Episode Transcript
[00:00:06] Speaker A: You're going fearless.
[00:00:07] Speaker B: Oh, boy.
I was lured here by Greg. He's been gone.
You don't know why he's been gone.
[00:00:15] Speaker A: I've been gone.
[00:00:16] Speaker B: I'll let Greg talk about it if he wants to. I told you Greg was fine. Travis told you Greg was fine. Palmer told you Greg was fine. Greg is here.
And Greg. And Anne, the owner of the Retro Emporium, as you can see where we're at on Meeker street in Kent, Washington, lured me here under the guise of recording a podcast.
[00:00:38] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:00:38] Speaker B: And as you can see, I instead moved large piles of records.
[00:00:43] Speaker A: Two and a half hours later, the podcast.
[00:00:47] Speaker B: But you get to see my guns. So, you know, like you've. I mean, this is a podcast first. I mean, I can put my dress shirt back on from work, which was super exciting.
[00:00:56] Speaker A: I mean, it was a whole entire transformation.
[00:00:59] Speaker B: I could go get. I could go get like a straight out of Kent shirt, put it on.
[00:01:03] Speaker A: I mean, you could.
[00:01:04] Speaker B: It could happen right here in the middle of the podcast.
[00:01:06] Speaker A: But this is, this is more like.
I mean, you, You. You've fit the. The role.
[00:01:15] Speaker B: I do. And, and we also apologize ahead of time for the background noise. There's like a refrigerator and another refrigerator.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: And then.
[00:01:23] Speaker B: Because we're live on. On set, basically. Yeah. Live on set here at the Retro Emporium.
[00:01:28] Speaker A: Retro Forum.
[00:01:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:29] Speaker A: I mean, Beer Street, Kent, Washington.
[00:01:32] Speaker B: Are you just going to mumble it or what?
[00:01:34] Speaker A: Kent, Washington on Meager Street.
[00:01:36] Speaker B: Well, anyway, we're. We're back.
We did take a couple weeks off. Sorry about that. We recorded Travis. I actually went to Las Vegas and recorded with Travis.
[00:01:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:01:47] Speaker B: And re recorded what anyone would consider to be a very special episode.
[00:01:53] Speaker A: I didn't watch it or listen to it.
[00:01:55] Speaker B: Well, that's because we didn't put it up yet.
[00:01:57] Speaker A: Oh my God.
[00:01:57] Speaker B: Cuz I still. I got the video yesterday. So special. At some point. The very special episode, you know, like from the 80s sitcoms. Oh, yeah.
[00:02:06] Speaker A: It's coming back. It is. It's going to let you know a real special thing.
[00:02:11] Speaker B: Well, it is. It is very. I'll tell them what the special thing is. Travis and I watched the pilot for the Power Pack television show.
[00:02:20] Speaker A: Oh my.
[00:02:21] Speaker B: It was.
It was something. Yeah. Yeah, it was. It was definitely something.
[00:02:27] Speaker A: That's good. That's good.
[00:02:28] Speaker B: I can say that I have. I. That I can say that I have now seen it. You saw it? Yeah.
[00:02:34] Speaker A: And you felt things that you didn't know you'd feel.
[00:02:37] Speaker B: I could say that I've now seen it.
[00:02:39] Speaker A: And then you Took those emotions that you didn't know you had and you put them in a ball and you took that nail and you kicked it into space.
[00:02:47] Speaker B: No, not really. No, that didn't happen at all.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: That's what Travis said.
[00:02:52] Speaker B: Travis is delusional. But anyway, how we have here in our hands. My tablet. Yes, Mr. Gold Number One is at home. And I know you've been waiting a long time for Greg and I to do this.
[00:03:07] Speaker A: Everybody's wanted this to happen and I'm sorry. Everybody.
[00:03:11] Speaker B: I've.
[00:03:12] Speaker A: I had, I mean, I'll just, I'll just.
[00:03:14] Speaker B: He has things.
[00:03:15] Speaker A: I've had things and. Yeah, it's not fun things. Had to deal with some family stuff.
A lot of, you know that my grandmother has, has been living with my wife and I for the better part of the last several years, almost eight years now. And.
Oh, she got really sick over the last couple months and she just, she, she just passed away. So it's been a very rough decline change and it's going to be very.
[00:03:57] Speaker B: Quiet in my house.
[00:03:59] Speaker A: I think because I'm so used to her being there and us having a lot of goofy things where she always looks forward to my.
My phone calls with Dan, which is us recording a podcast.
[00:04:15] Speaker B: Well, and we're, we're about to. This is a February court cover date, which means it would have come out in November 85.
So we're about to talk about a 40 year old comic book.
[00:04:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:04:27] Speaker B: I want you to put in perspective. Baba led a very, very long life. Oh, yeah. Uh, Greg and I figured out she was at 13 in Japan during Hiroshima during the end of World War II. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you think that is a long life of seeing many different things in many different countries and yeah, I mean it's kind of amazing. And so we'll, we'll. We're. I don't think that Baba would want us to celebrate her life with the Booster Gold number one.
[00:04:58] Speaker A: I don't know. I mean it's got, it's got gold in it in the title. She liked, she liked fancy things. Anything fancy anything. And, and, and Booster Gold, he's a fancy guy.
[00:05:07] Speaker B: But one of the things that she did love is when you were happy.
[00:05:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:16] Speaker B: She used to make Greg food even though he couldn't eat it.
[00:05:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:19] Speaker B: All the time.
[00:05:20] Speaker A: Just a lot of. And I will say I'm gonna miss that. I'm also gonna probably be a lot healthier now that I am not having to eat a lot of things that.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: I can't eat, like gluten.
[00:05:31] Speaker A: Yes. Oh, my gosh. My gut.
[00:05:33] Speaker B: But soy sauce is delicious. So is msg, but I can eat.
[00:05:37] Speaker A: A lot of that stuff without the gluten and.
Yeah.
[00:05:41] Speaker B: Well, I will say, though, we. We. We honor her.
[00:05:45] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:05:46] Speaker B: And that's why Greg has not been with us. But he's back now, and so we plan to keep going on with this podcast.
Oh, we're stopping.
[00:05:56] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:57] Speaker B: Forever. No, we're just stopping the podcast.
[00:06:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:06:01] Speaker B: For permanent.
[00:06:02] Speaker A: No.
[00:06:02] Speaker B: Oh, stop it. So one thing we are going to announce today, too.
Now that Greg is back and we're kicking this off, I'm also going to have some changes happening in the next couple of months. And so Greg and I are. Well, mostly Dan, like. Greg and Dan are going to kick off another podcast.
[00:06:23] Speaker A: Another one?
[00:06:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Called Funny Book Friends.
[00:06:26] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:06:26] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:06:27] Speaker A: Where we bring those people that we know.
[00:06:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:06:30] Speaker A: Talk to us.
[00:06:31] Speaker B: So if we reached out to you at Cons at.
Just because we like you, and we said, hey, we would love for you to be on the show.
[00:06:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: We. Instead of bringing you on this show where Greg and I end up reading 9 issues of Booster Gold and then can never figure out when to fit somebody in because we keep duping, doing the things. Or even when I did with Travis, we read several issues of Power Pack. Yeah. In a row. It didn't seem to fit. Right. Like, we kept trying to figure out, how does this work? How do we get somebody else on the show?
And it never seemed to fit because we just get in a routine and we do issue after issue, which makes sense. So our plan is, instead, it might be just me. It might be Greg, I. And the guest. It might be Travis, Dan and the guest. It could be Travis, Greg in the guest.
[00:07:16] Speaker A: Or it could be me and a guest.
[00:07:17] Speaker B: It could be Greg and a guest. But what we are going to do is we're going to start from issue one for that podcast.
And so if you are a creator.
[00:07:32] Speaker A: Oh, the thing.
[00:07:33] Speaker B: We've talked to you.
[00:07:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:07:34] Speaker B: Or we haven't talked to you, and you have a story that you want to talk about and you think I might like reading it or Greg might like reading it. Because we do have different taste.
[00:07:44] Speaker A: It's true. We do.
[00:07:45] Speaker B: Yeah, It's. Or Travis. Even my, like, Travis, you know, I brought him on the podcast.
[00:07:53] Speaker A: Oh, Travis.
[00:07:53] Speaker B: Yeah. Your co author.
[00:07:55] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:07:56] Speaker B: For Starlight. What, You've heard of it?
[00:07:58] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:07:58] Speaker B: Yeah, he came on the podcast.
[00:08:00] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, yeah.
[00:08:01] Speaker B: So anyway, moral of the story is I don't want to spend too long on it because I. I said A few months ago, we were trying to do some different things, and then we had, obviously, family things, and different things come up.
I had some work things, too.
So what we're gonna do, life happens.
[00:08:17] Speaker A: I mean, it's unpredictable.
[00:08:19] Speaker B: But now we're ready to go, and so expect that in the next couple of months.
[00:08:24] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:08:25] Speaker B: That we start rolling those podcasts out, too. And so other things that I might try to do that I've talked to Greg about is maybe even putting up some shorts from some of our early podcasts.
[00:08:37] Speaker A: I think it's great because I like. I'm all about having, like, different. I like cargos. I like jorts. I like the ones that are. The Bahama one.
Like, the ones that are made out of sweatpants that are super comfortable. So I'm all about all the different shorts. I'm also big on swimwear, different types, because also, those are nice. Sometimes you get the ones that have the mesh and everything inside. It's like having a second pair of pants on, and it feels good.
[00:09:08] Speaker B: It's almost like having shorts on and then hiding your phone in your shorts and not silencing it before we start the podcast.
[00:09:14] Speaker A: Oh, my God. I'm that dude.
[00:09:17] Speaker B: I'm that person, and usually it's me.
[00:09:20] Speaker A: I know.
[00:09:21] Speaker B: This time you couldn't manage to do it.
[00:09:23] Speaker A: I'm sorry, everybody. I've been so used to having all the nursing staff call me.
[00:09:28] Speaker B: Oh, wow.
[00:09:30] Speaker A: I see over the last two months about. About my grandmother that I've. I've gotten so used to having the phone just not on silent that I. I've. I've not silenced my phone and almost too much, so. Sorry, Dan.
[00:09:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
Yeah. Now I feel great. Thanks.
[00:09:48] Speaker A: Got him.
[00:09:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
Wow. On that note, what a great way to start.
Honestly, Baba would love it.
[00:09:58] Speaker A: I.
[00:09:58] Speaker B: You know, I think that. I think that that's a perfect way to introduce a massively underwhelming first appearance, a character that we both love. Well.
[00:10:09] Speaker A: Oh, the. Are you talking about the. The Black Guard? Because he is awesome. Yeah, the Black Guard Ponytail.
[00:10:15] Speaker B: I loved it when he got murdered in Suicide Squad. Like, it was fantastic. Yeah.
[00:10:19] Speaker A: Super great.
[00:10:19] Speaker B: Like, man, the Black Guard. What, were we making fun of a character that looked just like this.
[00:10:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:25] Speaker B: In Iron Man.
[00:10:26] Speaker A: Iron Man, Yeah. Like, when he goes up against the three guys at the.
[00:10:31] Speaker B: Right. Boy, right before, he was really drunk. Yeah, yeah, he was just a little drunk.
[00:10:35] Speaker A: He's at the casino. Yeah, he's at the casino, and there's a dude who's got, like, his. One of his powers. He' Got like whip. Like whip power, right?
[00:10:44] Speaker B: Was his name like Whiplash?
[00:10:46] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: Was it?
[00:10:47] Speaker A: And yeah, it was Whiplash.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: Was it really? Yeah, I don't remember. But yeah, these are marvel.
[00:10:52] Speaker A: Yeah, it's. It's. He's going up against Whip Flash, which. Who use an iron in another Iron man movie.
[00:10:58] Speaker B: Did they use him in the Iron Claw? Because I heard that was a really uplifting movie.
[00:11:02] Speaker A: It was an uplifting movie. Family.
[00:11:05] Speaker B: Oh, geez. Yeah. Why did I. Why do I even speak here's. Well, anyways.
[00:11:12] Speaker A: Well, it's.
[00:11:13] Speaker B: And so is Black Guard.
Now, I would just say we're not going to be able to show you pictures today because we are on the tablet. My Booster Gold number one's at the house.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: Flip this thing around. It's going to just do that. That thing where it just dances and stuff.
[00:11:26] Speaker B: Well, I had my. I have my Booster Gold number one sitting in like Myar Snuggies because, you know, Booster Gold's first appearance when his movie hits, man, that is gonna be awesome.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: But hot commodity.
[00:11:39] Speaker B: That's right. I'm. You hold on.
You hold on. I've been holding on to these Booster Gold books forever.
[00:11:46] Speaker A: I bet you have.
[00:11:47] Speaker B: Yeah. And I mean, looking for that hot commodity.
[00:11:49] Speaker A: It's.
[00:11:50] Speaker B: Yeah, it's number one. They're hot. They're hot. Hot. Well, hot like Booster Gold.
Do you know who is not a Booster Gold fan? Who is it Paul Travis Webb.
[00:12:00] Speaker A: Oh, Travis is not. I'm. You know, that's funny because I.
[00:12:04] Speaker B: Because he acts like Booster Gold.
[00:12:06] Speaker A: He. And I.
I.
I'm just gonna say Starlight fans, if you are also a Booster Gold fan, you're really gonna love something that's gonna happen later on.
[00:12:17] Speaker B: If you are a Legion of Superheroes fan. Oh, yeah. From the Silver Age. You're gonna love a story. And Bronze Age.
[00:12:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:24] Speaker B: Yeah. It kind of went silver bronze, didn't it?
[00:12:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:27] Speaker B: Hey, I wrote a story.
[00:12:28] Speaker A: Dan wrote a story. Everyone.
[00:12:30] Speaker B: It's gonna be in. There's no art yet or anything, but it'll get there.
[00:12:33] Speaker A: Anyway, I. I ran some edits on it. It's pretty good.
[00:12:35] Speaker B: It's gonna be a Starlight anthology. I'm gonna be in it. It's gonna be great. Well, anyway, Booster Gold number one, we're not supposed to be doing plugs right now. Booster Gold versus Blackguard. Now, one of the things that is concerning about Blackguards outfit is there is no black.
[00:12:51] Speaker A: No, it's like gray and green and purple.
[00:12:57] Speaker B: It's.
[00:12:57] Speaker A: It throws you off.
[00:12:59] Speaker B: Yeah. It's a little confusing.
[00:13:00] Speaker A: It is confusing, but that's what brings the darkness, Dan.
[00:13:04] Speaker B: But we start out the first issue excitement. Booster Gold Comics, newest and most unusual superhero in sensation.
A new superhero. Right. And did you know in Canada this book cost 95 cent or 90 cents? Dang.
In the UK it costs 35 pence.
[00:13:24] Speaker A: Oh, okay.
[00:13:25] Speaker B: And in America it cost 75 cents.
[00:13:28] Speaker A: In February it was 86.
[00:13:29] Speaker B: Well, it was actually November of 85. Oh, cover dates and all. Yeah, it was approved by the comics.
[00:13:37] Speaker A: Authority, though, you know, in February it was.
[00:13:39] Speaker B: See if it says right here. 1935 to 1985, DC's 50th. Yeah. Yeah. It is kind of misleading to put 86 up here and then 85 down here.
[00:13:49] Speaker A: But you could get a get in in February for a full 86.
[00:13:53] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm still trying to figure out how DC Comics was 50 years old.
[00:13:58] Speaker A: It's old.
[00:13:59] Speaker B: That was pre 35. Would have been pre Superman. Pre, like pre tip.
[00:14:05] Speaker A: Pre tested.
[00:14:06] Speaker B: But what is Booster.
Well, let's go anyway. Booster Gold versus Blackout in the fight to the finish. But whose finish is it? My guess is that in the first appearance of the first issue of a superhero comic, Booster's going to die. He's done.
[00:14:25] Speaker A: Oh, man, he's so. First issue, he's going out. First mission and he gets chop chopped. Well, I mean, we.
[00:14:36] Speaker B: We start the issue with a young Gregory Smith.
[00:14:39] Speaker A: Oh, hey.
[00:14:40] Speaker B: Working for a comics publisher. Yeah.
Trying to figure out what's happening here.
[00:14:45] Speaker A: The next. The next best thing.
[00:14:46] Speaker B: What is going to be the next big thing.
[00:14:48] Speaker A: I mean, like, everybody loves Astro Teens.
[00:14:51] Speaker B: Yeah. Astro Teens was fantastic. Yeah. I loved Astro teams. Yeah, they're great. Astro Teens sounds mildly like something you buy at the drugstore.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: Does.
[00:15:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
Or something the police might raid your phone for.
[00:15:08] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:15:09] Speaker B: It doesn't.
I can see why Astro Teens was not a good idea. No, it seems like a terrible idea.
Yeah, it does not seem like a good idea.
I mean, I could go darker there, but let's not. So we have.
What is this guy's name? Do we even know his name? Here.
[00:15:30] Speaker A: He comes back up.
[00:15:32] Speaker B: His name is the Brain.
[00:15:33] Speaker A: No, when. When he talks. When he. When he talks to Boosters agent. He's got a name.
[00:15:41] Speaker B: He's got a name.
[00:15:42] Speaker A: He's got a name. But he's got no need for a.
[00:15:44] Speaker B: Name now in Fight Club.
Yeah, there we go. All right. And.
Well, anyway, he sees a headline about Booster Gold in the Daily Planet. Yeah. And right below it says super who by Lois Lane. I don't think anything derogatory.
[00:16:02] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, I know.
[00:16:05] Speaker B: Well, anyway, we get to a next page and we see a super hot blonde male human doing his workout, running with a guy. Yeah, yeah. And they're just going off. So it's 2.5 million for the Booster Gold most in motion picture, 5 million for the sequel. Like, who is this guy? How is he always get. Already getting like movie deals and stuff?
[00:16:28] Speaker A: He's just got it.
[00:16:29] Speaker B: Has he been around?
[00:16:31] Speaker A: I guess so, man. He's already. He's. He's hot. He's popping.
[00:16:34] Speaker B: While the crisis was happening right now.
[00:16:36] Speaker A: Is everyone else is busy doing things.
[00:16:40] Speaker B: He post crisis or pre crisis?
[00:16:42] Speaker A: He's pretty like pre toasted bagels.
[00:16:44] Speaker B: I don't think he was pre sliced. No, I think he's post pre slices. I think he's pre. Post toasty.
[00:16:49] Speaker A: Pre crisis.
[00:16:50] Speaker B: What?
[00:16:51] Speaker A: Pre crisis slices?
[00:16:52] Speaker B: No, post crisis slices. Post crisis slices, maybe post toast your crisis.
[00:16:57] Speaker A: Post toast your crisis slices, maybe.
[00:16:59] Speaker B: Well, anyway, they needed some DC needed some new blood here. Yeah. And. And we got. We got two. We got. There was more than two series, but we got two big series coming out of crisis, you know, Booster Gold and.
Huh. Huh, Huh.
[00:17:14] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:17:15] Speaker B: You don't know?
[00:17:15] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:17:16] Speaker B: Well, who's. Oh, who's your favorite friend of Booster Gold? The Blue Beetle. Yeah.
[00:17:23] Speaker A: Oh, okay, so you got that.
[00:17:24] Speaker B: But in this. In the series, they did not interact at all.
They just started interacting till later.
Anyway, we get. You drive a hard bargain here. We get a splash page, we find out that Booster Gold and they talk or organize. They're setting up sequels, and we get a. We get a title called the Big Fall. That doesn't sound good.
[00:17:44] Speaker A: So he's just making luchador movies essentially. Sure, yeah. I mean, he's just like. I mean, like they're.
[00:17:50] Speaker B: El Santo. Yeah, yeah.
[00:17:51] Speaker A: He's like El Santo of comics, of superheroes. He's. He's setting up all these. All these plans for movies and sequels and prequels and all these other things.
[00:18:02] Speaker B: He's gonna have like El Oro Day Booster.
[00:18:07] Speaker A: El Oro Day Booster. And then now he needs his. That's why he has the Blue Beetle.
[00:18:11] Speaker B: His Blue demon listeners, if you know the Spanish word for Booster, you can message us at.
Well, on Facebook. Oh, yeah, Facebook. I guess we're still on X, unfortunately. We Blue sky this guy.
[00:18:27] Speaker A: Yeah. Which is turning into Next, unfortunately.
[00:18:30] Speaker B: Well, Instagram, it's shining at me, you know. Oh, Instagram. Yeah. Tell us how to say Booster in Spanish. I have no idea. All right, well, Anyway, we find out this is. Tell me. Created, plotted and written by Dan Jurgens.
He drew it.
[00:18:47] Speaker A: Oh, jeans. Yeah, yeah.
[00:18:48] Speaker B: Inked by Mike DeCarlo.
[00:18:50] Speaker A: Uhuh.
[00:18:51] Speaker B: Mr. Very. Mike DiCarlo has very light inks, as you can tell. Extreme. They're, they're, they're not, they're. I was joking. Yeah. They're colored by Tom Zuko.
[00:19:04] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:19:04] Speaker B: Lettered by Augustine. I didn't know this letter. Augustin Hoss. And edited by Janice Race. So.
All right, well, here we go.
So we start off this whole comic with this guy in a blue and gold suit with a cape.
[00:19:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:22] Speaker B: And Gambit showed up from the X Men. Yeah. And in the background with a crop top.
And we get to see Booster Gold. He talks to some lady named Jan. He's just rolling through and now he wants to be a senator, I guess.
[00:19:43] Speaker A: No, the senator is trying to talk to him and he's like. And he keeps like, messing up his name, calling him Buster.
[00:19:50] Speaker B: Oh, that's right. Yeah.
[00:19:52] Speaker A: He's like, Senator is Booster. I keep telling you the name's not.
[00:19:59] Speaker B: I thought it was Buster Douglas.
[00:20:02] Speaker A: It's Booster Gold.
[00:20:03] Speaker B: You know who Buster Douglas is?
[00:20:05] Speaker A: I know.
[00:20:05] Speaker B: Okay. I'm just making sure.
[00:20:06] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:20:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Famous for fighting against Mike Tyson.
[00:20:10] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:20:10] Speaker B: And knocking him out.
[00:20:11] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:20:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Yes in Japan.
[00:20:13] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:20:14] Speaker B: In Tokyo, I believe. Yeah. It. It all ties back.
[00:20:17] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:20:17] Speaker B: So now we.
Jan gets Booster Gold a drink. He leaves. He's got this. I don't remember this cape. Persisting. This cape didn't last long.
[00:20:28] Speaker A: It didn't last long. I mean, well, it's, it's cool and everything like that, but I mean, does he really need it?
[00:20:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Basically, in a nutshell, the first couple pages is Booster Gold schmoozing.
[00:20:38] Speaker A: Schmoozing.
[00:20:38] Speaker B: He's rubbing elbows, getting contracts.
[00:20:40] Speaker A: He's getting contracts. He's talking to people. He's talking to all the. The population, ephemeral pop. Pop stars and other people.
[00:20:48] Speaker B: And then we get introduced to Skeets.
[00:20:50] Speaker A: Oh, no, Skeets.
[00:20:53] Speaker B: Look, Skeets is like. Skeets is, Is basically Booster Gold if you don't know AI.
[00:20:58] Speaker A: And telling them like, hey, Booster, you're messing up. Yeah.
[00:21:02] Speaker B: So we don't know where Booster's from yet, but Skeets is like, hey, shake a leg means hurry up. He doesn't know what these basic phrases are. It's kind of interesting.
[00:21:09] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:11] Speaker B: And Booster's like. Booster's kind of mean to Skis.
He's not very nice to him.
[00:21:17] Speaker A: He's not.
[00:21:18] Speaker B: Yeah. So, for example, Skeet Says very little. You were supposed to familiarize yourself with the language and customs here. And it seems some instructional reinforcement may be in order.
[00:21:29] Speaker A: No, he needs to relearn.
[00:21:31] Speaker B: And Booster Gold goes, shut up or I'll turn you into a toaster. See, he's kind of a jerk. He does want to pre toast. He's always been thinking about all about.
[00:21:38] Speaker A: He's all about the toasting boosters about toasting people.
[00:21:41] Speaker B: But Skeet Strikes Back is like, yeah, you hardly have the scientific knowledge to do that.
[00:21:46] Speaker A: So he needs a friend who can do it.
[00:21:48] Speaker B: Here's what we know so far. Booster Gold is a person.
[00:21:52] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:52] Speaker B: He's apparently become famous very quickly.
[00:21:54] Speaker A: Oh yeah.
[00:21:55] Speaker B: And he's being made fun of by his robot partner. And he doesn't know the customs of the area. Okay. Interesting. I wonder. Well, where do you think he came from?
[00:22:04] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:22:04] Speaker B: Oh, we don't know yet. I mean, we do know he's Cotton Eye Joe.
[00:22:07] Speaker A: We don't know where he's from. We don't know where he goes.
[00:22:09] Speaker B: Well, we, we meet now we meet the crew at Gold Star and we meet.
I even forget the guy's name.
[00:22:16] Speaker A: It's the guy that, yeah, he's like.
[00:22:19] Speaker B: The agent, the talent agent guy. And then we meet Trixie, who is.
[00:22:23] Speaker A: The, the, the, she's, well, she's the receptionist.
[00:22:27] Speaker B: She also runs the plate. Well, right now she's the receptionist.
Anyway, she's supposed to find Booster and talk to him and we don't like this agent guy. He's. He's kind of a jerk and he's sexist and. Oh yeah, he's a lot of things.
I, I, any. Well, we can get on to that character later.
Anyway, we've Boosters reaching out. Calling from his car phone.
[00:22:53] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, he's car phone folks.
[00:22:54] Speaker B: Of course he does. I mean, he's rich.
[00:22:56] Speaker A: He's Mr. Gold, of course, and got.
[00:22:59] Speaker B: It all palm and he. Anyway, he asked if Trixie has gotten in touch with the, with the Justice League of America so he could join.
[00:23:08] Speaker A: He wants to join. He needs that membership. He's got the. He's ordered.
[00:23:11] Speaker B: No, he said he should be the chairman.
[00:23:13] Speaker A: Oh, see, he needs.
[00:23:14] Speaker B: Yeah, he's, you see, he's sexist.
[00:23:16] Speaker A: Oh, sure. Person. Well, it's not, it's not a thing. They didn't. And not at this time.
[00:23:22] Speaker B: Are you sure?
[00:23:23] Speaker A: I don't think they, I don't think they started using that terminology until like 1990.
[00:23:27] Speaker B: Really. So do you think they called the WASP at the chair?
Man, of the Avengers?
[00:23:36] Speaker A: I don't know. I'm pretty sure the, I'm pretty sure.
[00:23:39] Speaker B: They, it could have happened.
[00:23:42] Speaker A: I'm.
[00:23:42] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Well, anyway, Booster, Booster's car gets smashed.
A giant red thing. Yeah, yeah.
And he's pulling everybody out of the car and he starts flying after the giant red car.
[00:23:58] Speaker A: Get that thing.
[00:24:01] Speaker B: And he keeps messing things up.
[00:24:05] Speaker A: Letting him know.
[00:24:06] Speaker B: Yeah, he says, let's go, Skeets. We'll head those Turkers.
Now, is that like an Ottoman Turk thing? Is that.
[00:24:12] Speaker A: I think it means turkeys.
[00:24:14] Speaker B: Well, that's what Skeets told him. Yeah, but is the Turk now, is Turkers a reference to something? I don't know, I, I, I think.
[00:24:21] Speaker A: He, I think he's just like.
[00:24:23] Speaker B: Yeah, he's just not very smart.
[00:24:25] Speaker A: I think he meant to say turkeys and just Turkers. But yeah, it could be like, like, like, yeah, like Turks.
[00:24:32] Speaker B: Okay, well anyway, much like the record room tonight at the Retro Emporium. Yeah, everything gets smashed up.
[00:24:40] Speaker A: Everything. Yes, everything's all out of sorts.
[00:24:43] Speaker B: Yeah, and so far Booster's doing good. He's saving people. People think he's Superman, apparently.
[00:24:49] Speaker A: Oh yeah, it's Superman. Thank you.
[00:24:51] Speaker B: Yeah, well, it is Metropolis. Where is Superman by the way? Is he off dealing with a crisis?
[00:24:57] Speaker A: He could be dealing with a crisis or he's just hanging out at the farm.
[00:25:01] Speaker B: Maybe he's left in abandoned Metropolis.
[00:25:03] Speaker A: He's gone. He's doing other stuff. I mean, who knows? Maybe he went back to, you know, wanted to just go be him.
[00:25:12] Speaker B: Maybe he went back to his home plant.
[00:25:17] Speaker A: Why would you say such a thing?
[00:25:19] Speaker B: I don't know. We've been on a roll with that tonight. So. Link, it's, it's all. Well, yeah, anyway, Booster Gold walks in and all of these people in Superman.
[00:25:27] Speaker A: And we don't have Superman at all.
[00:25:29] Speaker B: We have. Who, who are these guys? Oh, sorry, I moved on. What?
[00:25:33] Speaker A: That's it? We mean, we don't have Superman. We have somebody from Bradbury County.
[00:25:38] Speaker B: All names.
Also, maybe we have a Snorlax.
[00:25:43] Speaker A: Snorlax?
[00:25:45] Speaker B: Yeah, it's right there. Yeah, well, anyways, getting shot by a bunch of people in green and orange suits.
[00:25:52] Speaker A: Yeah, it's not doing nothing to Booster.
[00:25:54] Speaker B: Cuz he's in penetrable, I guess. I mean, he apparently appears to have some sort of force field. I wonder where he'd get a force field from. I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, it's, it seems familiar to me. Like I've seen a force field like that.
[00:26:07] Speaker A: Before, who would have seen Thing?
[00:26:08] Speaker B: Who has. Who makes force fields? I don't know, Like.
Well, anyway, Skeets is shooting them from the rear, he says, and Booster's going from the front, and they're taking out a bunch of these guys, and it looks like they're. They're doing a good job.
Oh, but then.
[00:26:28] Speaker A: Oh, no.
[00:26:29] Speaker B: The Teal and Silver Guard appears.
[00:26:33] Speaker A: No, no. He says he's got a different name, Dan.
He calls himself the Black Guard.
[00:26:40] Speaker B: Oh, no. He says, specifically, I'm Black Guard squirt.
[00:26:44] Speaker A: Oh. Oh, yes.
[00:26:45] Speaker B: And as of now, you are a dead man. I believe that's. I mean, honestly, if you wore this suit, that's probably the language that you would use.
[00:26:53] Speaker A: Yeah, probably. Yeah, dad, I'm not even sick.
[00:26:57] Speaker B: Wow. I mean, black. Black Guard was so good. He scared something off the wall.
Yeah. So.
Well, anyway, he's like, I'll get you. And Booster's like, don't worry, Skeets. This guy is nothing. He's like, nothing. I'll show you. The banter here is.
[00:27:16] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:27:16] Speaker B: Is amazing.
[00:27:17] Speaker A: It is top notch banter, folks.
[00:27:19] Speaker B: This is first issue banter.
[00:27:21] Speaker A: Oh, so good.
[00:27:22] Speaker B: I wonder superhero. I. I just want everybody to know, first off, before we get too far into this, I love Dan Jurgens.
[00:27:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:31] Speaker B: Yeah. So much that I had him draw me a wildfire. And I paid lot of money for it. You did a lot. A lot of money for it.
He is an incredibly nice man. Yeah.
He's done great things in comics and. And this.
[00:27:50] Speaker A: Fantastic.
[00:27:51] Speaker B: Now, I'm. I'm certainly glad he created Booster Gold.
[00:27:54] Speaker A: This is. This is the.
[00:27:55] Speaker B: And the Booster Girl series later. He did really well with I.
[00:27:58] Speaker A: This. This is. This is exactly what I need in a comic book.
[00:28:03] Speaker B: Well, anyway, we flip a page and all of a sudden they're fighting.
[00:28:09] Speaker A: Oh, they are fighting there.
[00:28:10] Speaker B: And all of a sudden, Black Guard is now the Green Lantern.
[00:28:13] Speaker A: You got Zoops and Zeeps and ths.
[00:28:17] Speaker B: Wait, how did he become the Green Lantern?
[00:28:18] Speaker A: I don't know. Well, he's got like a energy mace.
[00:28:22] Speaker B: And an energy shield.
[00:28:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:24] Speaker B: Now, are they black?
[00:28:25] Speaker A: No, they're green.
[00:28:27] Speaker B: So.
[00:28:27] Speaker A: Oh, what?
Come on.
[00:28:31] Speaker B: Like, so why is this guy's name Black Guard? Because why isn't he Green Guard or Teal Guard or Chartreuse Guard or Gray Guard or Silver Guard?
[00:28:44] Speaker A: Although they're good questions, I think.
[00:28:47] Speaker B: Or lame guard.
[00:28:48] Speaker A: Oh, it could be armed guard.
[00:28:52] Speaker B: Armed guard? Yeah.
[00:28:55] Speaker A: Disarmed guard.
[00:28:56] Speaker B: I know.
Mall security guard.
[00:28:59] Speaker A: Oh, Paul Blart.
[00:29:01] Speaker B: Paul Blart, mall cop. He was in a mall Security guard. He was a mall cop. Mall cop is different.
[00:29:08] Speaker A: Slightly different, but not so like this.
[00:29:09] Speaker B: Andy. Okay, Richard, what's. Oh, wait. Not funny.
[00:29:13] Speaker A: No, no, no.
I hate to be tickled with left. That's what he's.
[00:29:20] Speaker B: How he does say that when he gets zapped by Booster, he has a problem. He doesn't like tickling.
[00:29:25] Speaker A: He doesn't like tickling. He doesn't want to. He doesn't want to play.
[00:29:29] Speaker B: He has a weird face.
[00:29:30] Speaker A: He does a weird face.
Well, maybe he's got like the cherub.
[00:29:34] Speaker B: He's got.
[00:29:35] Speaker A: He's like a cherub person.
[00:29:37] Speaker B: Well, we flipped the page and. And we get some B plot here. Oh, yeah. Travis taught me that. You never talked about that.
Travis taught me that.
[00:29:44] Speaker A: Oh, well, that's. It's because I taught dramas that.
[00:29:47] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, yeah. Well, you know, if you taught me about writing, I'd understeed, but Travis taught me.
Yeah, you see that? So, B plot.
[00:29:56] Speaker A: Yes, yes. There's the B plot in which the story.
[00:29:59] Speaker B: Actually, this might be C plot.
B plots, like the talent agency, right? Yeah.
[00:30:05] Speaker A: B plot. Be the talent agency.
[00:30:06] Speaker B: This is somebody like. Well, anyway, meanwhile, at one of the most exclusive offices. Resident.
I can't even read this.
Meanwhile, at one of the most exclusive office and residential buildings in Metropolis. You know, I believe you need a meanwhile to get people excited about going to a residential building. Right. That's very exciting.
[00:30:25] Speaker A: Oh, yes.
[00:30:27] Speaker B: Come on. Come in, Myron. I take it you have news for me. Yes, sir, I do. Well, speak up then.
Greg is yawning again. And tired.
He says, jan, our operative in the health club obtained a glass with the gold fingerprints on it. I don't remember Booster Gold taking off his little gloves.
[00:30:45] Speaker A: He. Well, he didn't have any gloves on.
[00:30:47] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. He was running around with his red shorts.
He was looking awesome.
He was posing for Play Girl. Yeah, it was.
[00:30:56] Speaker A: And so they're trying to find out who he is.
[00:30:59] Speaker B: They were trying to get him on a bear skin.
[00:31:01] Speaker A: Boosted his fingerprint.
[00:31:03] Speaker B: They boosted his gold. Yeah, yeah.
[00:31:05] Speaker A: Trying to boost his gold.
[00:31:06] Speaker B: They were trying to get him on a bear skin rock.
[00:31:07] Speaker A: Bear skin rock.
[00:31:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:09] Speaker A: Get him in the reaper mustache.
[00:31:11] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Mustache. Reaper pose. Yeah. So anyway, you gotta take him to.
[00:31:16] Speaker A: The Sears and Roebuck for the photo.
[00:31:19] Speaker B: Very excited. We. We get one page where we find out they. They took his fingerprints. Okay, cool. All right, we are back to the battle now.
I believe that was the C plot. Yeah, yeah. Is there a C. Is there like a delta plot?
[00:31:31] Speaker A: C, D, E, F, G. Is there a Delta plot. Yeah, sure.
[00:31:34] Speaker B: Delta plot.
Contra plot.
Okay, anyway, blackguard lifts up a car, throws some faster gold. He uses some sort of.
Hey, there.
[00:31:47] Speaker A: His phone on. Oh, wow.
[00:31:49] Speaker B: My phone's recording.
[00:31:50] Speaker A: We had this whole thing where my phone was a problem.
[00:31:52] Speaker B: Maybe my phone is not recording. Oh, no, that's scary.
[00:31:56] Speaker A: That is scary.
[00:31:57] Speaker B: So hold please. We're going to very professionally check the recording right now.
Oh yeah, we are definitely recording.
[00:32:04] Speaker A: Okay, that's good.
[00:32:06] Speaker B: We're leaving that in.
Very, extremely professional.
[00:32:10] Speaker A: I love it.
[00:32:10] Speaker B: I love it. Hey, look, we're trying something new. We check things out. I, I, I conveniently thought the phone would not make noises while it was recording of things that seem to make sense. But then it does.
[00:32:21] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:32:22] Speaker B: Just like Booster Gold. I don't know how to use technology at all.
[00:32:25] Speaker A: No.
[00:32:25] Speaker B: So we have this car happening and it goes. And then he gets hit. He gets hit with it. He gets hit by a tire. Oh, that's what killed Ned Flanders.
[00:32:37] Speaker A: Ned Flanners got killed by tire. Yeah, Ned Flanders.
[00:32:40] Speaker B: I think he may have came back, but.
[00:32:42] Speaker A: Oh, I know he got hit by.
[00:32:43] Speaker B: A tire at the rate. Oh no, that was. It wasn't Ned. You're right. It's Mod Flanders.
I got shot by a T shirt.
[00:32:49] Speaker A: Gun fired by Homer Simpson. Homer Simpson killed his.
[00:32:52] Speaker B: I thought she got hit by a tire at the races.
[00:32:54] Speaker A: Oh, well, that might also happen. Maybe we're living in two different realities.
[00:32:58] Speaker B: In which your reality I probably just don't remember. It's been a long time since I've watched the Simpsons, so.
[00:33:05] Speaker A: Okay, here's the question. If you remember Mod Flanders dying.
[00:33:10] Speaker B: No, no. The question was a limited series that came out like three years later.
[00:33:14] Speaker A: That's true.
[00:33:14] Speaker B: It was written by Denny o'. Neill.
[00:33:17] Speaker A: Very true, very true. Mod Flanders. Did she die by a tire thrown from the derby that Homer Simpson was driving in the Demolition Derby in Springfield? Or was he firing a T shirt cannon gun into the crowd at a game?
Which memory do you remember?
[00:33:38] Speaker B: Ah, Ned Flanders opened the left handed only store.
[00:33:43] Speaker A: That is true.
[00:33:43] Speaker B: Okay, see, I know things. All right, so Booster Gold gets overconfident. He randomly gets hit by a tire on accident, takes him down. Don't know why his force field isn't up.
Yeah. Now Jimmy Olsen's here reporting.
[00:33:57] Speaker A: Oh my goodness. Our old friend Jimmy Olsen.
[00:34:01] Speaker B: Yeah, Jimmy Olsen survived the. The Harry's.
[00:34:03] Speaker A: He survived the Harry's. He became a man.
[00:34:06] Speaker B: No, he doesn't look like a man.
[00:34:08] Speaker A: He's more of a man than he was when he was a boy.
[00:34:10] Speaker B: You say twink Probably.
[00:34:12] Speaker A: He's, he's. Yeah, he's out there reporting and doing that hard hitting.
[00:34:17] Speaker B: He looks like he needs to put on some sunscreen.
[00:34:19] Speaker A: He does.
[00:34:20] Speaker B: Yeah, he's got the.
[00:34:21] Speaker A: That's going to look real bad later on, and he's probably going to try. All that stress is going to give him a streak of a shock of white hair right there in the well.
[00:34:28] Speaker B: Black Guard is using his Green Energy weapons.
[00:34:31] Speaker A: Green Weapons.
[00:34:32] Speaker B: The Green Guard.
[00:34:33] Speaker A: The green.
[00:34:34] Speaker B: Known as the Green Guard. The Green Guard weapons.
[00:34:37] Speaker A: Green Guardian.
[00:34:38] Speaker B: And he starts beating the hell out of Booster.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. Boosters just.
[00:34:42] Speaker B: And now Booster's, like, lamenting, oh, Skeets was right. This guy is dangerous. You should always listen to Skeets. I mean, rule number one, listen to Skeets.
[00:34:51] Speaker A: Skeet says it.
[00:34:52] Speaker B: It's probably true. If I keep getting kicked around on TV, my career is going to be over in about 10 minutes. Oh, this is what Booster cares about, his career.
[00:35:00] Speaker A: Career. Yeah.
[00:35:01] Speaker B: And I do, too. I mean, you do, too. Like, a lot of us care about our careers. You know, it's, it's, it's what we think about these days.
Well, life's too short. He calls out for Skeets, and Skeets like, yes, Booster. And he's like Buzz Blackguard a couple times to distract him. So, as usual, Skeets saves Booster Gold because that's probably what should happen every time, even though it's the first issue and we would never know that happens.
And then Booster flies by and. And Blackguard's like, I'll catch you by running on the ground while you're flying.
This guy sucks.
[00:35:34] Speaker A: He looks like. Okay, so people that can't see this, obviously, Blackguard looks like, like a warhammer. 30K space marine.
Honest.
[00:35:43] Speaker B: He looks like. He looks like Cable.
[00:35:46] Speaker A: Oh, he does.
Oh, my God. Alfred Cable.
[00:35:50] Speaker B: Maybe. Table is off brand. Blackguard.
Blackguard clearly came out, like four years before. No longer. Not like five or six tables.
[00:35:59] Speaker A: A rip off of Black Guard.
[00:36:00] Speaker B: It feels like it.
[00:36:02] Speaker A: That's.
[00:36:02] Speaker B: I mean, look at the shoulder pads on this from 1985 for. This is a lot of shoulder pads.
[00:36:08] Speaker A: That's true.
[00:36:09] Speaker B: Shoulder pads weren't really in vogue until the later in the 90s.
[00:36:12] Speaker A: Yeah, he is before his time, cutting edge. A lot of.
[00:36:15] Speaker B: Lot of shoulder pads. Yeah, it's. It's very blocky.
[00:36:19] Speaker A: Very blocky. Well, more pouches.
[00:36:22] Speaker B: Anyway, we get some more fighting and Blackguard yells, you're an idiot, Hero man.
[00:36:28] Speaker A: Oh, hero man. That's. I want a name. I want to be a superhero. Called Hero Man.
[00:36:33] Speaker B: Well, blackguard gets lured into a high voltage box and zapped.
[00:36:38] Speaker A: Oh, that is a epic.
[00:36:41] Speaker B: And wish. And he strangely lives.
[00:36:44] Speaker A: I mean the Black Guard.
[00:36:46] Speaker B: Well, we get back to the talent agency and we find out what's up. The awesome guys like Leo. Baby. I guess not. Leo Dinardo DiCaprio. Right? That's pre. That Pre. Yeah, that's very pre. Pre. Toast.
He was. He was. I don't. Was he. Was he even toasted?
[00:37:01] Speaker A: He was not toasted at that point.
[00:37:03] Speaker B: I don't know if he was even toasted.
[00:37:04] Speaker A: He was. He wasn't even. Yeah, no, he wasn't even sliced.
[00:37:07] Speaker B: Was he eating grapes?
[00:37:08] Speaker A: Oh, no, definitely not. Gilbert Grapes. No, he wasn't even.
[00:37:11] Speaker B: There was.
[00:37:12] Speaker A: He wasn't even. To be like. He wasn't even. He was having. He wasn't even having growing pains at that time yet.
[00:37:17] Speaker B: Oh, that's true.
Or was he. He might.
[00:37:21] Speaker A: No, no, not before.
[00:37:22] Speaker B: No. Okay.
[00:37:23] Speaker A: He wasn't even a. He wasn't even like brought in as the. The.
[00:37:27] Speaker B: I try to. I. I hate that you brought up growing Pains because I try to wash the Camerons out of my memory and brain forever. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that.
Well, anyway, the agent's like, give Booster a super car. Talk about these things.
Chow and Trixie does not seem very interested in what this guy. He just brings him some messages.
[00:37:48] Speaker A: Who's this stuff?
[00:37:49] Speaker B: This guy's name is Dirk Davis.
[00:37:51] Speaker A: Dirk Davis, the devil.
[00:37:53] Speaker B: And it says, in case you hadn't guessed, Dirk Davis is Booster Gold's agent. Okay.
[00:37:58] Speaker A: Ah, yes.
Dirt Davis.
[00:38:01] Speaker B: Dirk.
[00:38:01] Speaker A: He's the dirt.
[00:38:02] Speaker B: No, he's dirt. He's not the dirt.
[00:38:04] Speaker A: He's Dirt Davis.
[00:38:05] Speaker B: No, don't get it. Don't get us sued by another partner.
[00:38:08] Speaker A: I didn't. I didn't go off on that. I just called him.
[00:38:10] Speaker B: Don't call him the Dirt.
[00:38:11] Speaker A: I just. He was like.
[00:38:12] Speaker B: King Falls AM does not need to come after our podcast. I'm sorry. We love you. Bring back more. Okay. Do something again. We like you like. I. It's probably done at this point, but that's what.
[00:38:22] Speaker A: That's why. That's why he thinks he's a superhero. Because he was. He was the agent of a superhero.
[00:38:28] Speaker B: Report and start a new story. We like you like. I hope you all are doing okay. Yeah, honestly.
[00:38:33] Speaker A: That's true. Yeah, that's true.
[00:38:35] Speaker B: And if you all didn't like it and thought it was like bad for gay people to listen to that show, well, I'm. I thought it was fine.
[00:38:42] Speaker A: It was a good show.
[00:38:43] Speaker B: There was some controversy, I guess.
[00:38:44] Speaker A: Oh, really?
[00:38:45] Speaker B: Yeah, Thought it was bad portrayals. I don't know, like, I don't get it.
Anyway, it's.
Anyway, back on track.
So this guy comes in to see Booster Gold.
[00:39:01] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:39:02] Speaker B: And he starts calling Trixie toots and all sorts of things. His name is M. Mr. Wright. Anyway, there's a cat there, he doesn't like cats.
[00:39:09] Speaker A: Oh, man, this guy's a terrible.
[00:39:11] Speaker B: People that don't like animals. Yeah, yeah.
[00:39:15] Speaker A: Anyway, Trixie has a few words for him.
[00:39:18] Speaker B: Well, she takes charge and makes him apologize to the cat. Basically tells him he won't get anything unless he does what she says. He calms down a little bit and anyway, and then she phones it through to Mr. To Dirk Davis here. A call from Mr. Andrews. And this time we get the comic book guy.
[00:39:41] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:39:42] Speaker B: So we're back. The other guy doesn't get his way at all. We get Skip Andrews and he's like, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna rap right now. I'll have a. Money making.
I. I'm Skip Andrews from Blaze Comic Books and I've got a real money making offer for you, as we know. Yeah, a real money making offer is writing and drawing comic books.
[00:40:02] Speaker A: Heck yeah.
[00:40:03] Speaker B: That's where the money is.
[00:40:04] Speaker A: You're never gonna, you're.
[00:40:06] Speaker B: It's, it's.
[00:40:06] Speaker A: You're never gonna get rich, richer, faster if you're not writing and drawing your own comics.
[00:40:12] Speaker B: Unless you're right. Unless you're Robert Kirkman, I mean.
[00:40:14] Speaker A: Well, he wasn't drawing.
[00:40:16] Speaker B: That's true. He was just writing.
[00:40:17] Speaker A: He's just writing. And then he was.
[00:40:19] Speaker B: He's a jerk.
[00:40:20] Speaker A: I'm. I say nothing.
[00:40:22] Speaker B: He's a jerk now.
He really is a jerk now. Before, was he? Yeah, I mean, but I didn't know him at all. I mean, I don't know.
[00:40:29] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:40:29] Speaker B: No, I just saw him. I saw we're about to end the story here, but I saw him on just a clip, an Instagram clip, and he's like, yeah, like, who's like, stronger? Like Omni man or like, what's the guy from the Boys, Homelander or Superman? He's like, well, obviously Homelander is weak. Which. Yeah, I mean, yeah, but then he's like. And Superman's lame. Like, why would anybody read Superman? I just know I'm gonna offend all the Superman reader. It's like, dude, you have more money than God. Okay?
Off and quit picking fights with people. Yeah, there's just like, at this point he's Only just being a jerk to stay, you know, keep attention.
[00:41:11] Speaker A: How about.
[00:41:12] Speaker B: How about instead of living off of two properties that you created, create something fudgeing else. Or shut the fuck up because he.
[00:41:19] Speaker A: Just wants to keep.
[00:41:20] Speaker B: This editorial is brought to you by me.
[00:41:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:41:23] Speaker B: Quit breeding toxic fandom. Robert Kirkman. Jesus.
[00:41:27] Speaker A: It's true.
[00:41:28] Speaker B: That's why.
[00:41:28] Speaker A: Just like.
[00:41:29] Speaker B: Anyway, like, I, I just, I, you know, I just couldn't believe that somebody who the industry has given so much to it just stirring up toxic fandom like it just.
Anyway. Okay, back on track. So.
[00:41:43] Speaker A: Boosters flying.
[00:41:44] Speaker B: Booster flying. And he thinks he's one just got the box. Yes.
[00:41:49] Speaker A: Is with him.
[00:41:50] Speaker B: Black Garden is Corona and had just stolen a satellite from STAR Labs. He's bringing it back and he holds. He's talking to Trixie, letting her know what's going on. He says, I'll be in about 20 minutes. Did you get in touch with the JLA yet again? And he holds up his hand and he says and double check with them about my having a Legion flight ring.
[00:42:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:19] Speaker B: Wait, what?
Where would Booster gold.
[00:42:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:24] Speaker B: In 1985 have a get a Legion flight ring?
[00:42:29] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:42:30] Speaker B: From a thousand years in the future.
[00:42:32] Speaker A: Well, I mean, we don't know that.
[00:42:35] Speaker B: We know the Legion is a thousand years in the future. Oh, yeah. That. We do know that. Okay. They have certain. You have read the books. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Leading into Crisis. Well, the Great Darkness saga, which is right before the. Yeah, yeah. Wow. I mean, I guess we don't technically know what's happened to them after the crisis, but yeah, we, we definitely know they have flight rings.
Well, anyway, Booster Gold flies in with this satellite thing that was stolen. He's live on television panning for the Camerons and this, this Dr. Clyburn walks up, Director STAR Labs and goes, you fool, that guidance system is top secret. How dare you make it a media show.
[00:43:14] Speaker A: No, you.
[00:43:19] Speaker B: And anyway, it just, it just turns into a total. Yeah. At this point. This is what it's. Well, it's about to. Yeah.
[00:43:27] Speaker A: Because Booster Gold, as much as we love him, he is a dumbass.
[00:43:32] Speaker B: He's pretty dumb.
[00:43:33] Speaker A: He is. He is a colossal screw up.
He. Well, sometimes 95.
[00:43:41] Speaker B: Anyway, I hate to interrupt the viewers, but something. He saves time. Well, anyway, so I hate to interrupt the viewers, but something strange is happening.
Booster Gold gets hit by stuff. It goes to. Please stand by. We're back on the air. There's infinite attack on STAR Labs and Booster Gold has been knocked out by a per.
I I.
By someone, but yeah, by.
With a We really like the red. The. What is that shark? That. Yeah, yeah. Somebody with the. With markings on the costume is the same color as Blackguard's hair. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And blue.
[00:44:20] Speaker A: Yeah, they got a cool colorings and.
[00:44:24] Speaker B: People are like, man. Booster Gold's paralyzed. He's defeated. Next issue, Booster's mysterious past, the return of an old DC hero, and a flaky serial commercial to boot.
All this for 75 cents and gold redemption. See you there.
So I'll just tell you right now, Greg. Greg is not up on. On Booster Gold right now. In the now. We do have a nice text page we can cover later, by the way, where we get to learn more about the creation. And I love these, by the way.
[00:44:55] Speaker A: Oh, they're good.
[00:44:56] Speaker B: They're. We get a nice text page about how Booster Gold came to be, why it was. So do make sure if you have the actual issue to go ahead and read that.
What I will say is, so Booster Gold is being tied to Legion of Superheroes right now and being tied in Superman. So in D.C. all in.
Basically, Booster Gold gets shuttered off to that new absolute universe kind of thing, and he gets trapped. Nobody knows what happens to him. And so he's there. Anyway, the future's all messed up. The Legion are now the dark side. Legion. Oh, and it's all bad. And Superman goes. And then Superboy prime comes back.
[00:45:37] Speaker A: Oh, no.
[00:45:38] Speaker B: God. Yeah. Or oh, yay. Or oh, God, depending on your perspective.
[00:45:42] Speaker A: Black jacket.
[00:45:44] Speaker B: No, not that Superboy. No, we're talking about the Superboy Prime. The one that was ripping Titan's arms off. Oh, yeah. Oh, that one. Yeah. The one that lives in, like, our universe and reads comic.
It's. Anyway, it's just a. It. It's a thing.
Anyway, but Booster's been involved in all this, and so he was trapped. And. And so Booster Gold is actually doing big things in DC comics right now. So for once, for once, people, we are actually reading a historical book that directly ties to things that are going on right now in comics. What? And.
[00:46:16] Speaker A: And it sounds like he's actually not the big screw up that I love him for, because he's actually probably doing.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And the story is actually still happening, so we didn't actually. I thought this. The story was going to wrap up before we got this started, but it actually started.
[00:46:31] Speaker A: I don't like that. He's doing good stuff.
[00:46:32] Speaker B: Well, he. No, he screwed up. He got trapped. He got trapped somewhere.
Yeah. Great. He had a big, big, nice blonde beard, though.
[00:46:40] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:46:41] Speaker B: Yeah. But he was really Skinny like he never ate. Yeah, it didn't look good for him.
[00:46:45] Speaker A: Bad luck.
[00:46:46] Speaker B: Well, anyway, this was our podcast back from the Retro Emporium on Meeker street in Kent, Washington, where you can smell Froot Loops and relive your childhood. Yeah, we. I'd like to thank Greg for coming back to the podcast today.
[00:47:00] Speaker A: Well, you're welcome. I'm glad I could make an appearance. This is. This is it, though. So Dan will be taking care of the rest of it. Thanks, everybody. Well, next.
[00:47:07] Speaker B: Next week. Next week we'll be covering Booster Gold number two.
[00:47:10] Speaker A: Oh, I guess I'll come back for that one.
[00:47:12] Speaker B: And after we cover Booster Gold number two, we'll cover Booster Gold number three. Gooster Bolder Bold.
[00:47:18] Speaker A: Booster Ball number three.
[00:47:19] Speaker B: Okay, and then. And then her Goose or Bold is.
[00:47:23] Speaker A: Really cool because it's. It's crazy. He's a goose, but he's super bald.
[00:47:27] Speaker B: And he comes around, he's like, yeah, he joined the.
Yeah, he joined with, like, Captain Tera in the Z Group.
[00:47:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:47:35] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. It was amazing that Dan Jurgens team up the Booster Gold, the Gooster Gold, Guster Bolt team up the G. Bold. Team up with the.
[00:47:44] Speaker A: And.
[00:47:46] Speaker B: Well, on that note, there. There are a couple more things to talk about before we go. Obviously, you can still buy Absolute Zeros.
[00:47:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:47:54] Speaker B: Camp Launch Pad.
Anywhere.
[00:47:56] Speaker A: Anywhere you can go down.
[00:47:57] Speaker B: Books are sold. Yeah. And.
And even though it's not summer anymore.
[00:48:01] Speaker A: It'S a great time to read because schools and sessions to learn. It's a. It's a fantastic steam read.
Most steam read, most of the time people are like, steam. What do you mean?
[00:48:14] Speaker B: And like a steam read. I understand. It's not good to read books with steam.
[00:48:18] Speaker A: It's not good to read books with steam.
[00:48:20] Speaker B: Yes. That means that word stem, they get.
[00:48:22] Speaker A: The word stem is usually used for most things, but steam is where you.
[00:48:28] Speaker B: Put the A in there, stem and steam art.
[00:48:31] Speaker A: Because without art, you don't get the creativity.
[00:48:34] Speaker B: It's like a lot of setup.
[00:48:35] Speaker A: It really does, but you don't get the creativity that draws the inspiration.
[00:48:41] Speaker B: And the good news gets all of.
[00:48:42] Speaker A: The other things going.
[00:48:44] Speaker B: And the really great news is I heard that if you were happy you happened to find Greg and were able to buy a copy from him, still back in stock are the CDs that Greg is going to sign and make sure you have with every copy of Absolute Zero's Camp Watchpad.
[00:49:01] Speaker A: Sad news, everybody. They're not in stock anymore. I destroyed them all.
[00:49:04] Speaker B: Why would you destroy such great music as Move to Bremerton Because I got.
[00:49:10] Speaker A: Them and it made me feel really sad this week.
[00:49:12] Speaker B: Week. Move to Brum. Now you're going to guilt me.
[00:49:15] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:49:15] Speaker B: Again.
[00:49:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:49:17] Speaker B: Wow.
Because we'd go, well, anyway, so mxpx, I guess. I guess we're not talking. We're not allowed to talk about MXPX anymore. As we shouldn't. I mean, honestly, nobody should ever be talking about them, ever. Wow. That.
This is going well. Anyway, on that note, we'd also big shout out to Travis for stepping in and helping out with the podcast while Greg was out. And also big shout out to Palmer for stepping in and doing a show for us. Yeah. And also big support for this time from Jiu Jitsu lawyer Paul. So, yeah, if you want to see Jiu Jitsu lawyer Paul, he can.
Not only can he beat them in the courtroom, but he can tap out the other lawyer.
[00:49:59] Speaker A: He can.
[00:50:00] Speaker B: And you can see him on 27th and Jackson, slash Bridgeport and Tacoma, Washington. So if you want to go check out certified martial arts.
[00:50:09] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:50:09] Speaker B: And that's where you find them. You can learn some Jiu Jitsu. You could get some legal services. You could. A lot of things could be going on there.
[00:50:16] Speaker A: All those things and more. I hear if you go and you ask for the super Special, he will scream for 30 minutes.
[00:50:30] Speaker B: I think you messed that up. You have to ask for the Super Saiyan discount.
[00:50:33] Speaker A: Oh, gosh darn it. Ah, ah, ah. Super Saiyan.
[00:50:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:36] Speaker A: Discount. And then he will scream for 30 minutes and then put you in, like, a Shoot the leg.
[00:50:42] Speaker B: He'll scream for 30 minutes. Yeah.
[00:50:46] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:50:47] Speaker B: I don't know. I can't do it. Yeah.
[00:50:48] Speaker A: And then. Yeah, and then. Yeah, and then.
[00:50:55] Speaker B: Would the energy come out of the leg or. Yeah, but why were you holding here then?
[00:50:59] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:50:59] Speaker B: It would be.
[00:51:00] Speaker A: I don't know. I've only seen him do it once.
[00:51:04] Speaker B: Okay. Sweep the leg.
[00:51:05] Speaker A: No, he just like, he just.
[00:51:09] Speaker B: So you can go see Paul if you want that. So.
And we'll be back next week with more exciting Booster Gold action, where we get to learn who the chartreuse and perfect costume lady is and what she's doing and why Booster Gold is immobile. We don't know any of these things yet, but because it was the first issue of Booster Gold, we don't know. We don't know his entire history, and we're not big fans of his, and we haven't read every story with him, so we don't know anything.
[00:51:33] Speaker A: It's a whole.
[00:51:34] Speaker B: Anything can happen. Anything could be there he might be. It said he might die in the.
[00:51:39] Speaker A: First issue it and he didn't yet. We don't know that'd be dead in the second issue.
[00:51:43] Speaker B: Dead on the ground.
[00:51:44] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
[00:51:46] Speaker B: Travesty.
[00:51:47] Speaker A: You know what could happen? Sometimes when you get hurt really bad, you get hurt so bad that, like, your body, like, doesn't hurt. And then all of a sudden you're like.
[00:51:54] Speaker B: And then, like, maybe that's what happened.
[00:51:57] Speaker A: Oh, and then he has to.
[00:51:58] Speaker B: Costume change.
He may need a costume change. He's gonna need Skeets for that because he. Well, on that note, we're out next week. More funny book Forensics. Booster Gold Number 2 from 1985. 6. Read it before we do. Bye.
This is terrifying.
Camera turn off.
Zap. Zap. I don't think it's automatic. Camera off.
