker B: Yeah, it's.
It's amazing. The broadcast quality on.
I got to give Fox some credit. The broadcast quality on game one and game two really made the stadium look a lot better than it looks, so.
[00:07:13] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:07:15] Speaker B: Yeah, it does.
[00:07:16] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:07:17] Speaker B: Well, you remember those classic Pilots like Tommy Davis, you know, played here for years.
[00:07:22] Speaker A: Played here for years. Yes.
[00:07:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Diego Segui, he played for the Pilots and the Mariners. Yeah. It's nice to be a two baseball team town.
[00:07:30] Speaker A: It's kind of crazy.
[00:07:32] Speaker B: Yeah. It's two teams in one town. It's amazing. So
[00:07:36] Speaker A: two,
[00:07:36] Speaker B: you know, before people think I'm insane because most people listening aren't going to know what I'm talking about at all.
[00:07:42] Speaker A: True,
[00:07:43] Speaker B: true. We will go ahead and pivot to something we do know about, which is like comics and stuff and things I do know about baseball.
[00:07:53] Speaker A: Yeah, it's true. But
[00:07:54] Speaker B: not as much as a lot of people.
[00:07:56] Speaker A: True.
[00:07:57] Speaker B: Because a lot of people know a lot about baseball.
You know, I'm finally of the age where all my old worthless baseball cards that I thought were going to be worthless forever because they were late 80s, early 90s.
[00:08:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:09] Speaker B: Now I'm being told they actually have some worth sometimes.
[00:08:12] Speaker A: They do. They Do.
[00:08:14] Speaker B: Which is crazy to think about. Don't you remember, like, sitting there as a kid thinking, oh, man, I wish I. I wish I was alive to have a Mickey Mantle rookie card or whatever.
And it was like, you know, 30 years before, and now it's like, now my baseball cards are more than 30 years before.
[00:08:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
It's kind of crazy to think about.
[00:08:41] Speaker A: It's kind of funny, like, with the.
[00:08:44] Speaker B: Oh, that's good.
[00:08:46] Speaker A: That's all right. Selling some of the. Yeah, tasty. Tasty. Selling some of the vintage retro trading cards at the shop and selling some of the. The junk wax and stuff that we have.
The delight in people's eyes when they get to tear open a. A pack of 89 Dundrus or something like that. You know, it's.
[00:09:08] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:09:09] Speaker A: it is. It transports them back to a time when riding their bicycle down to the.
To the little market or something with a. A couple dollars that they had saved up. They could. They could pick up their. Their baseball cards and their candy bars or whatever. But, yeah, you just watch them turn in children again.
And. Yeah, it's. It's great.
[00:09:32] Speaker B: It was an innocent time. I'm. Yeah. Like.
Well, and, you know, we're gonna read this book in a minute or review. We're not gonna read it on the podcast. We've both. I've read this book three times, actually.
[00:09:43] Speaker A: It's a good book, though.
[00:09:44] Speaker B: But we're gonna. We're gonna get into this in a second.
The social commentary that is here, I'm sure we'll talk a lot about. But we get a preview of social commentary because back then it was like, you encourage kids to go out and do things. And now prominent Republican politicians run commercials with parents who abuse their kids and then say it's a great idea to. Well, excuse me. The person in the commercial didn't abuse the person.
The husband did.
[00:10:14] Speaker A: They protected. He just
[00:10:16] Speaker B: left the state with that person and protected them. Yes.
[00:10:18] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:10:20] Speaker B: Yeah, we. We. We are literally in a world where we're not releasing the Epstein files.
You can be a senator and. Or you can be running for the Senate in Texas and let pedophiles out of jail as attorney general, and that still keeps you within 2 percentage points in the polls. You could be running for governor of Ohio and have the estranged mother of the other candidate attacking her in a commercial when she protected the abuser, who was her stepfather,
[00:10:49] Speaker A: who
[00:10:49] Speaker B: abused her brother and her.
And she was put into foster care after that.
[00:10:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:55] Speaker B: And then now is running for governor. You know.
You know that. That should probably be the success story.
[00:11:02] Speaker A: Yeah, that should be the takeaway.
[00:11:03] Speaker B: We should, we probably shouldn't be talking about these other things.
I only say that because this podcast will either release on Halloween or November 1st. Very likely November 1st.
Because I will probably be doing things on October 31st.
[00:11:20] Speaker A: As you should.
[00:11:21] Speaker B: I might. I had bigger plans and they are, they have evaporated. So now I'm. I'm reevaluating rapidly reevaluating the Oct. 31 plans. But the thinking about. Because I was actually going to leave my basement.
[00:11:36] Speaker A: He was going to leave the basement, folks.
[00:11:39] Speaker B: But now. But with that said, go vote, please.
[00:11:45] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:11:45] Speaker B: And if you do have a mail in ballot and can drop it in an actual box, that is an election box. That's not your mailbox. And you have that right and capability. You have that capability and availability to do so. Please do that. Please do not put your, Your, your ballot in the mailbox.
If you have to do that, then yes. Step one, vote.
Step two, get the ballot in any way you can. Step three, preferably drop the ballot in
[00:12:19] Speaker A: one of
[00:12:19] Speaker B: the protected boxes as opposed to.
And, and go vote early.
We. We have a job to do this time, and it's to get the Nazis out of power.
[00:12:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:32] Speaker B: And it's a, It's a sick time when they feel so brazen.
And this isn't pearl clutching. Do I look like I'm pearl clutching? I'm deadly serious. I could give to. Nothing they do makes me clutch my pearls because they are so abhorrent. I become numb to everything they do.
And today Netanyahu lost the coalition in Israel.
Step one. Actually, step two, Lula won in Brazil. Step one, Bolsonaro already has a visa to come here. I wonder why.
[00:13:11] Speaker A: I wonder why.
[00:13:14] Speaker B: You know a little bit about Brazilian politics. How important was it for the Bolsonaros to lose?
[00:13:20] Speaker A: Very.
For the people. Yes.
[00:13:25] Speaker B: As in they were the Nazis that Trump.
[00:13:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:27] Speaker B: They were the authoritarian.
[00:13:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:28] Speaker B: Daddy couldn't run because he had been deposed.
[00:13:32] Speaker A: Yeah. For
[00:13:33] Speaker B: their son and little boy ran. So I feel like Trump gave him them the visas because he sees it as a.
When his son loses in the future, he hopes somebody will do that for him.
[00:13:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
Because they need to, they need to leave the country.
But yeah, it's very important for the people of Brazil to be able to have some sort of leadership that will take care of them because boy, oh boy, the last few years have been a mess.
[00:14:04] Speaker B: And step two, Step two. Internationally, the Likud Party, led by Benjamin Netanyahu got the majority or not the majority, sorry. They got the most seats in Parliament but their coalition, if you understand how parliament works, their right wing coalition got less seats than the left wing coalition, the left center coalition.
So now they are going to be arguing for who gets to be the prime minister there. But another great, you know, great people of Israel have seen through the.
And you know, got rid of their authoritarian prime minister.
[00:14:42] Speaker A: Maybe the world will be changing.
[00:14:45] Speaker B: And I'm hoping while we can't get rid of our authoritarian president yet, that people will take this election very seriously and stop these, they're authoritarians would stop them from, from doing what they're doing.
And yeah, in the words of Abdul Al said, Mr. President, soon you'll call him Sen.
And he won't have to worry about his religion at all. Do you see his latest call out, by the way?
It was fantastic. He said, you can't seem to remember my name and want to call me by my middle name, but when somebody is giving you a jet Muslim, you seem to be able to remember theirs.
[00:15:30] Speaker A: Interesting. So interesting.
[00:15:32] Speaker B: Just calling out the hypocrisy. I did. I start with a little bit of politics today because you know what, my birthday is on October 31st. So this is my birthday podcast and I get to talk about whatever I want to. And the fact of the matter is I'm talking about this because I think it's a really important thing for us to do. So let's go do it.
[00:15:52] Speaker A: It is. And I mean it kind of does play into. Into the book we're going to cover a little bit in a sense. So
[00:15:58] Speaker B: it plays a lot into the book we're going to cover in a second. That's one of the other reasons I'm talking about it because you all will notice, just like my students do eventually, the things I say in class all seem to link together.
[00:16:12] Speaker A: What? Dan, you actually bring things together to make coherent discussion points. I mean, it's crazy. It's very crazy. No, I mean everything that you said I cosigned. So I mean people get out there, do those things because I
[00:16:28] Speaker B: mean, we
[00:16:28] Speaker A: could
[00:16:28] Speaker B: relate this to the book a lot. I just interrupted you.
[00:16:31] Speaker A: No,
[00:16:31] Speaker B: not how much of a joke our leadership is anyway. Go ahead. No,
[00:16:37] Speaker A: I was gonna say, I
[00:16:38] Speaker B: mean.
[00:16:38] Speaker A: No, I was just gonna say, I mean like we do definitely need to go out and do those things because we are, we are living in a time that needs to, we need to make some changes. We need to make some definite moves to better ourselves as, as we are. Because it is, you can see messes Everywhere else. But if you don't stop and take a look around, you don't necessarily sometimes see the mess that is right in front of you. And I know a lot of people do, but there's a lot of people that don't.
That's unfortunate.
[00:17:16] Speaker B: Yep.
I couldn't have said it better.
It's, it's, it's a complete mess and we're slowly working to, to, to clean it up. It's, it's interesting because I don't want to know. I'm not going to go there on this podcast, but I almost went somewhere I probably shouldn't, but I'll just say it's a, it's an interesting landscape and we have a chance to ensure that a group in, in power that's currently in power won't be anymore.
And I, it's, it's. I will say it's heartbreaking to see some of the non maga Republicans just like fade away into obscurity because of these authoritarians. But I have, I want to make it really clear. I have no empathy for the folks that brought this in or continued it
[00:18:16] Speaker A: and don't understand why, why is it affecting me this way.
[00:18:20] Speaker B: But
[00:18:20] Speaker A: the
[00:18:21] Speaker B: folks that are willing to stand up and endorse people from the other party that they've been against their whole life, not the people, but the party.
[00:18:28] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:18:28] Speaker B: those are the folks that are standing up for us in our country. And it's not about party, it's about candidates. It just happens that one party happens to be running the candidates in most cases that are authoritarians.
[00:18:41] Speaker A: I think what you got to really take a look at and think about and as a people, I think, I mean as a nation, we have to remember and, and boy, we're not going to get into politics, are we, Dan? But I mean we have to think
[00:18:54] Speaker B: we are in this.
[00:18:55] Speaker A: We are. We are. We already are. I mean we are Republic. We are ripping it
[00:19:01] Speaker B: up. I'm already ripping
[00:19:02] Speaker A: it up. And it's ours to lose. So if, and, and that, that's been stated numerous times by, by people in history and if we don't do what we need to do, due diligence as the people who have ownership over that, then we will be destined to lose that. And I, I think it really comes down to, I mean everybody wants to use the Constitution for, for whatever they believe it is, but we need to really take a look at framers intent and, and become people who really understand that and really understand you can, you can look at a document, but you need to Understand it.
And I think we need to become a population of citizens who have a better understanding.
We don't need to be people who live in a country. We need to be citizens of that country.
All of us. All of us.
[00:20:07] Speaker B: And you can start by understanding your basic rights in the Constitution.
[00:20:10] Speaker A: Yes. And we all have them, as in the human rights that, that are there for us.
[00:20:17] Speaker B: Like you have the right to speak and you have the right to publish whatever you want,
[00:20:28] Speaker A: have your opinion,
[00:20:30] Speaker B: and you have the right to go to whatever church you want to or not go
[00:20:35] Speaker A: or not go.
[00:20:38] Speaker B: And every one of those folks can still be fighting for those same rights.
[00:20:42] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:20:43] Speaker B: And yeah, I think, you know, that's, I only wish I could be as cool as some of the characters in this book we're about to be.
[00:20:50] Speaker A: Very true.
[00:20:51] Speaker B: I'm not. And that's the, that kind of makes me sad. But
[00:20:56] Speaker A: you can aspire to that.
[00:20:58] Speaker B: I can aspire to that. And we're going to try, but I'm probably not going to make it there. But maybe you can.
[00:21:08] Speaker A: I'm not getting there either.
[00:21:11] Speaker B: But we are an absolute Batman number six.
We've made it to last time. We burnt a whole bunch of money.
[00:21:21] Speaker A: Oh my goodness, did we ever.
[00:21:22] Speaker B: We had a whole bunch of fighting. And CNS has unleashed a new computer program that people put on headsets and it gives out money to murder your friends. And well, not friends, I guess, but murder the, the people in power.
[00:21:37] Speaker A: The people in the
[00:21:38] Speaker B: city really disrupt the city.
[00:21:39] Speaker A: It's, it's not, it's not, I mean, just people in power. It's just like, I mean, everyone's got a price tag. I mean, some people are higher priced, higher items, but even the guy on the corner, he's got a price tag.
[00:21:53] Speaker B: And it's kind of a scary thing.
You call it like a, I don't know, they call it
[00:22:02] Speaker A: gamify. Like they, they, he turned it into gta
[00:22:05] Speaker B: Gamifying Murder. Yeah, yeah.
Oh, gta. Should I go off on that or do we wait till it comes out before I scream about that bullshit?
[00:22:14] Speaker A: You can scream about it if you want to. I mean, it's, people have been waiting 15 years.
[00:22:20] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I think of GTA. I, I, to me, the Punisher and GTA are on the same level.
[00:22:28] Speaker A: They're on the same level.
[00:22:30] Speaker B: It is a stupid game.
It does stupid things, teaches stupid things.
[00:22:39] Speaker A: There's a lot of stupid games out there that do stupid things.
[00:22:42] Speaker B: And I hate that one.
I mean, I hate Goat Simulator too, but that's,
[00:22:48] Speaker A: but you Love it at the same time.
[00:22:50] Speaker B: No, it's dumb.
[00:22:51] Speaker A: Do you love to simulate goats?
[00:22:53] Speaker B: No, it is pointless.
[00:22:55] Speaker A: It's. Well, I mean, you're sitting there and you're. And you're stimulating the goats.
Oh, simulator.
[00:23:04] Speaker B: Completely different game. I'm probably gonna be really unpopular if I start talking about how much I hate the GTA franchise. I don't care.
It is.
Anyway.
[00:23:17] Speaker A: Anyway,
[00:23:19] Speaker B: so can I. Before I continue, can I tell you one of the reasons I hate the GTA franchise?
[00:23:26] Speaker A: Sure. It's your birthday podcast. Go ahead, Dan.
[00:23:30] Speaker B: It actually has nothing to do with the GTA franchise. I have not been in a Walmart. Since when did I go to the Comic Con in North Carolina in rally?
[00:23:41] Speaker A: That
[00:23:41] Speaker B: was before COVID
[00:23:43] Speaker A: Yeah, a long time ago at like
[00:23:44] Speaker B: 2018.
[00:23:46] Speaker A: It's probably. Yeah, like
[00:23:48] Speaker B: around there.
[00:23:49] Speaker A: Eight years ago, nine years ago.
[00:23:50] Speaker B: That's the last time I went to a Walmart because I lost my phone charger at the con and I needed to go get one in the middle of the night. And so.
[00:23:58] Speaker A: And things are still open in the middle of the night.
[00:24:01] Speaker B: The Walmart was open 24 hours and I had to go find somebody and get them to unlock the charger thing. And like it was all a big deal anyway.
I hate Walmart.
But in. After Hurricane Katrina, when I was living in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
[00:24:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:18] Speaker B: When the Walmart opened, I went there to get provisions and guess what they were selling?
[00:24:25] Speaker A: Grand Theft Auto.
[00:24:26] Speaker B: Yes. Big displays of stupid Grand Theft Auto.
And I'm like, what should you be focused on right now?
[00:24:39] Speaker A: Food, batteries, essentials.
[00:24:42] Speaker B: You should probably reset your store for that, right?
[00:24:45] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:24:45] Speaker B: but what do they have out front?
[00:24:48] Speaker A: Gta. Because it's gotta sell. They gotta move those units.
[00:24:51] Speaker B: Nobody had any power.
[00:24:53] Speaker A: They gotta move those units. Dan, if the, if, if they don't move those units, they don't get. They don't get the vig on those units. If they don't get the vig on those units, the game company doesn't get the marker. If the game company doesn't get the marker, they can't make the next game, Dan. That's how it works.
[00:25:11] Speaker B: Have some common sense.
[00:25:14] Speaker A: When it comes to selling to. To selling games and making games, there is no common sense. It's called gta.
And honestly, I'm, I'm. I don't know if you realize this, but most likely the people are they going to buy that don't have the common sense to buy the essentials that they need. I'm sorry, if you play GTA out there, I played it. In the past. But I also understand that you need essential. You know, if you play gta, Dan, you might know that you do need to pick up items as you're playing the game. So it is kind of like a simulator that teaches you skills that are necessary for survival in a sense. I mean, you do have to pick up things and get cars and other stuff like that. So, I mean, it is actually.
I'm going to turn this whole entire thing around because I'm actually for it now
[00:26:03] Speaker B: again. Well, you can play all the GT GTA you want. There is not a world where I will play gta.
[00:26:09] Speaker A: Would you play the Simpsons?
The. The. The Simpsons game? That's the. Where Bart. Where Homer's driving the car around looking for the. The. The Buzz Cola
[00:26:22] Speaker B: maybe. I don't know.
[00:26:23] Speaker A: It's GTA with the Simpsons, Dan.
[00:26:25] Speaker B: I don't
[00:26:26] Speaker A: really
[00:26:26] Speaker B: play games. So you're the. The trap here is you're the gamer and I'm not. So I'm about as sophisticated as playing sib. So.
Oh, I played Mario Party
[00:26:37] Speaker A: Save. It's just GTA without the cars.
It's resource management, man.
[00:26:45] Speaker B: It's Mario Party. Some random. That. That game is
[00:26:49] Speaker A: it. It. It's wild and fun. It gets crazy.
[00:26:52] Speaker B: I like it. I like it. It's fun.
[00:26:54] Speaker A: You don't know what to do and you're trying to get the stars and everybody's going for it. Then it flips around and then you're like, oh, man, I'm going the wrong direction. And that's it.
[00:27:03] Speaker B: You can. You can come here. Not Mario Kart. Mario Party.
[00:27:06] Speaker A: That's what I'm saying. You gotta like, you're trying to get the stars.
[00:27:10] Speaker B: Oh, I own the Mario Party pinball mini game.
That's like playing some old Atari pinball right there.
The. The youngins in the house were baffled by the fact that they weren't paying attention to me. They were watching the computer because we had three people, so there was one computer player, right? They're watching the computer player. Everybody's ignoring me. I like, doubled everybody's pinball score.
[00:27:30] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:27:31] Speaker B: Yeah. I like six pinballs at the time. Going. Going everywhere. Yeah, it's fantastic.
Anyway. Oh, Batman comic.
[00:27:43] Speaker A: Batman number six.
[00:27:46] Speaker B: Ah, Chandler Simpson up.
Oh, wait, we're not watching baseball right now.
[00:27:53] Speaker A: What. What are. What are they. What are the pilots doing right now?
[00:27:57] Speaker B: Zero to zero.
[00:27:58] Speaker A: Oh, hey. That's the kind of score we like to start with.
[00:28:01] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. It's a good. Good timing, good time.
Sounds like a. Sounds like a Pilot score a lot of no runs.
[00:28:10] Speaker A: Excellent.
[00:28:11] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, in the city of Seattle, you have a lot of teams that don't score many runs.
It's good times.
All right.
[00:28:19] Speaker A: Why do you guys keep calling? Why do you guys keep talking about the Seattle Pilots? They're not. They're. They're not in the series, guys.
[00:28:26] Speaker B: Yeah, they are.
[00:28:27] Speaker A: I know. I know they are. You know they are.
A few select folks out there might know they are.
[00:28:33] Speaker B: Yeah, they play in six stadium. You should go to Seattle and try to find it.
[00:28:38] Speaker A: I think it's a Home Depot now.
[00:28:41] Speaker B: No, no, no, wait. They plan a Home Depot now.
[00:28:45] Speaker A: I think the stadium is at Home Depot.
Yeah, Hot dogs there.
[00:28:51] Speaker B: Ah, at a Home Depot. You can get hot dogs at Home Depot.
[00:28:54] Speaker A: Yeah, outside.
[00:28:56] Speaker B: Really?
[00:28:56] Speaker A: Yeah, there's a guy that sells them outside The. In the. In. Out of his.
[00:29:00] Speaker B: No, I'm not a big fan of food trucks.
[00:29:01] Speaker A: It's not a food truck, Dan.
[00:29:04] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:29:04] Speaker A: it's a converted Outback.
[00:29:06] Speaker B: That's like a food truck.
Oh, well, anyway, I ate out food. I don't care. Anyway.
Beefy Batman number six.
[00:29:16] Speaker A: Beefy Batman number six.
[00:29:18] Speaker B: Do you know who? Do you know who?
I was. I was checking something, by the way.
[00:29:22] Speaker A: Oh, yeah? What were you checking?
[00:29:24] Speaker B: And remember how Tom King won the Eisner two years in a row?
[00:29:28] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:29:29] Speaker B: And James Tinian won the Eisner three years in a row after that.
[00:29:32] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:29:34] Speaker B: At Department of Truth.
A good book.
But they obviously did a lot of other things, too.
[00:29:42] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:29:42] Speaker B: I was just checking into that. I was checking into. I was checking into our claims.
It's interesting because this book.
[00:29:50] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:29:51] Speaker B: not this book, but this book got a single. We wanted the Eisner's for best single issue.
[00:29:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:29:58] Speaker B: But it wasn't one Scott Snyder wrote.
[00:30:01] Speaker A: Interesting.
[00:30:01] Speaker B: It was the annual.
[00:30:02] Speaker A: Oh,
[00:30:05] Speaker B: and I was like, these. These DC guys can't catch a break, can they?
[00:30:09] Speaker A: No.
[00:30:10] Speaker B: Scott Snyder can't catch a break.
Joshua Williamson can't catch a break. I'm, like, as prolific as these two are, you know, not being up there for Eisner's is.
And then outselling everybody. Right. And I realized, like, I realized that, like, being a Transformers movie, being Michael Bay doesn't mean you're good.
Right. Just because you do lots of things doesn't necessarily mean you're good.
[00:30:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:30:43] Speaker B: But these folks have the sales numbers and things to also back up what they're doing.
[00:30:48] Speaker A: Right.
[00:30:48] Speaker B: And I'd mentioned a lot of times I'm not necessarily a big fan of Scott Snyder's previous work.
Just Because I don't get it.
Just like, you know, some things that other people do I don't necessarily get or it doesn't hit me.
But that's. I don't know, I kind of think that, I mean that. Is it Tinian or Tinian
[00:31:10] Speaker A: this? Tinian.
[00:31:11] Speaker B: Yeah, but I probably said it wrong. Probably picked it wrong. But great, great writer, very prolific as well.
But it's. It's just interesting how things are chosen. I guess I'll just say that
[00:31:25] Speaker A: it is interesting. You never know.
Never know.
[00:31:31] Speaker B: But when somebody gets it two years in a row and then somebody gets it three years in a row, I mean that's, You know,
[00:31:43] Speaker A: something.
[00:31:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I know.
Well, anyway, we are flipping back and we left off and everybody was about to murder
[00:31:53] Speaker A: the
[00:31:53] Speaker B: mayor and the deputy mayor.
And if you're paying attention to the mayor and the deputy mayor, they're pretty well known folks.
[00:32:00] Speaker A: Just a little bit.
[00:32:02] Speaker B: Yeah. One James Gordon and one Martha. Almost called her Martha Kent. Which would not be correct.
[00:32:09] Speaker A: No, not correct. Why would you say that name?
[00:32:12] Speaker B: Well, because generally when I think about the Marthas in DC comics, I think about the one that's alive versus the one that's dead.
[00:32:18] Speaker A: She's not dead in this book, Dan.
[00:32:20] Speaker B: She's not dead.
[00:32:21] Speaker A: Very alive.
[00:32:23] Speaker B: Martha Wayne, very alive and is the deputy mayor.
But we don't open with this. We open with.
We open with Beefy Batman and I almost called him Killer Croc.
He's not.
[00:32:40] Speaker A: He's not.
[00:32:41] Speaker B: We just got Croc's gym.
[00:32:43] Speaker A: He's just. Yeah, guy with the gym.
[00:32:46] Speaker B: They're talking about what they're going to do and he lets him know he's Batman and he needs his help.
[00:32:54] Speaker A: I'm petty
[00:32:57] Speaker B: because I'm Batman.
You can tell with all the scars and all the bad. He still has all the band aids everywhere too from last time.
[00:33:04] Speaker A: Yeah, he's all beat up
[00:33:09] Speaker B: and this. Obviously we were talking, we were bemoaning last week when we're reading Jonah Hex about how everything wraps into a graphic novel length.
And in these single issue books we know that's going to happen. So you're going to get a five or six issue story, Right. Sometimes you get a five issue story with a one shot. Sometimes you'll get sick.
Every once in a while you get two one shots and four in the middle or something like that, you know. But usually,
[00:33:37] Speaker A: usually there's something in there that kind of brings it, binds it. Yeah,
[00:33:42] Speaker B: Snider's got it down with how he organized this one.
[00:33:46] Speaker A: Oh yeah.
[00:33:46] Speaker B: Snider and Jagodo. Right. I'll give them both credit on this. But you're.
You're really looking at something that wraps well. And we're telling two stories that. We're telling, like three stories at the same time. But, I mean, the main two stories are we're telling the story of Batman now and the city now. Right. Like, what. What is going on? And we're telling the past story of when his father's murdered. And, you know, he.
He comes of age, so to speak, when he's not ready to.
[00:34:17] Speaker A: Right.
[00:34:18] Speaker B: And how he. You know, how he gets to here and this.
So we go from this, like, really dark art on the first page with the paneling. Travis, if you're listening.
Both Travis's. Actually,
[00:34:34] Speaker A: both Travis's. Travis.
[00:34:36] Speaker B: We go from this very square panel. And then we don't get a lot of these in this book. And this is why it's powerful. So we don't get a lot of splashes in these books.
We get the splash of the kids.
[00:34:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:48] Speaker B: And we've got Frank Martin on colors.
Frank, this is fantastic.
How you turn this into an old photograph compared to this.
Sorry, my lights aren't showing on my book really well. But it's. And we get the whole story of all the kids. They were, you know, they were playing cards in the other books, and we've seen them. But we get the story of them all being together.
And now we know. Right.
And it's driving home that point. This is a very different Bat universe. Right.
This is an us kids against them universe, not a Bruce Wayne against the other kids in Gotham.
[00:35:38] Speaker A: Right.
[00:35:39] Speaker B: At least for now.
I don't know what happens. You know, you've been through issue eight or you've been further than me. I think I've been through issue eight.
[00:35:48] Speaker A: I haven't gotten to a point where anything turns, but
[00:35:52] Speaker B: I'm sure something will turn at some point. But right now,
[00:35:55] Speaker A: don't jinx it. Everything's fine.
[00:36:00] Speaker B: Right now we're really finding out about
[00:36:03] Speaker A: his friends,
[00:36:03] Speaker B: these kids growing up together, having these experiences with each other.
And now it's one of them against the world. And it looks like it's going to be a lot of them against the world. And they've already been helping Bruce. They didn't necessarily know he was Batman.
[00:36:17] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:36:18] Speaker B: right. But they've been helping him out.
We get the flashback back to.
We get the flashback back to.
Or we get a dream sequence. Actually, it looks like a flashback.
And then Bruce sees his mom get shot in the dream after they're all talking.
[00:36:41] Speaker A: Right.
[00:36:42] Speaker B: And he just has to go out as a little boy after the trial, I presume. Right. And just lay there with his mom. And these are obviously the moments you're never going to get in a Batman book, because it can happen that way.
[00:36:53] Speaker A: Right.
[00:36:55] Speaker B: And it's interesting because, you know, the formulation, the reasoning for these stories was Darkseid takes away. Right. This is the alternate universe. Everything that made the superheroes into the superheroes they were supposedly. Right.
And so in this universe, he choses to take away his dad.
[00:37:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:19] Speaker B: And his money.
And it's interesting. So step one for thinking about politics of today, because this is why we brought up politics. Besides it being election time.
The whole notion that the oligarchs and the authoritarians think that taking away all of your money is going to make the foundational changes in your character.
[00:37:45] Speaker A: Only the people. Only to the people who. Who rely on it.
[00:37:50] Speaker B: Right.
[00:37:50] Speaker A: I mean. I
[00:37:51] Speaker B: mean, is having money great?
Yes.
[00:37:55] Speaker A: I mean, in
[00:37:55] Speaker B: fact, I encourage you to do things to make more money. And I don't mean, like, steal from people, but like, if you can invest your money wisely or slowly invest it, or as you're working, be smart with it and it grows over time and all those things, you should do that because I
[00:38:13] Speaker A: will do things with it.
[00:38:15] Speaker B: Being comfortable with money better than not being comfortable with money. I am not rich, but, boy, am I a lot more comfortable than I used to be. Huh, Greg?
[00:38:24] Speaker A: Very true.
[00:38:26] Speaker B: And that is awesome. Right. Like, it's a great feeling.
But the whole notion that taking away the money actually in this case makes him keeping a parent and taking away the money in a lot of ways makes him a better human.
[00:38:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:52] Speaker B: Like, he still has that side drive, that solo side drive to go be Batman, drive himself, etc.
But he doesn't have to venture off into the wilderness. He doesn't have to leave the city. He doesn't have to retreat to his island of a home right in the woods.
He has. He's forced to interact with others.
[00:39:12] Speaker A: Yeah. And grow himself as a person
[00:39:16] Speaker B: and have relationships. Which other Batman, Skinny Batman, is not known for having great relationships.
[00:39:25] Speaker A: No, not so much.
[00:39:26] Speaker B: Outside of abusing his minor partners.
[00:39:30] Speaker A: What? Never? Never. I
[00:39:32] Speaker B: mean, sexual abuse.
[00:39:33] Speaker A: No.
[00:39:33] Speaker B: But, like, he relies heavily on those relationships because that's all he's got. Right.
[00:39:39] Speaker A: And it uses them as, like, I mean, like, it was illustrated very well in the Batman book that you don't like. But he used them as soldiers, you know?
[00:39:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:39:51] Speaker A: Saw them as an end to a means.
Like, we are Fighting a fight you are going to. You're gonna go do these things, and either some of them died or some of them burned out. That's not the. You know, they. They wanted to do that thing, but not at that.
At that cost.
[00:40:10] Speaker B: And in this case, he's giving his friends hints at what he does until he finally has to share with Wayland what he does. Right.
[00:40:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:40:17] Speaker B: But he's not. He's protecting his friends from himself.
And he's using those connections to make the city better and to improve people's lives. And that's where the Batmans, you know, come together. Right. Like both. You know, they both. It's a slightly different mission, but both have the mission of making Gotham a better place.
[00:40:39] Speaker A: Right.
[00:40:40] Speaker B: Right.
But it becomes a very different thing when you are. When your singular motivation is making a place better based on the relationships you have and the people around you versus you thinking about how to make things better
[00:40:55] Speaker A: based on what you think people need, not knowing exactly what they need.
[00:41:01] Speaker B: Yeah. Because
[00:41:02] Speaker A: you believe this to be right, and then you go and do things based off of what your belief is.
[00:41:08] Speaker B: Yeah. It's kind of like when Sydney Hyde Smith, who's running for Senate in Mississippi, goes and says things like, well, I'm sorry the price of beef is high, but you can eat other proteins.
That's not coming from a place of building your fellow people up and identifying with their concerns.
[00:41:34] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:41:36] Speaker B: That's coming from a place of arrogance.
[00:41:41] Speaker A: It's
[00:41:41] Speaker B: like when you are the president and you say, well, yeah, the price of gas is high and you should, you know, you should just deal with that. But these oil companies are making more money than they ever have, and their stocks are going up under my presidency, which was literally said this week.
[00:41:58] Speaker A: And it's like, you don't see the foul. The. The. The. The. The. The fallacy in that or the, The. The.
The mixed messaging
[00:42:08] Speaker B: and you're not seeing the value of people.
[00:42:10] Speaker A: Yeah, the. The
[00:42:12] Speaker B: that's impacting
[00:42:13] Speaker A: the people need to buy the gas to go to the jobs that also help other parts of the economy. And therefore, the cost is going. The cost going up raises the. The intake or the profits of those gas companies. But.
And that's a good thing. Sure.
Yeah.
[00:42:31] Speaker B: It's almost like you raise the price of gas and think that's a great thing when those companies are making more money and then all the oligarchs require everybo to return to the office. You can spend money on gas, Right.
[00:42:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:41] Speaker B: It's almost like it all works together. It's Almost like there's no empathy for the actual individuals that are doing those things. But this Batman, at least for now, because I don't know what happens later, but at least this Batman, for now has empathy for the people in the community that he lives in.
[00:42:57] Speaker A: I have a feeling this Batman is not going to throw a pizza party for his friends. If they do a good job,
[00:43:03] Speaker B: I. Well, maybe he will,
[00:43:05] Speaker A: but he'll do it with love and for the right reasons. As opposed to if everybody.
We're not gonna. We can't do it for everybody, but some people are gonna get a pizza party.
[00:43:16] Speaker B: He'll throw a pizza party because he wants to hang out with his friends.
[00:43:19] Speaker A: Yeah, I know, I know.
[00:43:20] Speaker B: That's the difference. Yeah, yeah. As you were pointing. That's what you were pointing out.
[00:43:24] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:43:26] Speaker B: Well, we flipped the page and now we get into the.
The AI system or whatever's happening with these masks.
[00:43:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:34] Speaker B: Martha grabs one and puts it on to try to figure out what's happening, like why everybody's looking at them like they're gonna murder them and. Because
[00:43:42] Speaker A: they are.
[00:43:44] Speaker B: And she says, start earning. Robbery, 50K, arson, 100K, assault, 150K, murder, 250K. Mayor Gordon, $1 million.
I think they should go for more than a million. I mean, a million is not very much.
[00:43:58] Speaker A: I mean, you got. Okay, so. So
[00:44:01] Speaker B: in this day and age, a million for a murder. Not that
[00:44:03] Speaker A: you're sinus, you've
[00:44:05] Speaker B: got 5 million.
[00:44:06] Speaker A: Dan, you're sinos. You got a. You got a whole bunch of masks. You put all this tech out there. You put guns drops everywhere.
You got, you got all these people out there running and gunning all over the city and stuff like that. You. You have. And, and Batman has just burned a ton of money.
[00:44:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:25] Speaker A: He doesn't have $5 million to spend on a mayor. He's got a million dollars. Plus he's gotta still like spend that, you know, 250k for.
For, you know, like just a straight up murder or 50k for a robbery, you know, or 100k for an arson. So he's got. He's gotta break down those small potatoes to get to that big rock, man.
[00:44:49] Speaker B: I think even, even better though, I think you're
[00:44:52] Speaker A: right. He's pretty cheap.
[00:44:54] Speaker B: I think he's just cheap. I think he doesn't understand the people in the city, like what we're talking about. Right. Like, that's part of the issue. His assumption is like these oligarchs that you can just buy people off. Right,
[00:45:05] Speaker A: right.
[00:45:05] Speaker B: His assumption Is you can go to a rally and say if I win, every person's gonna get $5,000 and that you're gonna go ahead and vote for him because he's gonna hand out money. You can go to a rally and say all the people at Camp Lagoon are going to actually get their settlement, but only if I win.
See, it's Lejeune, right? Not Lagoon, but yes.
Yeah. You, you, you're gonna get your settlements if I win. Right.
But because he is. Has lived in this bubble forever where, you know, starting a business means your dad gives you a million dollars in the 70s to start your business.
[00:45:46] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:45:48] Speaker B: Oh, just a gift of a million dollars. That's all I had to get started.
[00:45:51] Speaker A: Just. You
[00:45:52] Speaker B: have no clue what other people experience.
And then you do like this,
[00:45:58] Speaker A: right.
[00:45:58] Speaker B: And think that this will work because it is kind of working. Like there's a response to it.
And, and just like in society here, the young men are responding to it.
You know, statistically, more young men voted for Trump as a weird group. I mean, it's old people and young men.
[00:46:22] Speaker A: Young men. Yeah.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: And that was the initial response because, hey, you're looking for somebody to do something.
Right?
People in our society were looking for something to do something. The Democratic Party was stale. They do nothing. They give you health insurance, kind of, but don't really.
They do things half ass. We never get the railroads we're supposed to get. We don't get the things that we are supposed to get. Right.
That we should get as a human. Right.
And people are mad and they respond to this initially.
But the problem is, if you don't understand these people because you're not part of them, you're not going to be able to sustain this.
[00:47:08] Speaker A: Nah.
Well, because you
[00:47:11] Speaker B: just
[00:47:11] Speaker A: think people, you start giving people $50,000 or 250k, then their insurance costs go up. Then that, that, that $50,000 doesn't mean anything. That, that 25K or that, that 250K that, I mean, that's. That they're, that's not going to cover their gas expenses.
[00:47:33] Speaker B: Greg, will you stop explaining basic economics? Like when inflation is up and then you inflate the economy by giving a bunch of money into it. If you give everybody $5,000 more dollars, that $5,000 isn't worth as much. Is that what you're saying?
[00:47:47] Speaker A: That's what I'm saying. Because there's a lot of people out there that don't understand that. Dan.
[00:47:51] Speaker B: Man, that's crazy.
[00:47:53] Speaker A: I know, it's wild.
[00:47:56] Speaker B: If you add a bunch if you inject a bunch of currency into the economy that's not backed by anything, becomes worthless.
[00:48:03] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:48:04] Speaker B: well, here's what they will understand.
[00:48:06] Speaker A: What's that?
[00:48:06] Speaker B: They should track the price of Bitcoin.
See how that worked out.
Unless you were uber rich and got a bunch at the beginning.
[00:48:20] Speaker A: Like
[00:48:21] Speaker B: a pyramid scheme.
[00:48:24] Speaker A: Pyramid scheme, you said.
[00:48:26] Speaker B: Kind of.
Anyway.
So anyway.
Emergency alert.
That's.
Who's on the. Oh, that's Alfred's daughter. Right.
On the train. Tram. Train,
[00:48:47] Speaker A: yeah.
[00:48:47] Speaker B: Light rail. What do we call these things?
[00:48:49] Speaker A: I don't know.
Elevated train?
[00:48:51] Speaker B: Light rail.
[00:48:52] Speaker A: It's an elevated train.
[00:48:54] Speaker B: Elevated train. I love it. It's. We're in Chicago.
[00:48:57] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:48:58] Speaker B: Isn't that where Superman. Well, anyway, so he's trying to talk to Julie on the phone. She gets the alert that she's supposed to be home. She gets grabbed by some of these mask guys.
And.
And we get to. I'm already laughing at the next page because we're about to get to my.
[00:49:20] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:49:26] Speaker B: I'll get it out.
[00:49:30] Speaker A: I gotta get the big book out.
[00:49:32] Speaker B: How to get it out.
All right, where is it?
[00:49:36] Speaker A: Why are my dogs. Where is it?
[00:49:38] Speaker B: There it is. It's in the middle. These are out of order. These should be in order.
[00:49:42] Speaker A: Oh, no.
[00:49:43] Speaker B: Oh, no. Okay, so we get descript. Have fun translating this episode. So we find out Waylon's mad.
Or now. Now Ozzy's helping him, right?
[00:50:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so.
[00:50:04] Speaker B: Yeah. And he's flying him in a plane. He's like, you're a Batman. And you didn't think maybe this was something you should mention?
He was like, I was trying to protect you. All of you. He said, well, it out of the bag now. Wayland wants to punch you. Harvey wants to arrest you. Eddie says, he guessed it weeks ago, the jackass.
Who knows what Selena will. Actually, she'll probably think it's hot.
But me personally, I find it absolutely Batman like, there.
Eddie's Riddler said, black masks entry entire network. So they're already working together.
And I love this.
And then Ozzy's like, bruce, you do this, you're on your own. I barely have enough fucking fuel to make it back to Gotham. I can't stick around to save you.
And genuinely concerned about his friend. Right? And this is great. And he says, I'm not asking you or anyone else.
So you still got that streak of his own. But he. Yeah, but he's full of. Because he just asked them to help him.
[00:51:07] Speaker A: Yeah, they asked him to. He asked him to help him, but he doesn't Want that. He doesn't want them to put themselves in any more jeopardy.
[00:51:13] Speaker B: And then we get.
[00:51:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
Oh, yeah, I love it.
It's. You gotta love the homage, right?
[00:51:27] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, Victor Goda, you're fantastic.
[00:51:35] Speaker A: I. We've
[00:51:35] Speaker B: talked about some of the pieces that came from Dark Knight in this book. Right. In addition to just the normal Batman pieces. But there are a lot of pieces here, right? The. The Party Animals and the Mutants. Very similar.
[00:51:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:51:48] Speaker B: In their approach. There's. There's a lot here from Dark Knight Returns, but it's just done in a different way.
Right. In this case, Batman's not becoming a Nazi. He's becoming.
Yeah. I mean, we're ty. Putting my book back. This is where we're talking about the differences, Right. You know, it's.
This is a day in time where.
And let, let's.
Let me give Frank Miller, like, every possible.
Like, you know, we're supposed to look at people and assume positive intent for what they're doing. Right?
So let me give Frank Miller every possible positive that we could get out of Dark Knight Returns.
And that is the fact he lived in a scary place.
The east coast cities were scary.
He dreamt of a reason to. He dreamt up a reason in a story to improve that place.
And he felt like the only way to improve that face was to kind of have anarchy or overthrow the government or have pockets of. Because government wasn't solving the problems. Right.
And it's the same feeling we were describing earlier with people in our society now. Right. They don't think that the people in government did anything but care about themselves. Right. Because, let's face it, prominent Democrats on the other side in the past who are now gone and not in their positions anymore, thank God.
Right.
And I don't want to say their name because I don't want their spouses to be attacked in their house again. But like I are. Are making investment trades and enriching themselves, just like the president did.
But not just like. Right, because the President took it and said, oh, I'm going to do it to 100 times scale. Right.
I mean, but they can do it, so I'm going to be able to get away with this too.
Right? We didn't put a stop to this bullshit and people were disenfranchised. So what do they do? They elect an authoritarian oligarch, right?
What do they do? What do you do?
And because you had nowhere good to go, right?
[00:53:58] Speaker A: What
[00:53:59] Speaker B: do you do? Just keep voting for the same thing. That's not giving you the Roads, not fixing the infrastructure. That's not giving you health care. Right. What do you do? Do you just keep voting for the same thing?
[00:54:09] Speaker A: You people go for something different and then they find out that it's not exactly what they want,
[00:54:18] Speaker B: and then that other thing gets in power for 30 years and they do nothing. And then they. They do nothing on steroids except enrich themselves. Right.
And why not?
I mean, you make it to the top in that environment, why not? Right. You're just modeling what everybody else did, I think, you know, we've.
And this book came out, you know, two years before right now, but obviously came out in this time. Right?
[00:54:50] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:54:51] Speaker B: we are modeling, you know, the book is modeling a response to those oligarchs. Right. And here we go.
And here, you know, the idea is just of Sionis is to just tear down these institutions.
You know, the whole argument Sionis makes in the previous books is these are ineffective.
We just go in here and cause chaos in these cities and do. Then do nothing. Right. Let it go.
[00:55:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:55:20] Speaker B: And it's almost like if you march a bunch of people in brown shirts or march a bunch of people in tactical gear with masks on around a city and start causing chaos,
[00:55:35] Speaker A: H.
[00:55:36] Speaker B: It's like you need big, beefy Batman to go beat the. Out of them.
[00:55:44] Speaker A: Maybe so. Maybe so.
[00:55:47] Speaker B: Man, issue six. I knew this was going to be rough.
I hope you all are enjoying this analysis though, because, look, when we say we analyze the books and we critique them, we talk about them and we relate them to what's going on, this is what we do.
[00:56:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:56:04] Speaker B: And you cannot avoid it with this storyline.
[00:56:09] Speaker A: Yeah. It's pretty. I mean, it's. It's. It's pretty head on.
[00:56:13] Speaker B: And then. And the critique works on both sides. Right. You know, one of the reasons south park works is because they critique both sides.
It just happens right now in more recent episodes of south park, it's easier to critique the oligarch. You know, now billionaire who bankrupted himself a billion times, who happens to sit in the presidency and enrich himself. It was easier to critique him right now. Right, but they have critiques.
[00:56:42] Speaker A: They've critiqued everything.
They've. They've critiqued and parodied everything.
And
[00:56:49] Speaker B: there's some critiques here of the ineffectiveness of the Gotham government. Right?
[00:56:52] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:56:53] Speaker B: Inability to serve their people and.
But now we get to the fights.
[00:56:59] Speaker A: The fights.
[00:57:01] Speaker B: Yeah. So
[00:57:03] Speaker A: yacht fight.
[00:57:04] Speaker B: Team Sionis is out on a boat. Right.
And Batman knows this because he's done his surveillance. Remember, he had all his surveillance in the previous issue, and he's out there.
We had some more square paneling, and I love it.
We progress it. He jumps onto the boat. He grabs weird squid head guy.
He picks up little baby guy.
He starts kicking them. He just kicks the baby. Which is.
Yeah. Is a callback to one of Greg's favorite shows.
[00:57:37] Speaker A: Hunt off the boat into the water.
[00:57:43] Speaker B: And though another
[00:57:49] Speaker A: squid head.
[00:57:50] Speaker B: Yeah. One of the party animals jumps off the boat and was like, yeah, I don't want any of this.
We don't want it.
And God, they are so good at this.
This book is so good.
It is so good. So you have all that happening.
[00:58:11] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:58:12] Speaker B: And then it's this, like, tender moment of little baby Brucie, like, toddling around with his mom. Yeah.
And you just look at this, and you're like, how did you get from here to there?
[00:58:27] Speaker A: They do a good job at bringing it back and getting you back into this. This portion of the story where Bruce is having that moment with his mom, and she's walking him through all of his. His good times, if you will, and memories and stuff.
[00:58:44] Speaker B: And so is Darkseid's real message here is, it's not that you got to keep your mom.
It's not that I took away your money, but what I did is put billionaire oligarchs in charge.
What I did is leave you with ineffective, liberal government.
[00:59:03] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:59:05] Speaker B: And now you. You have to pick this up like, is dark side's real punishment that he just put Bruce Wayne in today's society?
[00:59:14] Speaker A: I don't know,
[00:59:16] Speaker B: because it seems that way.
Well, we flip the page. And we don't have to flip the page because it's on a cross page, but we go back to Martha and Jim Gordon, and Martha's like, you saw Batman's feed. All Black Mask wants in Gotham is chaos. He's using us. Maybe so his cronies can profit or get control or who knows? Oh, we know, Martha. It's the first two.
But all this is a damn game to him. And the only way we win is by not playing.
You know, it's fascinating.
Do you know who the single biggest donor of the packs in the Texas Senate race is right now?
[01:00:12] Speaker A: Who's that?
[01:00:15] Speaker B: I'll give you one guess.
Come on, you can get this on.
[01:00:20] Speaker A: I don't know.
[01:00:21] Speaker B: The richest human in the world
[01:00:24] Speaker A: be the. The. The guy who wants to go to Mars.
[01:00:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
Why does Elon Musk give a. About a single Senate race?
[01:00:37] Speaker A: You know, there could be a number of things
[01:00:42] Speaker B: because he wants to do What Martha just said, It's just a big game to him.
[01:00:50] Speaker A: Just a big game?
Yeah.
[01:00:52] Speaker B: When you have a trillion dollars, what's left but to just toy with people.
[01:00:57] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:00:59] Speaker B: he can give his Nazi salutes and toy with people.
[01:01:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Take away his money.
[01:01:07] Speaker B: I mean, or how about. How about idea ideas from Dan? Unpopular ideas from Dan. How about you uncap the Social Security tax?
[01:01:20] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:01:22] Speaker B: you should have to pay the Social Security tax on every dollar you make.
[01:01:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:01:30] Speaker B: That way it doesn't go away.
Also, people, for God's sake, start taking your Social Security at 62.
Yeah. They hang everything out there like you're going to get more later, but you might die.
[01:01:43] Speaker A: You're not going to start
[01:01:44] Speaker B: taking it when you get it.
Bad advice from Dan.
[01:01:49] Speaker A: It's bad advice from Dad. I mean, my dad didn't get it. So,
[01:01:54] Speaker B: yeah, I mean, now people wait and it's like, anyway, value of money over time.
So Martha is talking to everybody and the response is, yeah, well, maybe that's all that's left these days. A game most of us never get to play unless we get lucky. And you should have been quicker, folks, because the attitude here is the young men with the guns is we don't have money. The only way we can get it is through luck. Maybe we'll get a lottery ticket or something like that. Let's spend all that money when the lotto goes up to a billion dollars and just pray because that's all we're left with because that's all the hope that people have given.
Fired up, Greg?
[01:02:46] Speaker A: No, he's fired up.
[01:02:48] Speaker B: But it's the book.
[01:02:49] Speaker A: It's the book.
[01:02:50] Speaker B: Are we making. Do you think we're making people sad?
[01:02:52] Speaker A: I don't know. Maybe. I mean, a little bit. But I hope
[01:02:55] Speaker B: not because it's a story.
[01:02:57] Speaker A: This is gonna be. This is gonna be the one. The one episode. Everyone's like, ah, you had me. And then Dan got sad on his birthday. I'm not sad at
[01:03:07] Speaker B: all, actually.
[01:03:07] Speaker A: Oh, no, he got two. He. He got too into everything.
[01:03:12] Speaker B: I am so happy that Scott Snyder and Nick Dragoda put together a piece of art that illustrates these feelings that I have inside. Because they have the number one selling book in the all of comics. Because it wasn't just me that they.
[01:03:27] Speaker A: Other people.
[01:03:28] Speaker B: It wasn't
[01:03:28] Speaker A: just other people
[01:03:29] Speaker B: impacted. They impacted a lot of people with this story.
And you
[01:03:33] Speaker A: think about. Yeah,
[01:03:35] Speaker B: you construct stories.
Well, you're the author, right? And I'm here talking. But there's. You construct stories for you yourself.
You construct stories for Other people.
I mean, those are pretty much your options. It's usually a combination of both. Right,
[01:03:54] Speaker A: right.
[01:03:56] Speaker B: And, you know, if you're a shill, you construct stories to just try to sell them or push them off on people. But those are the hardest stories to write, right?
[01:04:07] Speaker A: Yeah, and those are the hardest stories to sell because people, they can see through it, you know,
[01:04:13] Speaker B: like, you've had to write things you didn't want to write before, right?
[01:04:16] Speaker A: Yeah. And, like, it's interesting, though, but. Yes, yes, those are, those are difficult in a sense. I mean, there's some stuff that I'm like, I didn't. I don't know. It's 50, 50 in some stuff because I, I might have liked the. I might have liked certain parts of it. So I was like, all right.
But, yeah, there's some that I was like, no. No connection. Just like, all right.
But then when you're. I mean, when you're writing for something that you, you thoroughly want to just get out, it's so easy. It just, it just gets out.
Case in point, like, I mean, sitting at the, at the airport on a layover coming back from the east coast last week, I just. I sat down and just pages, just the mental block that had been there for a year, just, boom, gone. And I was just, Just cooking, just, you know, just pages. And I was like, oh, I gotta stop because I gotta get on a plane.
[01:05:22] Speaker B: Yep.
[01:05:23] Speaker A: You know,
[01:05:26] Speaker B: and, you know, it's. It's, it's funny too, because, you know, a lot of part of me, and I'm gonna flip to the next page right here.
Part of me is like, this is where this story hits me. Right. Part of me is like, we've talked about this. Right? Why don't I just move to, like, Portugal or Spain or somewhere?
[01:05:46] Speaker A: I
[01:05:46] Speaker B: know,
[01:05:47] Speaker A: yeah, we've talked about it.
[01:05:48] Speaker B: And, you know, take the money that I do have, move there where I can. My money goes a little bit further.
Be in a culture that is at least currently better for me and my community.
And, man, Scott Snyder makes me feel guilty for thinking about that.
I hate Alfred so much in this book. And you don't mind Alfred. I hate Alfred. Do you notice he becomes not the narrator in this one, by the way.
[01:06:19] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah. He, He. He loses his narration
[01:06:22] Speaker B: because he loses his power.
[01:06:24] Speaker A: Well, yeah, he loses his power. And I think because Batman, I, I, the story doesn't need him to narrate at this point,
[01:06:33] Speaker B: which was my point last time. I think I. An issue too soon.
[01:06:37] Speaker A: Well, I think in this, by this Book. He. The book doesn't need him to narrate. And as you move into the next.
Into the next arc, you're gonna. You'll. You'll see that as well.
[01:06:50] Speaker B: Yeah, and
[01:06:54] Speaker A: goes into his own, Dan.
[01:06:55] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I think that's the point, right? And so he's off on a plane by himself. He's grabbing his daughter and he's leaving.
[01:07:03] Speaker A: They're leaving on a jet plane. Don't know when it'll be back again.
[01:07:06] Speaker B: And there's the part with his daughter. And I bet this storyline keeps going too, right? And she's talking about, I waited for you. I packed a bag. I would expect you to come back.
But he's going to protect his daughter. He's going to leave. And you know the big line I thought. I mean, the. The back and forth with her calling him out, but he says, you know, I'll bring you back to Gotham in a few weeks when it's safe. Julia, I've seen the aftermath and aftermath in places where Black Mask does this kind of thing right now, I can't risk you being here. Well, why don't you do something about it? This is Chuck Schumer.
Quit whining about it. Quit making a big giant pack, right? And. And then complaining about the red, you know, districting and everything, right? Like, how about you do something?
[01:07:56] Speaker A: Do something.
[01:07:58] Speaker B: Chuck Schumer and Alfred are the same person. They just sit back and do nothing while the world burns around them.
[01:08:07] Speaker A: But there's a problem, Dan, and we're gonna fix it at some point,
[01:08:13] Speaker B: right? Just
[01:08:13] Speaker A: give us
[01:08:14] Speaker B: more money. Just give
[01:08:15] Speaker A: us
[01:08:15] Speaker B: more money. Let us call the problem and give me all the money to go into every primary and campaign against every socialist candidate or somebody that would lean on actually using those funds and that we pay to the government to help people. Let's fucking try to knock them out. And get our ass kicked in the primaries, by the way.
[01:08:35] Speaker A: Yeah, let's go.
[01:08:36] Speaker B: Everybody we back gets our ass kicked. You know why? Because we're tired of your bullshit. You've been in power forever and it's not worked. And Alfred, we're tired of your.
[01:08:47] Speaker A: That's why he's going
[01:08:48] Speaker B: to take your daughter and leave. And you're. We're as tired of you as she is.
We hear the same over and over again. You made the same promise over and over again.
You know, when I was little, I kept this bag packed under my bed. This little blue suitcase I took from Mom's closet. I had my favorite clothes in it. Toys, books. I'd wait for you to get home from your adventures, hoping you take me with you next time. It was all I wanted. Chuck Schumer, I've waited for years for you to actually improve the infrastructure, actually pass universal health care when you had both houses in Congress and the president.
[01:09:30] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:09:30] Speaker B: I waited for you to do things with my little bag in my little suitcase. And you did nothing.
And now what do I have? Nothing.
And that's why when the Democrats win the Senate again and the House again, I hope they get you, get rid of you.
Because I'm tired of it. I'm tired of words.
I'm tired of thoughts and prayers.
I want somebody to do something.
[01:10:00] Speaker A: Do something.
[01:10:03] Speaker B: Just like Alfred's daughter, do something.
[01:10:08] Speaker A: Do something.
[01:10:11] Speaker B: But Batman does something.
[01:10:13] Speaker A: Batman does. Do something.
Batman. Batman does a lot on the next page.
[01:10:20] Speaker B: Yeah, he does. He does the units.
Ah, it's great.
[01:10:29] Speaker A: This Batman is a different Batman.
[01:10:36] Speaker B: Well, I mean, at first, he kind of starts out like the regular Batman. Beefy
[01:10:40] Speaker A: Batman. Yeah, beefy. And this is beefy Batman comes into
[01:10:45] Speaker B: his.
Yeah, I mean, beefy Batman starts out by beating, or he's beating up Siennis, but then Roman takes his jump rope and starts choking him out.
[01:11:03] Speaker A: You
[01:11:03] Speaker B: can get a nice. Very scared.
[01:11:08] Speaker A: Mm.
[01:11:10] Speaker B: And he says, I know this picture is from what that day, Bruce. That's the part why I love it. And we get a reference back to the picture that's in the front at the bottom, and we get this beautiful. I mean, I. I know it's just square paneling,
[01:11:27] Speaker A: but
[01:11:28] Speaker B: we get this beautiful interchange between what's going on now as he's losing his consciousness and the story with his mom. Right?
[01:11:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:11:36] Speaker B: And we just get this interchange, and Snyder and Dragota bring it all back together right now. Right. Like, they bring it all together on.
They take the. The two threads, right? And, like, just thread them together on the single page as Sionis. It seems like Sionis is winning. Right.
And Martha says, well, baby, when things are rough, believing you can make a difference, being hopeful, it's not easy.
And then Siona says in the next panel, you know, I lied about the pigs.
My favorite thing wasn't when they loved it. That was when the pigs were getting killed with the pig gun.
The best was when they fought, when they struggled right up until the end.
And then Martha says, but that's what I see when I look at these pictures.
And Sienna says, when they never believed the bolt could come, when they thought they could win, the scream they made.
And then Martha says, because no matter how hard things Got. And they were rough sometimes. Your dad stayed hopeful.
And then Siona says, the shriek. The best sound in the world.
And then Martha. And then Batman extends his ears.
This is the different Batman. And then Martha says, but he was always at his most hopeful about you.
And then Batman says, did it sound anything like this?
And he just straight up murders him with his ears, dabs a.
Stabs him in the face.
[01:13:30] Speaker A: And then Sionis makes a scream. He. He does die.
[01:13:35] Speaker B: Yeah. He's squealing like a pig.
Well, you know, the. The thing about that is, I wonder if people squealed when they got the guillotine.
[01:13:49] Speaker A: I don't know.
[01:13:52] Speaker B: You know, France doesn't put up with this crap.
[01:13:57] Speaker A: I mean,
[01:13:57] Speaker B: what. What happened in France when they started talking about taking away their pay and their rights?
[01:14:03] Speaker A: I. I think they had a whole entire uprising there. Not too long.
[01:14:09] Speaker B: Not. Not. Not too long ago at all. Yeah,
[01:14:14] Speaker A: just like. I mean, depending on when this podcast goes out, it could be. It could be a week, it could be two.
[01:14:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
What is. Yeah, I mean, it's. It's kind of amazing when you think about it. Right?
[01:14:29] Speaker A: And France is the country that we always make fun of, and they're the ones that seem to know a lot about revolutions.
[01:14:37] Speaker B: Yeah. It's almost like they were saying something like, do you hear the people sing, singing the songs of angry men?
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again.
It's almost like that.
[01:14:55] Speaker A: What, the
[01:14:58] Speaker B: original
[01:14:59] Speaker A: sporting or with Hugh Jackman? I mean, which one do you want?
[01:15:03] Speaker B: Both.
[01:15:04] Speaker A: I mean, I always
[01:15:05] Speaker B: want Hugh Jackman. Always.
[01:15:07] Speaker A: Always.
What if it would
[01:15:12] Speaker B: never. And I never want Russell Crowe. So it's a.
[01:15:20] Speaker A: There you go.
[01:15:21] Speaker B: I mean, Russell Crowe is a bad guy, though.
[01:15:23] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:15:24] Speaker B: fine.
[01:15:24] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:15:25] Speaker B: as. As your bear. Like, that's. That's fine.
I'll. I'll take that.
Did you see on here. Let's lighten the mood for a second. Did you see that John Oliver got Russell Crowe's jock strap back?
[01:15:42] Speaker A: Oh, no, I did not.
[01:15:44] Speaker B: Yeah, he. Apparently the people they sold it to, the leather jockstrap they sold.
They sold on last week, tonight that they sold it to. He sold it again. And so last week, tonight, the leather jock strap again.
[01:16:01] Speaker A: Oh, boy.
Off subject, but since we're speaking about musical sad things, good things.
While I was on the flight back and I took some time because there's a medical emergency, and we had enough time to watch a movie.
[01:16:18] Speaker B: Fantastic.
[01:16:20] Speaker A: Every time I'm on a flight, sometimes it seems like medical emergency pop up. But I watched Hadestown. Fantastic.
[01:16:28] Speaker B: I saw Hadestown in New York.
[01:16:30] Speaker A: I. I'm jealous.
[01:16:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:16:33] Speaker A: Ah,
[01:16:33] Speaker B: it is fantastic.
[01:16:34] Speaker A: So jealous.
[01:16:35] Speaker B: My friends got it for me.
Not my last trip to New York, but the time before.
[01:16:40] Speaker A: Oh, I am so jealous, dude.
[01:16:42] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, it was fantastic. I saw that.
And yeah, I saw Hadestown with my friends. It was fantastic.
And
[01:16:53] Speaker A: I know
[01:16:55] Speaker B: while I was working for a large corporation that Hadestown is making fun of.
[01:17:01] Speaker A: Yes. Well, I know Anne would probably not go see it, but if they're. If they, if they come around here, we're. We're going to go. So.
[01:17:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:17:11] Speaker A: Because I was explaining it to her and she's. It sounds cool, but it doesn't sound cool.
[01:17:16] Speaker B: I think Anne would like it.
[01:17:19] Speaker A: Music, like, music wise. Yes. She would be like, oh, the music is good. But also like. She's like, it's. The. It. It's. It's long as hell.
[01:17:29] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I saw.
You know, though, I think Anne would like it and I, I think it's. This is. Because it, it is long, but it. It doesn't. You don't lose your attention. And they have the nice intermission there.
[01:17:41] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I've listened to the, to the cast recordings for the last, like several years, you know, over, over and over. But like, it's. It's just like just watching the, the actual ver. You know, like the, the recorded version that they had on the flight was like, oh, hey, this is. It's almost like being there and I'm stuck in this chair. How well they attended this person.
And they said, we don't know what's going to happen. So I will just watch this movie.
[01:18:15] Speaker B: Well, I.
I saw in the same week I saw Hadestown with my friends one night and then by myself because they didn't want to go to the naked baseball play. I saw Take Me out the next day.
[01:18:27] Speaker A: Naked baseball.
[01:18:28] Speaker B: Yeah. So it's.
I. Yeah. And it was hilarious because I was sitting next to this couple who got the tickets to take me out from, like, their credit card points or whatever.
[01:18:44] Speaker A: Huh.
And they didn't know what they're getting into.
[01:18:47] Speaker B: The wife was loving it and the husband was like, there are dicks.
[01:18:55] Speaker A: Oh, man.
[01:18:59] Speaker B: And I was like that.
[01:19:05] Speaker A: Multiple balls, no fouls.
[01:19:08] Speaker B: It is a terribly sad play, though. So. Yeah.
Yeah. I don't. If you don't want to cry, don't go to that one. It's.
[01:19:16] Speaker A: There's no crying in baseball. Dan
[01:19:19] Speaker B: rang that night for me. It was. Anyway, there was no crying in this, though, because Martha straightens everybody out and she finished up her yelling at everybody by saying, so if you're killing him, you might want as well start with me. That's her refer to Jim.
But you are better than this. You hear me? We are better than this. Echoing what she had been saying to Bruce earlier about encouraging him and the hope that was brought to her by her dead husband.
And Batman blows up the boat, and then all of a sudden, their whole network goes down.
The targets that are unknown.
Travis should have joined us this week because he would have loved this paneling.
[01:20:03] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, he would have dug it.
[01:20:11] Speaker B: And then Alfred kind of redeemed himself.
By the way, before I get to Alfred, Martha does what we want to do to all incels Punch them.
[01:20:24] Speaker A: Punch them.
[01:20:27] Speaker B: Every Andrew Tate incel I've ever seen online just, like, punch their face.
[01:20:34] Speaker A: It's just there's. There's always. There's always one somewhere.
[01:20:41] Speaker B: Yeah, Yeah. I.
And Batman blows up everything.
We get. We get the very last.
I shouldn't say it's the very last, but the very last of the first six issues of the placards from the.
From the.
From the zoo.
And it says, bats, live long lives.
And Alfred went back to get Batman.
And I still am mad at him,
[01:21:19] Speaker A: but if he's sticking around, so is he.
[01:21:24] Speaker B: I don't know. I. I just feel like. Like I want Chuck Schumer to go away, so I want him to go away.
[01:21:30] Speaker A: But you can't equate Alfred to Chuck Schumer always. I mean, this. This Alfred. I mean, Chuck Schumer is.
Yeah,
[01:21:39] Speaker B: but honestly, though, and. And, you know, if Chuck Schumer came out tomorrow and was like, you know what?
[01:21:45] Speaker A: I made a mistake. Everybody.
[01:21:47] Speaker B: I've made a mistake. In fact, the DSA candidates and everybody should live under a big tent. We should be pushing for progressiveness. You know what? I was wrong to push Bernie out of the thing. Out of the primary. Right. Like, Hillary Clinton was a terrible candidate. Right. Like, this is how we started all this and admit that he's wrong and say that he's moving forward to something else. I don't think I'd believe him, but I would be like, you know, that's a start.
Right?
[01:22:16] Speaker A: Right.
[01:22:17] Speaker B: And at least for Alfred, this is a start. Right? Alfred was guilted by his daughter, and he realizes, you know what?
I can't just sit on the sidelines now.
[01:22:28] Speaker A: I gotta.
Time
[01:22:30] Speaker B: to actually do something.
[01:22:31] Speaker A: Right?
I gotta do something.
[01:22:38] Speaker B: And so he does something. And, you know, it was.
This book is powerful because it's a great book. We're not. I'm getting. I'll get into epilogue in a second.
Epilogue.
[01:22:53] Speaker A: Epilogue.
[01:22:54] Speaker B: I get to the epilogue in a second.
By the way, Travis Webb.
[01:23:00] Speaker A: Travis Webb.
[01:23:02] Speaker B: I haven't mentioned Legion of Superheroes yet, but just for you,
[01:23:06] Speaker A: are we covering Legion of Superheroes when he's on the show?
[01:23:09] Speaker B: No, but just for Travis.
[01:23:10] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[01:23:11] Speaker B: I loved how Paul Levitz used to have not just one epilogue, but sometimes three or four in a book to continue his subplots.
[01:23:17] Speaker A: Right.
[01:23:18] Speaker B: And, Travis, that's your shout out to having the Legion of Superheroes in this podcast. So when you get here.
Sometimes I do things for one listener. I'm doing it for one listener. Travis, this is for you. Legion of Superheroes tie in just for you, my friend.
[01:23:32] Speaker A: He. He did tell me last night on the phone that he was. He was counting his call outs.
And it is. It is fun when you have. When you have a friend that listens and. Well, I mean, gosh darn it. I know we talked about it prior, but, I mean, the listeners should know.
[01:23:52] Speaker B: Well, listeners, Ryan. And listeners. Sean, thank you for the retweets.
[01:23:56] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, not
[01:23:57] Speaker B: retweets. I call them retweets, but they're really re. Metas. What are
[01:24:00] Speaker A: they
[01:24:00] Speaker B: called?
[01:24:00] Speaker A: Reshares.
Sharing. Yeah. Thank you for sharing. Appreciate that. It's. It's always nice to have. Have our folks get things out back out there to vote to everyone else so that people that don't know the show can. Can check it out. But also, if you find something that you like that we've done, then you can share that. That little tidbit with your folks.
Because, yeah, I mean, I had a. I had a co worker, a friend of mine. We've been. We've worked together for a few years. He found us and he's like, oh, I see your little. I. I see you. You do a little video thing online with your friend.
[01:24:41] Speaker B: Yeah,
[01:24:42] Speaker A: a
[01:24:42] Speaker B: little thing.
[01:24:42] Speaker A: He was like, I
[01:24:43] Speaker B: watched. Doing for like, what, six years? Yeah,
[01:24:45] Speaker A: yeah. He goes, I've been. I watched a few of them the other day, and I was like, oh. Oh, you did, huh? Good. They got our
[01:24:51] Speaker B: numbers up. They doubled.
[01:24:52] Speaker A: I was like, don't tell anybody. Don't tell anybody here. He goes, huh? I was like, so.
So, Ray, if you're listening, keep it quiet.
[01:25:03] Speaker B: Well, one of my students found the podcast and was like, oh, wow, you guys have like eight listeners. You really do this. I, you know, I admire you.
[01:25:11] Speaker A: We're. We're trying so hard.
[01:25:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:25:13] Speaker A: If we get.
[01:25:15] Speaker B: He's like, I admire you more because you do this out of just wanting to do it.
And it's. You know, there is that. I think that the joy of this is just doing it because we want to do it.
[01:25:25] Speaker A: Yeah, we want to do it. Well, like I told Rage Day, it's like. I mean, we've been. I mean, like, honestly, we've done this kind of thing since we were kids. And Anne was right when she said you guys should just do a podcast because listen to you guys argue about stuff. Stuff in the back of the store. It sounds like a podcast,
[01:25:42] Speaker B: you know, And. And, well, the thing with Ann is she realizes you and I don't usually argue about stuff. That's. That's the thing.
[01:25:49] Speaker A: But when it comes to comic books, sometimes we have different points of view on things. Or you're educating me on something on a point of view, and it turns into a little bit of a. A discussion. Some politics
[01:26:00] Speaker B: have definitely educated me. Don't do that.
[01:26:02] Speaker A: But, but it. No, but I mean, it turns into. I mean, it educates in the sense of like, not just in comics, but it turns into a little bit of a political discussion or a social ramification discussion or a money management discussion or whatever it may be.
It turns into those types of things and we have our different views on those things.
And she was like, it's fun to listen to, but also,
[01:26:33] Speaker B: you
[01:26:33] Speaker A: know,
[01:26:34] Speaker B: I can get no better endorsement from Anne, the owner of the Retro Emporium on Meaker street in Canada, Washington, where you can relive your childhood and smell Fruit Loops when you walk in the door, then saying, she appreciates listening to me. Because sometimes I wonder.
No, I love Anne. I.
I love my time I get to spend with Anne sometimes when you're not there.
[01:26:58] Speaker A: That's true. She'll. She'll message me and. And she's like, haha, I got to hang out with your friends today.
[01:27:03] Speaker B: Yep.
Well, and. And I got before. Before. Before the. The end times. Before COVID Oh,
[01:27:11] Speaker A: yeah, you. And you'd be. You were organized your
[01:27:13] Speaker B: birthday parties and stuff. Yeah,
[01:27:14] Speaker A: Yeah, I know when I actually, when. When I do things. Well, I mean, the last couple years have been kind of a show, but
[01:27:21] Speaker B: your birthday was fantastic this year. I don't
[01:27:24] Speaker A: know. No, no, this year was fantastic. And I'm expecting something even.
No, I'm just joking.
[01:27:30] Speaker B: Okay, let's go. I'll put it now.
[01:27:32] Speaker A: I. I'm. If I don't
[01:27:34] Speaker B: know what I don't want to go for my birthday.
[01:27:37] Speaker A: Where.
[01:27:38] Speaker B: Just let's. Let's just go back.
[01:27:40] Speaker A: Oh, just go back.
[01:27:43] Speaker B: We could Just go back to Vegas. Anyway,
[01:27:45] Speaker A: okay,
[01:27:48] Speaker B: so we get to the last page.
[01:27:49] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:27:50] Speaker B: On that note, if we do it again, though, we should tell the listeners when we're going to be there.
[01:27:54] Speaker A: Oh, so everyone else can show up. And then it turns into a big listener party, and we're all hanging out, and we're like, yeah, everybody was cool.
[01:28:01] Speaker B: We'll have one Travis Webb organize it. He is good at organizing events.
[01:28:04] Speaker A: He is the, the party master.
[01:28:07] Speaker B: You are a contract person. Is. He is an organizer of events.
[01:28:10] Speaker A: Yes. It's
[01:28:10] Speaker B: true. So we get to the last page and. Okay, here's the real spoiler. The Joker is here.
[01:28:17] Speaker A: Oh, no,
[01:28:19] Speaker B: I think they don't call him the Joker, but we get a man. He says, sir Sionis is reporting.
He is.
It seems like there's been a small snag in Gotham City. How is Sionis reporting, by the way? Isn't he dead? Dead?
[01:28:34] Speaker A: I don't think he's dead dead. I think he's just been stabbed in the face. Eyes.
[01:28:39] Speaker B: If you get stabbed through the eyes, you're
[01:28:42] Speaker A: dead. Yeah, I think he's dying.
[01:28:46] Speaker B: And the Joker, like, looking person is. I'm aware. It's time. Get Bane.
[01:28:53] Speaker A: Oh,
[01:28:57] Speaker B: and then we flip the page and we get an advertisement for number seven.
But by the way, something we probably should review because it did win an Eisner.
[01:29:07] Speaker A: What's that?
[01:29:09] Speaker B: The Martian Manhunter. Absolute Martian Manhunter.
[01:29:12] Speaker A: The Martini Manhunter. Okay, so he's a Manhunter that he's hunting martinis. Look at
[01:29:17] Speaker B: the coloring and art down here.
[01:29:19] Speaker A: It's pretty sweet. I know. I, I, it is pretty great.
[01:29:22] Speaker B: Yeah. And I'm way behind on reading that series, too, and it won an Eisner. And what's that supposed to be? Fantastic. What is an Eisner?
[01:29:31] Speaker A: Yeah, the sound.
[01:29:35] Speaker B: You love that sound.
[01:29:36] Speaker A: I don't love that sound.
[01:29:39] Speaker B: You know, it's funny. I was editing the last podcast, and the only sound that actually made it through.
[01:29:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:29:44] Speaker B: Was my dryer finishing.
[01:29:46] Speaker A: He was, like,
[01:29:47] Speaker B: singing the song. I was like,
[01:29:48] Speaker A: at least somebody did
[01:29:51] Speaker B: hot.
We could do. We could do putting comic books into Dan's database.
[01:29:58] Speaker A: Oh, boy. Click, click, click, click, click.
[01:30:00] Speaker B: Exciting.
Oh,
[01:30:04] Speaker A: that's
[01:30:04] Speaker B: interesting. That's a loser.
[01:30:05] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:30:06] Speaker B: but you liked finding out what we're bringing to sell.
[01:30:10] Speaker A: Yes. Yes.
[01:30:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:30:14] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:30:15] Speaker B: Maybe I could get Anne at the Retro Emporium to make me some tags for these.
[01:30:20] Speaker A: Oh, some tags for those. And we tag them. Boom, boom, boom.
[01:30:26] Speaker B: Yep. The
[01:30:27] Speaker A: tag gun. I'll stab myself again.
[01:30:30] Speaker B: Well, in important things,
[01:30:32] Speaker A: yes.
[01:30:32] Speaker B: Are we done? Almost.
[01:30:34] Speaker A: I think we are, we are almost done. We are done with the. We are done. Well, I mean, done with this. Well,
[01:30:39] Speaker B: we're done with the bug,
[01:30:40] Speaker A: done with this issue.
Getting, getting done to wrap the cloudcast.
[01:30:45] Speaker B: We
[01:30:45] Speaker A: might do
[01:30:46] Speaker B: now. We might do a number seven sometime. I think we may read something else in between and then go back to this just so it's not all absolute Batman.
[01:30:54] Speaker A: Well, I, I know we have, we. We got, we got that, that, that Wiley, Travis Webb coming back.
[01:31:01] Speaker B: We've got some Legion issues to review.
[01:31:03] Speaker A: Yeah, we got some Legion issues to review and I think probably
[01:31:06] Speaker B: should do one and two.
[01:31:08] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:31:09] Speaker B: I
[01:31:10] Speaker A: guess
[01:31:10] Speaker B: I'm really
[01:31:11] Speaker A: get this.
[01:31:13] Speaker B: Feral just.
Feral just rebooted itself. Not rebooted, but redid a new storyline.
It's. There's a lot of. Obviously there's a lot of good books and we maybe go back in history and do something too.
I've got, you know, all the saga books too, which we haven't gone back to. There's. There's a lot of stuff.
[01:31:32] Speaker A: We
[01:31:33] Speaker B: go back to the Jack Kirby DC universe stuff that
[01:31:35] Speaker A: we might, we might. As we're digging through the boxes at the, at the Great City Comic show, we might find ourselves.
Us one, issue two.
[01:31:45] Speaker B: Oh, God. Oh, God.
By the way, if you are at Grid City Comic Con and you see us and you bring us a book, we will try to cover it. So
[01:31:53] Speaker A: yeah, come talk
[01:31:53] Speaker B: to us and if you have something you want us to cover, let us know.
[01:31:56] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, definitely. I know that I, I do. I do know that we will see some people there are, you know, definitely going to be some folks there that, that are looking forward to seeing us. So I'm excited to see Rich
[01:32:08] Speaker B: City Comic Con, by the way, if. Comic
[01:32:10] Speaker A: Show. Comic Show.
[01:32:11] Speaker B: Sorry, Grit City Comics Show. Hang on, let's try that again. Grit City Comic Show.
[01:32:17] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:32:18] Speaker B: if you go,
[01:32:19] Speaker A: if you go to the comic show,
[01:32:22] Speaker B: you will see Michael Gagne, you will see Dave Warren, you will see Scott Collins, you will see Melanie Cohn, you will see Robin Hood, you will see Jeff Johnson, you will see Matthew Clark, you will see Bob Smith, you will see Ron Randall, you will see Fan Yang, you will see Dev Madden. Yes.
[01:32:35] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:32:36] Speaker B: You will see Sean Dietrich, will see Warren Montgomery, you'll see Rich Warner, you will see Jason Metcalf, you will see Greg Gregory K. Smith, you will see Michael Tanner. You will see me.
[01:32:47] Speaker A: Oh my.
That's a whole cavalier of people.
[01:32:51] Speaker B: We would love to see you there. And if you are there, come up and say hi to us. If you have a Book you want us to review from the dollar bins, grab it. And you know, if you bring me a book from the dollar or $2 bins, I will pay you for the book. Like you can give it to us, but I will happily pay you for the book.
[01:33:07] Speaker A: We got the cash
[01:33:07] Speaker B: and we will consider covering it on the podcast in the future.
If you are one of the folks we just named and you want to do a show with us.
[01:33:17] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:33:18] Speaker B: after the thing, we were happy to have you on, just like we've done with other guests. And in fact, I will very much be asking Dev to come on the show while we are there and I'll be very much asking Rich Warner to come on the show while we were there because we've talked to both of them in the past and I just didn't pull the trigger on asking them to come on the show. And we'd love to have you
[01:33:44] Speaker A: either. Like, like, honestly, having both, both of them on, you know, different shows would be amazing. They are fantastic.
So if you are going to, if you are going to the show, notch out some time, go talk to them. They are
[01:34:02] Speaker B: talking to Deb about comics. So Deb does a lot of. Of cards. Right.
[01:34:06] Speaker A: And. And yeah,
[01:34:08] Speaker B: but Dev knows about comics. Like if you want to talk about like 80s 90s, 2000s now comics, talk to Dev. Dev's knowledge is incredible
[01:34:18] Speaker A: deep.
And then if you are like, oh, hey, I want to know all the interesting, intricate things about what to do and what not to do in. In like, you know, here are some interesting sub publishing stories and, and you know, like about art, writing and other stuff. Rich Warner or not. Not Rich. Sorry.
[01:34:39] Speaker B: Yeah, Rich Warner.
[01:34:41] Speaker A: Rich Warner
[01:34:42] Speaker B: Comics.
[01:34:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:34:43] Speaker B: If you want to know everything. Right?
If you want to know everything.
[01:34:49] Speaker A: Yeah, he's. I don't know.
[01:34:54] Speaker B: Yeah. And.
And you could talk to Greg and Mike too. I mean, Mike, I've been jabbing at Tanner, but I hope everybody realizes I'm just dead jabbing at Tanner for funsies.
[01:35:05] Speaker A: Oh, you're supposed to keep.
Oh my God
[01:35:10] Speaker B: is done. Jim Cornette. I'm sorry, I've ended the kayfabe look
[01:35:14] Speaker A: you've ended. I've been building. We're
[01:35:16] Speaker B: gonna be talking to Tanner about
[01:35:17] Speaker A: getting. Talking it up on other shows, Dan. I've been talking it up on other shows and I'll be like, oh, this guy is going to destroy the Tanner at the next time they talk on the red on the funny book forensics. If they meet up in the retro empire, it's going to be a cage match. They're doing a ladder match and they're bringing in the little people. It's going to be amazing. The little people is going to be there. He's going to tell them what he's going to tell them, and you tell them this, Dan. And Dan's going to be like, I'm going to tell him. I'm going to tell him. I'm going to tell him. And Mike's going to be like, will.
Yep.
[01:35:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
All. All fun aside, I will have a cage match with Tanner. Some of the things Tanner says drive me crazy,
[01:36:02] Speaker A: but I enjoy it so much,
[01:36:05] Speaker B: it makes for a
[01:36:06] Speaker A: fantastic dinner.
[01:36:07] Speaker B: I would also say, though, if you're reading Tanner's Internet post, he goes further left than me. And it's.
We were probably in alignment with what a lot of things that were mentioned on this podcast. But the, the, the. The interesting thing is, like, Tanner's wealth of knowledge about current comics and comics in the past and how to write and put together a story is incredible. And come by and talk to him. He's. He's a nice guy, and he's probably gonna hate me for saying this because this means people will actually come talk to him, but he actually really is a nice guy, and he will engage you even if he gets grumpy about it later.
[01:36:45] Speaker A: You know,
[01:36:46] Speaker B: the problem is when you're an introvert, you get exhausted. If you're Greg, you love talking to people, and then later that night, you're like, yeah, I talked to people all day. This is fantastic. And if
[01:36:54] Speaker A: you're
[01:36:55] Speaker B: Dan and Tanner, you're like, oh, my God, we love talking to people all day, but we're now exhausted.
[01:37:00] Speaker A: You know what I found out? I found out that I am. I am. Whatever. There's like a, there's hybrid. Is that the hybrid? Whereas
[01:37:10] Speaker B: Amber heard. Yep.
[01:37:11] Speaker A: Yes. You're. You're, like, needed to buy
[01:37:13] Speaker B: yourself things, but you also like the energy of people around you.
[01:37:16] Speaker A: Yes. That's why I, I, I disappear midweek sometimes and I, I do my own things.
This week at work is like dress up week, and I'm like, all for it. But most of the time at work, it is. I am. I'm like Einstein. I wear the same fucking clothes every day.
[01:37:36] Speaker B: Is that when. Wait, you said I. You said what?
[01:37:39] Speaker A: Einstein. You know Einstein, he wear. He, he had the same suits, the same. It was.
[01:37:45] Speaker B: Who
[01:37:45] Speaker A: is
[01:37:46] Speaker B: this Einstein? Like,
[01:37:48] Speaker A: sign.
[01:37:49] Speaker B: The hair.
[01:37:49] Speaker A: Yeah, with the hair. He had, like, what
[01:37:51] Speaker B: I would have if I grew my hair.
[01:37:52] Speaker A: Yes, he had. Yes, yes, exactly. Yes. Like your dad.
[01:38:01] Speaker B: I brought in there?
[01:38:03] Speaker A: Yes. Yes. For whatever.
What? I remember when we were kids, your father's parents. Why?
[01:38:08] Speaker B: I shaved my head
[01:38:10] Speaker A: so
[01:38:11] Speaker B: I can't
[01:38:12] Speaker A: grow. He
[01:38:12] Speaker B: had sideburns. He used to have.
[01:38:13] Speaker A: Oh, man, those Chavez.
[01:38:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:38:16] Speaker A: So. But Einstein had, like, the same. He had, like, seven of the same suits so that he never had to make a decision.
[01:38:24] Speaker B: Yeah, it was like. Like the former head of Apple. Yes.
[01:38:29] Speaker A: Yes. So I
[01:38:31] Speaker B: have.
[01:38:32] Speaker A: I. I literally have, like, three.
[01:38:36] Speaker B: Bro, we're shopping. I'm gonna dress you, for God's sake.
[01:38:39] Speaker A: I have three pairs of the same pants for work in different colors, and I have three pairs of the same shirt in different colors so that I. I. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, it is this. Thursday, and Friday, it is this. And usually that is like, I. I just look like all the time this week. People are like, what is going on?
And it's like, well, I just, like, let the closet decide.
And then one of my co workers was like, that sounds kind of like, are you. And I'm like, you know, funny story.
[01:39:18] Speaker B: Well, then
[01:39:23] Speaker A: growing up, many people thought,
[01:39:27] Speaker B: this is.
[01:39:28] Speaker A: Dan's getting quiet.
[01:39:29] Speaker B: Well, no, I got quiet because I looked down at the baseball game and they're like, doing a stand up for cancer thing.
[01:39:34] Speaker A: Oh.
[01:39:35] Speaker B: I'm like, that's sad and depressing. I want to come back to where we are.
[01:39:39] Speaker A: Oh.
[01:39:40] Speaker B: Because Greg said cancer sucks.
[01:39:43] Speaker A: It does suck, dude. It sucks. Like, when you lose both your parents to cancer, it kind of sucks. And you're kind of like,
[01:39:51] Speaker B: sucks.
[01:39:52] Speaker A: And then you're sitting there when everybody's like, oh, hey, we're doing this thing. And it's like, I've done the thing. I've done the thing for like 10 years, maybe more.
And yeah,
[01:40:05] Speaker B: taking
[01:40:05] Speaker A: care
[01:40:06] Speaker B: of people sucks, but it's great because they're wonderful people. So it's
[01:40:10] Speaker A: just.
[01:40:12] Speaker B: And yeah, well, that took a dark turn. But
[01:40:16] Speaker A: yeah,
[01:40:17] Speaker B: I think we. I think we should wrap this.
[01:40:19] Speaker A: That's kind of like when the. When the. The lady at the insurance company, after my parents passed away, she was like, you're an orphan now. And I was like, I'm not an orphan. And she goes, what?
You don't have any parents? And I'm like, I'm Batman.
[01:40:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
Yeah. I am confused about how Darkseid thought this would make a worse human. Like, but. But again, I'm not confused because I could imagine this is how. This is how fucking Mark Zuckerberg. This is how Elon Musk. This is how they would think you would become a worse human, right?
[01:40:51] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Oh, I don't have anything.
[01:40:53] Speaker B: I
[01:40:54] Speaker A: don't have
[01:40:54] Speaker B: any money. Oh, no. You know, the only one I'll give a free pass is Jeff Bezos. Because he did that. Only because he did that interview with 60 Minutes in, like, 1999 where he was still driving, like, his was Toyota Camry or something like that around town and being like, why would I get a different car? Like, oh, this one works fine. Of course, now he has yachts, and he's like, yeah,
[01:41:15] Speaker A: he's changed. He's changed.
[01:41:17] Speaker B: I. I mean, I had.
Okay, it is a little tight, I guess, but still.
[01:41:26] Speaker A: But are you. Are you in yachts?
[01:41:28] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't have a yacht now.
[01:41:31] Speaker A: Well, I mean, you're not. I mean,
[01:41:33] Speaker B: I
[01:41:34] Speaker A: could
[01:41:34] Speaker B: launch a yacht from the University Place Yacht Club, but no, I don't.
[01:41:37] Speaker A: Oh, well, I mean, I guess you could.
You're. You're. You're almost there.
[01:41:42] Speaker B: I could buy one if I really wanted to.
[01:41:44] Speaker A: You don't want to, though? Do you know how much upkeep is on that?
[01:41:48] Speaker B: Oh, I
[01:41:49] Speaker A: know.
[01:41:50] Speaker B: Boats are dangerous,
[01:41:51] Speaker A: dude. When my uncle had a boat. And when
[01:41:53] Speaker B: Batman comes on and destroys your boat.
[01:41:55] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, you don't want to be there for it. You're just a mess. It's a mess.
[01:42:01] Speaker B: Look, we'll see you at Grid City.
[01:42:03] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:42:04] Speaker B: We can't wait for you to be there. If you can't be at Grid City, that's okay.
Still, message us and let us know what you want us to cover next.
Additionally, if you do want to go to Grid City, I do have some tickets left.

[01:42:32] Speaker A: their. On their thing right there. Free.

[01:43:00] Speaker A: called
[01:43:00] Speaker B: Sorry, Comic Show.
[01:43:02] Speaker A: We're giving out those tickets for the show.
[01:43:04] Speaker B: Wouldn't want San Diego to sue me, for God's sake.
[01:43:06] Speaker A: Oh, my. Good.
[01:43:08] Speaker B: Grid City Comic Show. But we. We have more tickets if you want one. And please come Out. It's a great show. Support the vendors, support the artists that are there, and really support a show that supports actual comics. Right?
[01:43:21] Speaker A: Yes.
Come to the comic show, buy some comics, talk to Greg
[01:43:26] Speaker B: and I, and we'll talk to you all about comics, creating comics. Whatever you want to talk about. We're out here talking.
[01:43:31] Speaker A: We are.
[01:43:33] Speaker B: And probably. That's a lot of pl. Oh, we forgot to plug one thing.
[01:43:37] Speaker A: What was that? What do we plug, Dan? What did we not plug?
[01:43:40] Speaker B: Well, let's say you're the squacho man.
[01:43:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, you know, I hear you want to. Okay, you tell me. What if I'm the squacho man?
[01:43:48] Speaker B: Let's say you're the Squatcher man.
[01:43:49] Speaker A: I'm not the squatcho man.
[01:43:51] Speaker B: And let's say
[01:43:55] Speaker A: what?
[01:43:59] Speaker B: You're correct. You are not.
[01:44:01] Speaker A: I'm not the squacho man.
[01:44:03] Speaker B: You're not the cream of the crop.
[01:44:05] Speaker A: I'm. I'm not the cream of the crop.
[01:44:06] Speaker B: In fact, you've never cut a promo like that at all?
[01:44:09] Speaker A: No. Never, ever.
[01:44:11] Speaker B: I
[01:44:11] Speaker A: can't even do that. You could ask. You. You could ask Jason, who was on the show previous when we play dnd. I. I've tried.
I've tried to do the voice. I can't do it.
I can't. My character. My character can't. He can't do it. It comes out like Ric Flair. Why are you doing that to me? Ric Flair?
[01:44:31] Speaker B: That's not Rick. That's not Dusty. That's like. What do you call me, Rich? Like, what are you doing?
[01:44:37] Speaker A: I know exactly. See, I can't even do. I can't even do a Dusty Rhodes.
So it's not even. It's. It's. It's like. It's not even good. None of it.
[01:44:46] Speaker B: Okay, well, anyway, let's see.
[01:44:47] Speaker A: I'm the son of a
[01:44:48] Speaker B: plumber man. I can't
[01:44:49] Speaker A: help it.
[01:44:50] Speaker B: You're not the son of a plumber.
[01:44:52] Speaker A: I know. He's an electrician and an H vac man.
[01:44:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
So let's say you're the squacho man.
[01:44:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:44:59] Speaker B: And let's say you work for an esteemed institution like the Retro Emporium in Kent, Washington.
And let's say that esteemed institution has abandoned you, taking your poster off the wall, giving you terrible working hours, and basically only did that because you have fur.
[01:45:18] Speaker A: Wow, that's a. That's a reach.
[01:45:25] Speaker B: Yeah, well, it may be a reach, but I don't think it is because where is the squasher man right now?
[01:45:32] Speaker A: Squash a band. Went on a Vacation to go around to all the different places in the nation that he wanted to visit because there are multiple other people in his cryptic community that he needed to go and visit.
[01:45:47] Speaker B: So.
Well, yeah, so that's what the employer says, but what the employee says is more important and how they weren't accommodated for their potential disability or
[01:45:56] Speaker A: their. You're saying he wasn't accommodated? But you know what? He told us that, like. Okay, you're saying accommodated or whatever. Are you saying monetarily or how. What. What is this? Because he told us he needed to be paid encrypted coin. And
[01:46:11] Speaker B: if.
[01:46:11] Speaker A: You know, I'm not saying crypto coin. I'm saying cryptid coin. That's a whole entire new denomination of. Of coin for cryptids by cryptids, owned by Cryptids. So, like Squatch O Man has his own.
The Mothman, the Loch Ness Monster. They all have their own cryptid coins, Dan.
[01:46:33] Speaker B: Well, good news.
If you do struggle with your employer.
[01:46:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:46:37] Speaker B: And you feel like you've been discriminated against, you can contact Jiu Jitsu lawyer Paul.
[01:46:40] Speaker A: Does he take Cryptid coin?
[01:46:42] Speaker B: No.
[01:46:43] Speaker A: Well, then how is the squacho man gonna pay him, Dan?
[01:46:46] Speaker B: He takes actual cash money, but.
[01:46:48] Speaker A: Well, that's why have to go and go convert this cryptid coin into cash money
[01:46:54] Speaker B: now. Well, you could certainly hire a jujitsu lawyer.
[01:46:56] Speaker A: Are you telling me the Squatcho man can't hire the squad? The. The squatto man can't hire Jiu Jitsu Lura Paul. Now, because he only has cryptic coin.
[01:47:06] Speaker B: Well, that may. That may be the case. But if his case is clear and well explained and he is being discriminated against, his player, Jiu J Pal will take you on a. What's called a. What's called a contingency basis. And he will only get paid if he wins.
[01:47:22] Speaker A: If he wins,
[01:47:23] Speaker B: yes. And do you know how to contact Jiu Jitsu lawyer Ball?
[01:47:26] Speaker A: I don't know. But I don't know if the squacho man needs to know this or not.
[01:47:30] Speaker B: Well,
[01:47:30] Speaker A: he does.
[01:47:32] Speaker B: He does need to know. It's 253-656-4475.
[01:47:37] Speaker A: What's that number again?
[01:47:38] Speaker B: 253-656-4475 for cases in Washington or California.
[01:47:44] Speaker A: What about New York?
[01:47:45] Speaker B: New York's coming soon. I'll let you know.
[01:47:48] Speaker A: Can you? Just like they'll
[01:47:49] Speaker B: let you know when Junior Braves of the Apocalypse is going to have a third issue.
It.
[01:47:57] Speaker A: You know, I'm gonna see some art next week.
[01:48:00] Speaker B: We're gonna break that right here. All right?
Well, that's about it. We had to get one more plug in there. But come back next week. And we have no idea what we're doing next week. But we will do something.
[01:48:14] Speaker A: I hear Squatcho Man's bringing cryptid coins.
[01:48:17] Speaker B: He's bringing cryptic coins. Maybe we're covering some Jack Kirby stuff all
[01:48:22] Speaker A: about crypto coins.
[01:48:25] Speaker B: I don't know. Maybe we'll cover 1990 WCW Halloween Havoc.
[01:48:32] Speaker A: Oh really?
[01:48:33] Speaker B: Oh yeah, that's the one where they put Abdullah the Butcher in the chair and electrocuted him.
[01:48:37] Speaker A: Oh man.
[01:48:39] Speaker B: Where the switch was stuck in the on position the whole time.
[01:48:42] Speaker A: How many times did he die?
[01:48:44] Speaker B: Oh, he died a lot of times.
[01:48:45] Speaker A: Oh, that's terrible.
[01:48:47] Speaker B: Yeah, it was terrible. Anyway,
[01:48:48] Speaker A: very timely.
[01:48:49] Speaker B: Yeah, it's very timely. It's just like. It's just like. It's just like doing execution live on tv. It's crazy.
[01:48:55] Speaker A: Oh my God.
[01:48:58] Speaker B: We're out of here. Talk to you later. Goodbye, everyone.
