Episode Transcript
[00:00:04] Speaker A: You didn't let me press the button. You said I have all these buttons to press, and you wouldn't even let me press it. Oppressor.
[00:00:10] Speaker B: You're not wearing the correct shirt.
[00:00:12] Speaker A: I doesn't matter.
[00:00:13] Speaker B: I could.
[00:00:14] Speaker A: You gave me buttons to press, and then you took the buttons away.
[00:00:17] Speaker B: Now, if you're wearing the correct shirt, you would have pressed the button.
[00:00:20] Speaker A: That's unfair.
[00:00:23] Speaker B: Well, listen, exiling Squatch, o man from the store, is also.
[00:00:26] Speaker A: I did not exile Squatch, a man from the store. He went on a summer vacation. He will be back.
[00:00:31] Speaker B: Why would he go on a summer vacation?
[00:00:34] Speaker A: Because he needed to go travel around and see all the places that he never gets to see. That's where he went. That's what he does.
[00:00:43] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't believe you.
[00:00:45] Speaker A: You don't believe me? Well, you just wait, Dan. You just wait.
[00:00:51] Speaker B: That's okay. I'm adding a new feature to the podcast.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: What is that, Dan?
[00:00:56] Speaker B: Well, you know how all those people.
[00:00:59] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:00:59] Speaker B: Yes. You know how, like, all those people are always, like, putting on makeup while they're talking to you in those advertisements and stuff? Well, I thought it'd be fun if I put posters inside of frames while we did the podcast, because, like, I mean, people seem to really like all that tactile noise and, like, putting on the makeup and doing your face up. And so I thought, what's more relaxing than putting comic posters into frames?
[00:01:25] Speaker A: Oh, I see. So for the people who are viewing can watch you put posters and frames.
[00:01:29] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:01:30] Speaker A: People that are not watching and just listening get to hear you making all this noise.
[00:01:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:36] Speaker A: Okay. That's going to be enjoyable.
[00:01:38] Speaker B: Isn't that soothing?
[00:01:39] Speaker A: I'm so sorry that you had to listen to them tear plastic off of.
[00:01:43] Speaker B: Isn't that crinkly plastic soothing?
[00:01:45] Speaker A: No. No, it's not.
[00:01:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:51] Speaker A: This is not an ASMR podcast.
We're going to get all these people that are like, oh, hey, this podcast is fantastic.
I like the new feature.
[00:02:03] Speaker B: Oh, I'm sure they're going to love the new feature.
[00:02:05] Speaker A: They're going to love the new feature, Dan. Putting in posters and.
Yeah, it's great.
[00:02:12] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean. Here, do you want me to crinkle the paper, too?
[00:02:15] Speaker A: No.
[00:02:17] Speaker B: These poster frames have a picture of the Eiffel Tower.
[00:02:20] Speaker A: Yeah, I see.
[00:02:21] Speaker B: So if I just wanted to put a bunch of Eiffel Towers around my house, you could.
I took betting the dog's not down there.
[00:02:33] Speaker A: Which of you playing inside the poster? The. The.
[00:02:35] Speaker B: I don't need this part.
[00:02:37] Speaker A: You don't need the posters.
[00:02:38] Speaker B: No, my posters are big enough.
[00:02:39] Speaker A: Oh, I see.
[00:02:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:42] Speaker A: The matting.
[00:02:45] Speaker B: I heard you did.
I heard you did something in the world today that we were supposed to talk about.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: You did something in the world today.
Well, I. I did watch Supergirl finally.
[00:02:56] Speaker B: Oh, what did you think? I thought it was more importantly. Wait, wait, wait. More importantly, I apologize. What did Anne think?
[00:03:04] Speaker A: She thought it was very enjoyable as well.
[00:03:06] Speaker B: Okay, now I want to know what you thought.
[00:03:09] Speaker A: I thought it was very enjoyable. I thought it was good. I. We had a good time watching was.
It was a good movie.
[00:03:19] Speaker B: Did you plan a couple all day?
Oh, how was that noise?
[00:03:24] Speaker A: Oh, that was.
Hated it.
Hated that noise.
Comparatively to the movie, the noise that you just made was a one out of ten. The movie was, I'd say a ten.
Well, nine. I mean, there was some parts that were like. But, you know, overall.
Ah, yes. Tony Della Tree's poster, Superman and Crypto.
[00:03:53] Speaker B: Who wouldn't want a Superman in Crypto poster?
[00:03:55] Speaker A: Who wouldn't. I mean.
[00:03:56] Speaker B: And wouldn't want a Supergirl in Crypto poster.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: Right. I mean, you just got more crypto.
I mean, kind of. You got it.
[00:04:03] Speaker B: Yeah. Don't. Don't spoil it.
[00:04:04] Speaker A: I'm not spoiling it.
[00:04:05] Speaker B: People haven't seen it.
[00:04:06] Speaker A: Yeah, it's.
[00:04:07] Speaker B: It was I.
[00:04:11] Speaker A: For the people that. That are on the fence because. Oh, the. The mixed reviews and stuff like that. Because.
[00:04:17] Speaker B: Didn't like it.
[00:04:17] Speaker A: Yeah. Watch it for you. I mean, I'm sure it was a bunch of bots that just, you know, replicated the same thing over and over again. Just go watch it for yourself.
[00:04:24] Speaker B: I know there's a bunch of incels that were complaining about the fact that. That she's not endorsing Trump.
[00:04:31] Speaker A: Oh, okay.
[00:04:33] Speaker B: I mean, actors aren't supposed to say anything about politics.
[00:04:37] Speaker A: Oh. But when the ones that support what they want say stuff, it's okay. Got it.
[00:04:42] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You can just ban the press corps and don't let them film you anymore or whatever. I don't know what's happening.
Actually, I do know what's happening. And I was amazed that Fox News actually canceled his coverage too.
Yeah, for those people that don't know he said that. Ms. Now cnn. And who was the third people he wouldn't let in?
[00:05:11] Speaker A: Was it C Span? I don't know.
[00:05:13] Speaker B: No. Anyway, C Span, that would be funny.
And anyway, cnn, Fox, NBC, abc, and CBS all share the responsibility of recording the President.
Probably be better if I turn that around.
[00:05:28] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:05:30] Speaker B: Recorded the President. Recorded the President. You know, when he's doing functions and events, and they share the cost of that because it's, you know, free. And even Fox News agreed to stop. So that whole pool, when they kicked CNN out, stopped doing that.
So now the President has his own. He's going to have his own people going around recording him? No, it's literally everything he wanted in life.
I heard that he's going to call his new channel Pravda.
[00:05:59] Speaker A: I see.
[00:06:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
So, yes, like the Russian news service or the Soviet news service.
Yeah. It means truth.
[00:06:11] Speaker A: I see.
[00:06:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
So if we're going to have a new news service, it can be great.
It's going to be one more thing for big Batman to go take out.
[00:06:22] Speaker A: Right?
Big beefy Batman.
[00:06:25] Speaker B: Yeah. So we're going to need some big beefy Batman to defeat some billionaires. Got this other poster frame because there's one more poster.
[00:06:32] Speaker A: Oh, my God. One more poster.
[00:06:34] Speaker B: Is that crinkly enough?
[00:06:35] Speaker A: Yeah, it's crinkly enough.
I. I should tell you.
[00:06:39] Speaker B: Isn't this soothing, though?
[00:06:40] Speaker A: It is not soothing, Dan.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: No, but just.
But millions of. I just wanted to get more listeners, and millions of people watch those folks putting their makeup on and doing all. And sitting in their car and doing all those things when they do their podcast. And we. We have, like zero listeners.
[00:06:58] Speaker A: We have. So I thought we have like four.
[00:07:01] Speaker B: I thought if we replicate, like, what other people do, then we get 16. So what's better than putting in poster frames? Anyway, you were saying before I interrupted.
[00:07:10] Speaker A: I was going to say.
I should go. I should tell you, during the unnecessary debates at Real City Comic Con, we
[00:07:18] Speaker B: did have a. Oh, that I wasn't invited to debate in. Yes, I remember then.
[00:07:23] Speaker A: Oh, geez.
Squadron man showed up. It was fantastic. It was.
[00:07:27] Speaker B: Yeah. See, I knew it. Anyway, you were saying about the unnecessary debates where all the debaters were much better than me.
[00:07:33] Speaker A: That's the thing.
[00:07:35] Speaker B: That's.
[00:07:35] Speaker A: It's not supposed to be about who can debate well. It's.
It's who can. Who can please the crowd. And.
And it's generally.
[00:07:44] Speaker B: Are you saying I'm not pleasing.
[00:07:47] Speaker A: I'm going to say even. Even if you are, even if you have compelling arguments and you make sense, people don't care.
[00:07:54] Speaker B: Really.
[00:07:55] Speaker A: They really don't.
But the point is, is that there was really.
[00:08:00] Speaker B: They don't care.
[00:08:01] Speaker A: They don't care. They really. Okay, no. We had. We had a lot of really good, Good, Good topics and good things to debate about, and we.
We did not win on the grounds of good debate. We. We. The ones that we won Were basically when.
When I. Oh, hey, Day of the Dead poster that you must have got at the Blue Mouse Theater.
[00:08:30] Speaker B: I did get it at the Blue Mouse Theater drawn by Mark Brill, who was found by the art director of Friday Night Frights when Travis Bundy, who was on the show last week.
[00:08:40] Speaker A: Very cool.
[00:08:41] Speaker B: Or I should say, isn't he creative director? Let me make sure I get that.
[00:08:44] Speaker A: I believe he might be, but we did debate Absolute Batman.
[00:08:52] Speaker B: Yeah, wouldn't. Would you won and you said Beefy Batman is the best Batman.
[00:08:59] Speaker A: I can't. Did I, did we win that round?
[00:09:00] Speaker B: You did not.
[00:09:01] Speaker A: I did win. No, I did.
[00:09:03] Speaker B: I actually, I think I defend Beefy Batman. All you had to do is say his sales figures.
[00:09:07] Speaker A: I, it was, it was, it was about who would you, who would, who would get who. Who would you rather date off of hinge?
Absolute Batman or the ghoul from fallout?
[00:09:25] Speaker B: Absolute Batman. I mean, is there a question there?
Absolute Batman has a chest. Abs. He has biceps and triceps. He has quads. He has hamstrings, he has calves.
And the ghoul has.
[00:09:45] Speaker A: The ghoul has.
[00:09:46] Speaker B: Oh, and, and, and Beefy Batman has his glutes.
[00:09:51] Speaker A: I, I did say. I, I said he, he is the Batman of the people. He's the Batman who will burn a city down for you in order to protect you. He will, he will go to no ends to, to make sure. Oh, that is beautiful. Looks great.
[00:10:06] Speaker B: Admittedly, I, I do understand that sometimes some negative things could happen due to over steroid use, so that could be a reason not to date Beefy Batman.
[00:10:19] Speaker A: Yeah, but the, the ghoul, the ghoul will, will most likely end up killing you with the radiation that he will give you.
[00:10:26] Speaker B: Yeah. That's fair.
[00:10:27] Speaker A: So, and, and, and, and I mean not to. I like, he has a, he has a whole family.
[00:10:39] Speaker B: Do you think I should go put some more posters in?
[00:10:42] Speaker A: Oh, geez.
[00:10:44] Speaker B: No, I think there's a couple more I could go get.
[00:10:47] Speaker A: No, I think we should talk about absolute Batman.
[00:10:50] Speaker B: Okay, so Absolute Batman is a winner. This last.
[00:10:53] Speaker A: I, I, I want to say that, that it was, we had people in the crowd really excited that I, I had a knowledge of absolute wow.
[00:11:02] Speaker B: See, that's what I know is when we review new things. Do you know, like next month, um, Jason is going to come back to the podcast and we're going to review some new Jonah Hex.
[00:11:15] Speaker A: All right.
[00:11:16] Speaker B: Isn't even out yet, so I don't even know if it's good. But hey, if it's not good. I'm sure we'll let you know. And if it's good, I'm sure we'll let you know. But Jason is a longtime Jonah Hex fan, so we probably will be doing some Legion too, during that podcast. So not reviewing the whole book, but Greg, against his will, has committed to reading the first issue.
[00:11:39] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. I gotta go pick everything up.
[00:11:43] Speaker B: Yep. Gotta sign up for that Jonah Hex and go get the Legion first issue. You know, it's sold out. You may not be able to get it.
[00:11:50] Speaker A: Curses.
[00:11:52] Speaker B: Maybe get on to issue two before you get too far behind.
[00:11:55] Speaker A: I know this is, it's terrible.
[00:11:57] Speaker B: I mean, I can't believe you.
It's. Yeah. Anyway, I sound very muted. I feel like relaxed.
I was very relaxed. Putting posters in, it's like extremely relaxing.
[00:12:08] Speaker A: Putting posters into frames is so relaxing. It's almost meditative. It's, it's one of those things that you can do. It's yoga for your hands, Dan.
[00:12:20] Speaker B: I've been doing a lot of yoga.
[00:12:22] Speaker A: It's, it's, it's a thing that people do to unwind the mind.
[00:12:30] Speaker B: Like putting on makeup in the car.
[00:12:32] Speaker A: They can if they want to, but I don't suggest it. It's very dangerous, as I know from my clowning days.
[00:12:43] Speaker B: You should do videos of. We should do a funny book Forensics for. You're in your car putting on clown makeup and I'm putting posters in poster frames at the same time.
[00:12:53] Speaker A: Nobody.
[00:12:53] Speaker B: That is how we're going to get millions of listeners.
[00:12:56] Speaker A: Nobody.
[00:12:57] Speaker B: I can't believe you've tapped into that. You know, I ask, I asked somebody how to improve our listenership. And I was given some suggestions and, but then I didn't listen to any of those suggestions. I just thought of this new idea.
[00:13:10] Speaker A: He thought of a new idea, I'm sure.
[00:13:12] Speaker B: Well, it's based on what people do. And I, I think that that makes sense.
[00:13:16] Speaker A: I'm sure listeners will let us know if, if putting posters in frames is what, what snared them like the, like, like Grimbor, the Chainsman. And I'll tell you, I'll tell you what.
[00:13:29] Speaker B: The first listener that comes back and tells us that they loved putting posters in frames.
[00:13:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:37] Speaker B: I will give you a ticket to Grit City Comic Con.
[00:13:40] Speaker A: Oh, my goodness.
[00:13:43] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:13:43] Speaker A: That is, that is very nice of you, Dan.
[00:13:45] Speaker B: Yep, that's. I, I, I have a ticket to give you and you just have to come back to me. You can message me through Instagram, Facebook X will be hard. Cause I deleted off my phone Even though you still put the podcast there. I. I don't really like it.
Uh, so I was getting rid of it, but it's. I. I'll still put the podcast links there.
Blue sky, maybe. Yeah. Uh, I found out I have an account on Blue Sky. Actually, I didn't even know.
I just use it. I just thought we had a funny book forensics account on Blue Sky.
[00:14:19] Speaker A: Oh, but you actually had your own.
[00:14:21] Speaker B: Yeah, I made my own.
[00:14:22] Speaker A: He's got his own personal account there, people. You could reach Dan at Blue Sky.
[00:14:26] Speaker B: You can find me on Blue Sky. Yeah, you could have a ticket to Grit City comic con on November 7th, and that would be all of yours. All you have to do, it's in Tacoma, Washington. All you have to do is message me and tell me how much you appreciated putting posters.
The segment on putting posters and frames,
[00:14:45] Speaker A: they're gonna be like, what we really want is you putting posters in frames, Greg. Putting on clown makeup.
And I'll be like, I don't have clown makeup to put on anymore.
[00:14:57] Speaker B: Oh, that's unfortunate. We'll have to. We'll have to get enough listeners. So, listeners, if you want Greg to put on clown makeup, you can sign up for our Patreon.
[00:15:06] Speaker A: You know, that's a joke.
It's a joke. But I mean, honestly, I.
[00:15:13] Speaker B: And yeah, honestly, I don't have time to build the content for Patreon right now. Maybe in the future.
No, I really couldn't.
[00:15:21] Speaker A: But you could. I'd just be putting posters into frames, Dan. You'd just be putting posters in frames or sleeving comic books.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: I know these are things nobody cares about, but I. The weeds in my front yard were so bad, and we had. We hired Sandy. We hired somebody to clean to.
[00:15:40] Speaker A: Was it Keanu?
[00:15:41] Speaker B: We hired somebody to get rid of them.
[00:15:43] Speaker A: Was it Keani?
[00:15:45] Speaker B: Yes.
I guess we're calling Kia. He out on the podcast and. And he said that the weed eater I had wasn't the right tool for the job and that I must get him a different tool. So after three months of waiting, I went out there at 3 o', clock, I walked the dogs and I came home and I'm like, I'm cutting down all this fucking shit.
[00:16:08] Speaker A: Was it three o' clock in the morning?
[00:16:10] Speaker B: No, it was tonight. Like, yeah, podcast. I had to shower up and everything. So I went out there and I edged the little things and chopped down weeds and I took my big chopper and cut the BlackBerry bushes growing from the hoard in my neighbor's yard over into my yard.
[00:16:27] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:16:28] Speaker B: You know exactly what I'm talking about. Yeah. Because she took away the trash bins or the big trash can, so now it's just. All the stuff is just sitting there in the yard. Ah.
And I don't really care because I don't have an hoa, so we can do whatever the hell we want. Fortunately, because I would have been fined multiple times this summer if I had an hoa. And since most front yard is nice dead. Well, I don't necessarily want to look nice. I was just tired of it. I mean, what I want to do is take the front yard and get rid of the grass and put rocks there, because the grass already died. Because when we bought the house, it was all moss, and the moss died, and then the sprinkler system doesn't work, and none of that. I. I don't want to pay for all that. I'd rather just, like, have rocks there.
[00:17:09] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:17:10] Speaker B: And then try to figure out how to grow grass in our backyard. But the. Anyway, moral of this, Moral of the story of this rant is I feel all high. I was zenning out, putting posters and frames because.
[00:17:22] Speaker A: Oh, no, now I got you all jacked up.
[00:17:25] Speaker B: I was all aggro out there.
[00:17:27] Speaker A: Oh, no.
[00:17:28] Speaker B: Attacking the weeds and stuff.
And I. Well, I was also trying to get in the mindset for Spawn Cape Batman.
[00:17:38] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:17:41] Speaker B: Because as we learned last time, the cape can do a lot of things.
[00:17:45] Speaker A: It can. It's a magic cape.
[00:17:48] Speaker B: And it's totally. I mean, who do you think gets credit for that? Capullo or. Or. Or McFarlane?
[00:17:59] Speaker A: I mean, you don't get one without the other. But at the same point, I think, like, it's a. It's definitely, like, a take on what bats do. So, I mean, it's. Yeah, it's fair to say it's pulo.
[00:18:15] Speaker B: Craig Capullo is ripped, by the way.
[00:18:18] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:18:19] Speaker B: That man is gym down shredded human.
[00:18:23] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:18:24] Speaker B: Yeah, he is.
[00:18:26] Speaker A: It's.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: It. He. Yeah, it's. It's impressive to. For the amount of art that he does, to be able to stay in that good shape is very impressive.
[00:18:41] Speaker A: That's. That is. It's a testament. Dan's gonna flash up an image for me.
[00:18:47] Speaker B: Yeah, I, I am. I'm gonna. I'm gonna. It's probably. Probably won't make the main podcast, but here we go. Right there.
[00:18:54] Speaker A: Oh, wow. Yeah.
[00:18:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:58] Speaker A: What was he doing? Is.
Yeah, look at that.
[00:19:02] Speaker B: I mean, how do.
[00:19:03] Speaker A: How do you draw with arms like that?
[00:19:05] Speaker B: I don't know. You know, like, I, I, I don't know, but when you are, you know, that's, that's, that's, that's pretty impressive.
[00:19:15] Speaker A: It's like, what? He draws a page, does a set. Draws a page, does the set.
Yeah, he draws a panel, does a set, does a set.
[00:19:23] Speaker B: That, that makes sense. And then wears his comics and coffee shirt.
I should probably say, like coffee or comics and pre workout.
That would be the, that would be hilarious.
But yeah, I mean, I think what I actually think is happening is that Greg Capullo is actually absolute Batman.
[00:19:51] Speaker A: Holy crap.
You think he just took images? Like he just took pictures of himself and then drew himself into the, into the book.
[00:20:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:20:02] Speaker A: Fair enough.
[00:20:02] Speaker B: He's not drawing this book, but maybe Nick Dagrotta saw Capullo and is like,
[00:20:08] Speaker A: he's like that guy just like, put, put me in.
[00:20:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
And I, I mean, I think it makes sense. Right? I mean, that's, that's what you would do.
[00:20:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:20:23] Speaker B: So I don't know. I mean, there's, that's. Well, maybe we'll do may, maybe we'll do some more features on some ripped artists because, you know, I, I, I admire that.
[00:20:36] Speaker A: Well, more ripped artists, please.
[00:20:38] Speaker B: I guess we should go to absolute Batman number three. I think I was doing this.
Yeah, absolutely.
[00:20:43] Speaker A: Batman.
This is. I.
[00:20:47] Speaker B: First off, before we get too far into this thing, I really like issue three.
[00:20:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:20:55] Speaker B: Because starts to wrap up three different things.
Well, kind of four, actually.
[00:21:03] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:21:04] Speaker B: But one's really brief. Right.
It gives us more insight into Selena coming from issue two.
[00:21:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:13] Speaker B: It gives us more insight on, like his giant Batmobile that's driving through the city and the relationship with Alfred. Right.
[00:21:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:22] Speaker B: We get a little bit more on his historical bat or. Sorry, not the historical backstory is there. But that was actually not one of the four points I thought. It gets into. It gets more into how he utilizes his friends. And we find out more about Mr. Nygma and we find out more about the leader of the bad guys.
[00:21:44] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
Everything's coming together in issue.
[00:21:48] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, and it does make sense. Right? I think, I think this ended up being a six issue arc, didn't it? Not a five issue.
[00:21:54] Speaker A: I think so.
[00:21:55] Speaker B: But three is where you really should have that start happening.
[00:21:59] Speaker A: Right.
[00:22:00] Speaker B: So you should be rapidly advancing the plot, rapidly advancing the storyline. And I thought that Snyder did a really good job doing that. Right.
[00:22:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:09] Speaker B: And I was, I was impressed. Right. It's sometimes in Snyder's stories, I have said in the past that I feel like when you get in the middle of the story to advance the story stuff's just happening out of nowhere and I can't follow.
And I, I felt that in, like, death metal. I felt like that in a few of the other. And of course, that's harder because that's a cross company thing, right?
[00:22:35] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:36] Speaker B: So, you know, I mean, if you read Crisis 1 through 12, it can become a mishmash of mess at times in the middle.
[00:22:44] Speaker A: Right.
[00:22:45] Speaker B: I think if you read Secret wars and we'll go back to the 80s, it's the same, Right?
[00:22:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:52] Speaker B: And, you know, we. We've joked about some of these crossover series in the past and different things, but I felt like with DCKO and then this absolute Batman I'm reading now, which before. I feel like they've done a better job kind of threading the story through and even it does bounce a little bit, right?
[00:23:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:23:13] Speaker B: But it helps me. He's really helping me stay with it.
[00:23:18] Speaker A: Fair. Fair.
[00:23:20] Speaker B: I don't feel lost.
[00:23:21] Speaker A: You're, You're, You're, You're. You're staying with the thread of the story.
You're picking up the other ones as, as you're reading, and things are, Things are, Are tightening up and making sense as opposed to being like, well, okay, what happened to that?
Where did that go? Why did I get introduced to this? And it's not important anymore.
[00:23:43] Speaker B: Right.
And, or, and, and with Snyder, sometimes it will just jump. Right. Like, you'll be doing something, and then the next book you open and you're in this completely different scene.
[00:23:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:23:54] Speaker B: And I'm like, how do we get there? And my brain actually gets tired when I'm reading his stories because I'm trying to, like, figure out what's happening.
[00:24:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:04] Speaker B: And then in this case, like, you mentioned reading. I think you're ahead of me, but I. I'm through issue seven now. You're through, like eight or nine, I think.
[00:24:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:15] Speaker B: And it was easy to keep reading these. I.
[00:24:17] Speaker A: Flows really well. Want to. Because it just is. It's a good story.
I just haven't had time right now to finish off. Like, I, I just want to finish the whole thing because it's. Or not the whole thing, but, like, as much as I can.
You know, it's just. It's. It's a fun read. It's.
The story is good. The next arc that I'm into is. Is building up, and I'm like, okay, this is where we. We hit the ground running, so to speak, you know, and it, and it really.
It doesn't seem to miss a miss a step, lose Any of the pacing, it really just continues forward and makes you just want to get to the next book because it. It's a solid story.
[00:25:03] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:25:04] Speaker A: Where sometimes you get to the next arc and it loses a little bit of the steam. Some things loosen up a little bit and you're like, okay, well, they're cheating us a little here and there. But that doesn't seem to be the case in this Dex arc.
[00:25:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:23] Speaker A: Not to give too much away to the people who haven't read anything or we haven't got there yet because we're only in issue three, but, yeah, it's a good story.
[00:25:36] Speaker B: Yep.
Yep. No, like, I'm. I'm. No, it's. I. I'm sorry. I'm not having the best reaction to you, but, like, I agree, and I think the analysis makes sense, so. Well, let's get into some of the pacing and paneling in this thing.
[00:25:51] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:25:52] Speaker B: And dig in. I guess. I have my copy on the tablet and in my hand.
[00:25:57] Speaker A: He's double copying people, double fisting books.
[00:26:02] Speaker B: I'm all over the place here.
[00:26:04] Speaker A: The typical Dan.
[00:26:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, that is. Yes. That is typical me.
I just wanted to say, though, before we continue, I. I've got another. I've got another famous comic book artist candidate for absolute Batman.
[00:26:21] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:26:22] Speaker B: Yes, one very. Another equally. Equally famous to the one we just showed you. One Phil Jimenez.
[00:26:28] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah. He's just sitting there. He's. He's on Uncle Google over there looking up.
[00:26:35] Speaker B: No, no.
[00:26:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
Well, you just got all these images.
[00:26:39] Speaker B: He'd probably not appreciate this because his eyes are squinting, but.
[00:26:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:26:43] Speaker B: Yeah, it just proves you can draw and. And still.
Yeah.
[00:26:50] Speaker A: Shredded for yourself.
[00:26:53] Speaker B: Yeah, I.
I mean, I. I wouldn't mind running into Mr. Jimenez in New York sometime.
Phil, if you're out there and I'm in New York and you want to have dinner,
[00:27:09] Speaker A: talk comics.
[00:27:10] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, it's sad that I've never gotten to a convention where you're at just so I could talk to you and I'd probably just make a fool of myself. But, Phil, this is an official request for a date, actually, if I'm. Or if you just want to invite me to New York, if you were listening to the podcast and happily go out there and. And we could have a nice dinner and, you know, have a. Have a chat. We could talk about comics and weightlifting and you could help me with my hinge profile. It be.
Yeah.
So. So, Phil.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So, Phil, if you're listening and just. And if you're listening and you know, I don't even know if you're in a committed relationship, but I mean, if you are, bring your husband. That's fine.
Or partner. That's fine.
Just. We can go lift afterwards. I understand there's some really nice bath places with gyms in the front, so he could. We could go.
Just want to let everybody know that Phil Jimenez, not only is your art beautiful.
Well, anyway, Greg, absolute Batman.
[00:28:23] Speaker A: He's just. He's just out there trying to. Trying to fish.
[00:28:28] Speaker B: Well, it. I mean, it. It is. It's Phil Jimenez.
[00:28:31] Speaker A: If you don't. If you don't cast. If you don't cast once in a while, you never catch.
[00:28:36] Speaker B: I mean, who. Who wouldn't want to cast their line toward Phil Jimenez? Like, I mean, if you've never seen
[00:28:45] Speaker A: his art, it is fantastic.
[00:28:48] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I know you have, but. Yeah, the. Well, anyway, so maybe I should cast a net for one, like, absolute Batman.
[00:29:02] Speaker A: One absolute Batman. He's.
[00:29:03] Speaker B: He's a little young now.
[00:29:08] Speaker A: True.
[00:29:11] Speaker B: And influenced and maybe corrupted by Darkseid, but we don't know that yet. We haven't got there. I don't know.
[00:29:17] Speaker A: Don't know.
[00:29:18] Speaker B: His universe was created by Darkseid, not. Not him.
[00:29:21] Speaker A: Not him.
[00:29:22] Speaker B: Well, anyway, we start out and the kids are playing and Selena is doing all these cat like things and getting Bruce to do them, and he slips and she grabs him.
And that's the continuation from the last issue, at least on that part.
And I can hear. I can hear one Travis Webb yelling at us to not go panel by panel during Kingdom Come.
[00:29:53] Speaker A: Huh.
[00:29:53] Speaker B: But I do want to start at the beginning of the book because it's
[00:29:57] Speaker A: a good transition because he didn't go every single panel. You just, You. You explained what was going on on the page.
Well, and then Travis can. Travis can put that into his pocket and then he can spit on it.
[00:30:11] Speaker B: Oh, wow.
[00:30:13] Speaker A: How do you like that? How do you like them apples?
[00:30:16] Speaker B: Are you challenging Travis to us?
I mean. Because if we're doing challenges, I have a challenge to make.
[00:30:23] Speaker A: What's your challenge?
[00:30:25] Speaker B: Well, right now I wanted to talk about how seamlessly they went from the backstory with Selena into the backstory of Commissioner Gordon carrying him through the zoo.
[00:30:34] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
[00:30:35] Speaker B: And how really cool. This. This is like the coolest profile lion I've ever seen.
[00:30:41] Speaker A: That's pretty cool.
[00:30:43] Speaker B: And I really.
I really felt. Again, they're tying up some loose ends here in three, and then they immediately get us right back after we have this nice thing back.
Immediately, he's fighting. I've totally forgotten their names.
[00:31:01] Speaker A: Oh, the.
[00:31:02] Speaker B: I almost called them the Mutants because that's the other Batman. The Party Animals. Thank you. Of course they're the party Animals. I love rooting for the party Animals. I should always remember that. There's so much fun. I saw a video where one popped the ball up in the air and then caught it in his shirt.
[00:31:19] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:31:20] Speaker B: The center fielder. He popped the ball with his glove and then did a spectacular catch by catching into his shirt and then exposing his eyes, his pecs at the same time.
[00:31:30] Speaker A: His testicles.
[00:31:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
No, the Party Animals are great. Sometimes I want them to beat the bananas.
[00:31:38] Speaker A: You're like, damn you.
[00:31:41] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, it's not fair. They shouldn't be the jar. They should not be the Washington Generals.
[00:31:45] Speaker A: You know, it's just gonna say the Washington Generals.
[00:31:51] Speaker B: But these party animals here.
[00:31:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:54] Speaker B: Is that really what they are?
[00:31:55] Speaker A: They are the party animals.
[00:31:57] Speaker B: How have I forgotten that?
[00:31:59] Speaker A: I don't know. You put it out of your mind.
[00:32:01] Speaker B: Well, no, I'm getting confused with the Mutants from.
[00:32:03] Speaker A: Yeah, the Mutants.
That's who. That's who in.
Yeah. In. In. Other. In. In. Big, older Batman.
Yeah, Older Batman.
[00:32:13] Speaker B: Big. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And big, older Batman. You're right.
[00:32:16] Speaker A: Big older Batman.
[00:32:17] Speaker B: That makes sense. Big, younger.
You get a fully confusing. Yeah, yeah. To put big, I had to put. And then I've got, like, movie Batman over here.
We've got Batman everywhere.
[00:32:34] Speaker A: You got. You got some Batfleck over there.
[00:32:36] Speaker B: No.
[00:32:37] Speaker A: Oh, which. Which movie Batman you got.
[00:32:39] Speaker B: No, you got the shiny one.
[00:32:41] Speaker A: You got the glittery one.
[00:32:41] Speaker B: Christian Bale.
[00:32:43] Speaker A: Oh, Christian Bale.
You know, honestly, I'm not gonna lie. And I know that you don't like it, but I don't mind me. That new Batman. Oh, shit.
[00:32:58] Speaker B: I walked here, and then I walked here, and then I walked here. I walked here. This. But you know why this Batman is awesome? Because he has a giant car with, like, teeth.
[00:33:08] Speaker A: He does. It's pretty sweet. I thought you were going to challenge. You're going to make a challenge a minute ago.
[00:33:14] Speaker B: I'm. I'm working up to it.
[00:33:15] Speaker A: Okay. He's working up to it, folks. I thought, you know, he got. He got me excited. I didn't know what he was doing.
[00:33:20] Speaker B: Anyway, this Batmobile is awesome. It has, like.
It's guns or something.
[00:33:25] Speaker A: It's a.
It's. It's a big, beefy Batmobile.
[00:33:29] Speaker B: This is a gun.
[00:33:33] Speaker A: Is this.
[00:33:33] Speaker B: Are these like the guns in. In GI Joe that never kill anything?
[00:33:38] Speaker A: I think they're like. They're. Oh, what do they call them? Less than lethal. Yeah.
[00:33:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
Less.
Wow.
[00:33:47] Speaker A: It's just that they're shooting. It's a projectile launcher. It's not a. Not a bullet. It's. It's just like a hard rubber ball.
[00:33:59] Speaker B: Then there's this page with 900 panels.
[00:34:01] Speaker A: Huh?
Yes.
[00:34:07] Speaker B: Yeah. And it works.
[00:34:13] Speaker A: Yeah, it does work.
[00:34:14] Speaker B: It's.
And so what they're doing here. And this is where comic books, being a visual medium is important.
Yeah. Because. Well, it does. But the story shows.
So this page shows Batman in two of the 9,000 panels on it and just a side profile. Right.
But it shows.
I guess we forgot to mention that Alfred is on the Batmobile. In the Batmobile. Yeah. So he gets down there, and he's watching in astonishment.
And his. That facial expression. The reaction is amazing.
[00:34:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:55] Speaker B: And the reaction of the party animals, even though you can't see their faces, it's very clear what's going on.
[00:35:02] Speaker A: Yeah. They're getting decimated.
[00:35:04] Speaker B: Yeah. As the giant bat ball takes care of everything.
And then we get our Keystone Cop moment on the next page, which I think we mentioned a couple podcasts ago, there's going to be a Keystone Cop moment.
And it looks like.
It looks. It almost looks like it's the start. It's the beginning of the scene from Blues Brothers.
[00:35:27] Speaker A: Oh, totally.
[00:35:28] Speaker B: In Chicago.
[00:35:30] Speaker A: Yep.
They can drive through them all, but
[00:35:34] Speaker B: we do the app opposite. Instead of driving over the bridge and watching all the Nazis fall into the bridge. And I didn't mean the cops, by the way. If, you know, Blues Brothers, The Nazis were the ones that felt they were. They were actual Nazis. I was not. I want to be very clear. I was not saying police are Nazis.
I only say ice are Nazis. I don't say the police are Nazis.
So I just want to be very clear that we're distinguished. Ice Nazis, Nazis and Blues Brothers. That war. Schwastic is Nazis.
[00:36:07] Speaker A: Nazis.
[00:36:08] Speaker B: Police, not Nazis.
Except the Pierce County Sheriff. So true.
Now we'll go into the.
But he just dives the Batmobile into the water. And then we just get another facial expression from Alfred, which is because he.
[00:36:27] Speaker A: He hit the eject button. Meow. Shot him out into the space.
[00:36:33] Speaker B: Yeah. And I. I love this, because Alfred is, like, trying to give him advice,
[00:36:38] Speaker A: and he's not happy, and he's just
[00:36:40] Speaker B: like, I don't care.
[00:36:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Doing my own thing on the bed.
[00:36:46] Speaker B: Do you think he would say things like, Boomer, maybe. Shut up, Boomer.
[00:36:53] Speaker A: I don't know. I don't know.
[00:36:54] Speaker B: I.
[00:36:54] Speaker A: He might be a little more Respectful.
[00:36:57] Speaker B: Do you think he was non plussed by that advice he was getting?
[00:37:00] Speaker A: Yeah, definitely.
He was like, whatever
[00:37:05] Speaker B: by the sixth or seventh time.
[00:37:09] Speaker A: Yeah. Tap, tap, tap. Excuse me, Mr. Batman.
[00:37:15] Speaker B: Just trying things right now. I have to teach real life humans this week. It's gonna be interesting.
[00:37:21] Speaker A: Oh, boy. They're gonna call you a boomer.
[00:37:24] Speaker B: Oh, they already do.
I don't care.
[00:37:27] Speaker A: You gotta bring up some Yu Gi oh cards, Dan.
[00:37:30] Speaker B: That part doesn't bug me. Oh, yeah, That'll make me look young.
[00:37:34] Speaker A: Yeah, it will.
Why is Yu making a comeback always, Dan?
[00:37:40] Speaker B: They were just happy that I have a Dragon Ball Z bag that I come bring with me. And then we talk about that. So.
[00:37:47] Speaker A: And then. And then you tell them that you're. You're also into what is the One piece. You're in the One piece?
[00:37:56] Speaker B: No, you should be. Oh, I don't know anything about it
[00:38:00] Speaker A: except that you better get into it.
[00:38:02] Speaker B: Better get into it with all of my extra time. Sure.
[00:38:06] Speaker A: Do it. There's only.
[00:38:07] Speaker B: I'll watch One Piece between reading Absolute Batman.
[00:38:10] Speaker A: There's too many episodes.
[00:38:11] Speaker B: You won't ever get through contracts.
[00:38:13] Speaker A: There's two.
[00:38:16] Speaker B: Well, there are too many episodes of Dragon Ball too. And I haven't even watched that yet. And I've only watched Dragon Ball Z, so I'm not even watching the right order. And.
[00:38:23] Speaker A: And damn.
[00:38:25] Speaker B: I only watch it while I carry giant heavy sandbags around a gym.
Well, we get back to the flashback scene with Bruce and Selina, and she sneaks him into a movie. And I like how they work this in because I tried to give this away too soon by accidentally talking about Zorro before.
Yes, because Zoro's part of the mythos.
[00:38:50] Speaker A: Is it?
[00:38:51] Speaker B: But she takes him to watch Zorro.
[00:38:54] Speaker A: Tell me.
[00:38:55] Speaker B: After his dad died.
So I. I. Again, it's one of those. I brought something from the mythos in, but didn't use it in the same way. Yeah, I just. I like for. For a new reader, it means nothing. Yeah, she took him in and made him watch a movie.
Right, Right.
And that means something because you're seeing the relationship. I shouldn't say it means nothing, but for a Batman fan, even a casual one, you're getting a reference to something that.
And I know I'm missing hundreds of these references because I'm not a huge Batman person, so it's all right.
[00:39:32] Speaker A: Yeah. You are becoming one of them, despite
[00:39:35] Speaker B: the giant Batman collection behind you.
Not collection, but I really don't have a lot of Batman books, honestly, compared to.
If I take a percentage of my collection, the Batman books would be a fairly small percentage relative to everything else that I have. And I wouldn't even say that much.
[00:39:55] Speaker A: 5%?
[00:39:57] Speaker B: Yeah, I'd say under 5.
[00:39:58] Speaker A: 2%.
[00:40:00] Speaker B: I don't know, but I don't know if it's that low. But I don't know where you're going. Traded Grill Meade and Cross X link. What's, what's happening right now?
Would you say it's 5% if you
[00:40:12] Speaker A: would take Batman and all the crossover books that you own where Batman is a character?
[00:40:17] Speaker B: Oh, well, yeah, I'm not counting Justice League books and crossover books, but you
[00:40:22] Speaker A: have to because he's part of the Justice League and he's a character in those stories, Dan. So I believe that the percentage that you're saying that you have a Batman books to the percentage that you don't think that you have is greater than. So therefore you're a liar.
[00:40:36] Speaker B: Well, under that comic book collection system, Alan was using our former guest, Alan Wu.
Yes. Where he had all the Wolverine in his collection. I bet you would be correct. So for using those definitions, I wasn't trying to debate because I'm not good enough for debate. We've already established that, so.
[00:41:01] Speaker A: No, you are. That's the problem. You're too good, Dan.
[00:41:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:05] Speaker A: You can't have a ringer every time. Oh, we need to have a jobber like myself.
[00:41:11] Speaker B: Also, I think you all would just pick topics I don't know anything about.
[00:41:15] Speaker A: That's the thing, is that we never know what's going to be thrown out there. Honestly. Do you want to know what one of them was? Who would you rather be haunted by?
The ghost of Macho Man Savage, Randy Savage, or the ghost of Gallagher?
Well, obviously we know which ghost you want to be haunted by and we know which ghost you don't want to be haunted by. But people don't want to say they. That the worst ghost is the ghost. That is the real ghost that you don't want to be haunted by. That is the real ghost. That, that doesn't make any sense.
And everybody wants the ghost that, that they love.
And it's hard to debate that.
[00:41:54] Speaker B: Well, that's also not a debate topic.
[00:41:56] Speaker A: It's really not. But that's, that's how the debates work, Dan.
[00:42:00] Speaker B: Well, that's, that's silly. You should have topics that you debate, you know, that are clear and easy to understand.
[00:42:05] Speaker A: Well, that's, that's how, that's how unnecessary debates goes.
[00:42:11] Speaker B: Well, we get the skull from the party animals and we've got a wonderful man working on it. Mr. Enigma.
[00:42:23] Speaker A: Yes. Eddie.
[00:42:25] Speaker B: Eddie, Eddie. Yeah. I keep calling Mr. Enigma Eddie. Eddie. And Bruce, you know, it's, I like, I also, it does, you know, Bruce also, he does a lot of songs, you know, and.
[00:42:47] Speaker A: Hit Bruce and, and the Eddie Street Band.
[00:42:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
You remember when he did the, the Mad Max soundtrack song?
[00:42:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:59] Speaker B: You know Fury Road?
[00:43:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:01] Speaker B: Oh, Fury Road. Oh yeah, Dent it. Yeah. Remember that one? Yeah. It was good times.
That joke's terrible.
[00:43:09] Speaker A: It is. That's an awful joke.
[00:43:11] Speaker B: It's a terrible joke.
[00:43:13] Speaker A: The guitar solo was amazing though.
[00:43:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:17] Speaker A: It was on fire.
[00:43:19] Speaker B: I really like how young in contrast to the big beefy Batman suit that Nick Dragota makes Bruce look.
[00:43:29] Speaker A: Oh yeah. I mean he looks like a, like a 20 something year old kid.
[00:43:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
And how Eddie looks too.
[00:43:39] Speaker A: Kids goofing around in a lab.
[00:43:42] Speaker B: Yeah, well, one is goofing around in a lab and one is looking at his incredibly smart friend incredibly frustrated over the slowness of his processing of the explanation of everything.
And then they call their friend Harvey the lawyer.
[00:43:59] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:44:00] Speaker B: By the way.
[00:44:02] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:44:03] Speaker B: You know an even better lawyer than a young Harvey Dent.
[00:44:06] Speaker A: Who's that?
[00:44:07] Speaker B: One that would not flip a coin and try to murder you if the wrong side came up.
[00:44:14] Speaker A: Who would that be?
[00:44:15] Speaker B: He'd only try to murder you if you came to his gym and challenged him.
[00:44:19] Speaker A: Would he try to murder you or just make you tap out?
[00:44:22] Speaker B: Well, I mean, it might murder you if you chose not to tap out.
[00:44:25] Speaker A: I, I, I would, I would hate that.
I would hate to think that, that,
[00:44:30] Speaker B: that, but it's not murder. You know why?
[00:44:33] Speaker A: Because you consented.
[00:44:35] Speaker B: Huh? You're correct. It's not murder. Because in the intentional torch theory that I studied last month. Yeah. You know, in, in sports where you agree to have a combat, then you can't be, it's, it's not, it's not assault. Right. Because it's agreed to that. It's none of those things, actually. It's none of those things. No. If somebody, if they, now obviously it might be a wrongful death or something like that. It's a different, different.
But if you, if you did it in relation to the sporting activity, it would be hard to prove and, and everything was above board. It'd be hard to prove to a.
Now do you Remember the Marty McSorley case in the 2000s? The Hockey Player that went and hit the guy in the back of the head with his stick after the glove fight was over?
[00:45:25] Speaker A: I don't remember that.
[00:45:26] Speaker B: Well, that might be grounds that that example might be grounds for. For assault.
[00:45:30] Speaker A: That's an assault. That's an assault.
[00:45:32] Speaker B: Because that wasn't part of the normal play of the sport anyway. See all the things I've learned because I've been studying under one wise Jiu Jitsu lawyer, Paul.
[00:45:41] Speaker A: Oh, wow. It's like you have your own. Your, your own sensei.
[00:45:45] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm sure when he listens to this, he's going to correct in his brain everything I just said and make sure he tells me what I got wrong.
[00:45:52] Speaker A: He's going to be like, dan, you are way off.
[00:45:56] Speaker B: He's going to say, you're way off. You should not. Just to be clear, you should never listen to me for legal advice, but if you need good legal advice, don't call Harvey Dent.
[00:46:05] Speaker A: Don't call Harvey Dent. Call Jiu Jitsu.
[00:46:06] Speaker B: Letter Paul at 253-656-4475.
[00:46:11] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh, what was that number again?
[00:46:13] Speaker B: It was 253-656-4475. And you can talk to the wonderful Kelly and you could get a consultation booked.
[00:46:24] Speaker A: Do it if you need it.
Hopefully you don't.
[00:46:27] Speaker B: We hope you don't, but if you do.
[00:46:30] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:31] Speaker B: And you know, that's if your employer was doing terrible things to you, like discriminating against you, taking your wages away, forcing you to return to the office five days a week when you have an accommodation.
[00:46:43] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:45] Speaker B: Those things are not okay. Those accommodations don't just disappear because the CEO has decided they want more people to buy things at the restaurants in downtown Seattle.
It's. Or, or the barbecue place across from.
Oh, I'm not gonna say what company, wherever.
[00:47:03] Speaker A: That company.
[00:47:03] Speaker B: But it's very good. But. And it should be.
Patrons should go there. It's very good, but.
Yeah, you should. Anyway, these are good reasons to contact Paul.
And sometimes if he can't handle your case, he might know somebody that can. So don't be afraid to give Paul a call for something. And he's going to be honest with you too, whether or not you have a case. So unlike me, who is not trustworthy. And you should never listen to me about the law because I'm just learning it.
You should talk to somebody that knows.
[00:47:36] Speaker A: I had a friend that needed legal help and I got them in touch with Paul and Paul was not the right fit. But Paul had three other people that he said, these are people that I know and trust. You can reach out to them. And they found hope.
[00:47:55] Speaker B: Juan, I just watched something, you know, talking about some of the major insurance companies and how Little. They pay out their claims.
And so I'll just say, whether it's Paul or anyone, if you're in a car accident or you're having an issue with your homeowner's insurance or something like that, you know, the minute you feel anything or you're getting strange offers and things like that, contact a lawyer, have them negotiate on your behalf. You will be much better off.
[00:48:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:48:28] Speaker B: Personally, I was in a car accident a year and a half ago now and I still haven't been paid out properly. And the insurance was nice enough to offer the exact amount of the health care costs.
[00:48:41] Speaker A: Oh, that was very nice of them.
[00:48:44] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, that doesn't account for all the back issues I was having, as you recall, and all the other things.
[00:48:50] Speaker A: The back issues, the trauma, car.
[00:48:54] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. And so, you know, fantastic.
[00:48:58] Speaker A: You know, lost of time for work, all those things. Yeah, yeah.
[00:49:02] Speaker B: And so, you know, that's where you have somebody negotiating on your behalf who actually understands the law going to help you out. And in this case, how it relates to Batman.
[00:49:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:49:11] Speaker B: Is they run into a legal question and they call. Immediately call their lawyer friend.
[00:49:16] Speaker A: That's what you do.
[00:49:20] Speaker B: And he.
I do want to highlight this part because he mentions he looked into that arc M fund they mentioned last time because I know that's going to play out later. So I'm gonna highlight that. He says a lot of the funding comes from a company called JK Holdings.
Do you think by chance they're taking a shot of a certain author of a wizard's book who is a complete and total piece of.
[00:49:43] Speaker A: I mean, they could be, but I also think it could be something else. But I mean, I'm gonna agree that with the last part of the thing that you said.
A wizard writer who is a total piece of.
[00:49:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Still frustrating. I mean, to no end, because he. It's one of the situations. I. I will say it.
It's one of those situations where you can't.
[00:50:14] Speaker B: You. It.
[00:50:15] Speaker A: It's so. So messy that you can't even unwind the, The. The.
[00:50:21] Speaker B: The.
[00:50:21] Speaker A: The like for the thing because of the tentacles that are tied around it.
[00:50:26] Speaker B: Well, I mean, people seem to. But I can't. So I can't either.
[00:50:29] Speaker A: And it's just so frustrating because, you know, at one point in my life there was a. A liking for said things and. Yeah. No, just gone.
[00:50:42] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, it's like trying to watch Rick and Morty.
[00:50:45] Speaker A: Yeah, There you go.
Yeah. Yeah.
[00:50:48] Speaker B: You can't not think about it when you're watching a show.
[00:50:54] Speaker A: Yeah, that was a whole conversation in the car.
[00:50:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Even when, even when they change who's doing the voices. Yeah, it's the.
Yeah. Anyway, so.
Well, maybe I would have been great for the car ride then.
[00:51:13] Speaker A: Next time.
[00:51:15] Speaker B: Anyway, yeah, we, we go back to find Mr. Roman Sionis, the head of this whole negative operation, and remember when I said I hate Harvey Bullock and he's a piece of.
[00:51:32] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:51:33] Speaker B: And I. Surprised. Yeah. Well, here you go. He's already a corrupt cop in issue three, so.
[00:51:39] Speaker A: Well, there you go.
[00:51:41] Speaker B: And Roman Sionis. The best way I can describe with this helmet thing on and the speedo that he's wearing is this is literally everything that Elon Musk wants to be.
Yeah, this is like Elon Musk's ultimate fantasy character.
[00:52:15] Speaker A: But he, but he can't do that because he's got like a weird cake shaped body.
[00:52:22] Speaker B: Yes, but this is his fantasy character. Like he really wants to be.
[00:52:26] Speaker A: He wants a doppel helmet and, and, and the ability to wear.
[00:52:33] Speaker B: I was just thinking the more ability. So we're gonna get us. We're gonna get a series of pages where Roman establishes his physical strength or prowess. I guess he's, he's a jiu jitsu master, like jiu jitsu lawyer, Paul.
And he's fighting basically a UFC fighter or pro wrestler. M.
And he's doing it, but he's all skinny and yogi shaped.
[00:53:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:02] Speaker B: And he breaks the guy's arm with a arm suspect arm bar, I might add.
[00:53:08] Speaker A: So he's like built like, like, like your friend Jeff from the Internet.
[00:53:13] Speaker B: Yeah, sure.
I think, I think my. Yeah, it's interesting because, like, I do think there are some actually funny jiu jitsu videos on the Internet where a smaller guy goes against a big guy and they're like doing the arm bar thing and the bigger guy just lifts him up and looks at him.
[00:53:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:34] Speaker B: Because he's like, technique is, is, is a thing, but if you are so much smaller.
Technique can work, but it doesn't always anyway.
But he murders the guy he's fighting or he turns him into a zombie because he gets red eyes. So I'm not exactly sure.
[00:53:59] Speaker A: I, I, I think he.
[00:54:04] Speaker B: You think he's dead dead?
[00:54:05] Speaker A: I, I think he, he's dead dead. I think he, I think he breaks his blood vessels by strangulation.
[00:54:14] Speaker B: Ah. Do you think he's dead dead like the. Oh, so he's dead dead like the ninjas.
The, the red suit ninjas?
[00:54:23] Speaker A: Yeah, I like the red suit ninjas.
[00:54:25] Speaker B: Oh, that, that was disturbing. I didn't know they were going to die like that.
[00:54:30] Speaker A: Dead. Dead.
[00:54:31] Speaker B: Snake Eyes doesn't murder people. You know, like he just hurts them a little bit and just.
[00:54:36] Speaker A: Snake eyes. Snake eyers. See, he. He burst.
[00:54:39] Speaker B: Oh, we keep ruining my childhood and all these things.
[00:54:43] Speaker A: Sorry.
[00:54:45] Speaker B: So, well, anyway, we get this going and we've got our. So we've got corrupt cops and we've got a show off billionaire, I guess.
Well, Batman wants to. I mean, Bruce.
Bruce wants to do some spying and he's got his help from a super spy.
[00:55:13] Speaker A: Kind of his super spirit in the background.
[00:55:18] Speaker B: Yeah. We start to find out about all these arcs, right? Arc A, Arc B, arc C.
And Arc M is going to be like this new home kind of place, Right.
So there's secret unregulated prisons run in conjunction with other governments around the world. So apparently there's one in Santa Prisca, one in Russia, one in China.
And Ark M is going to be Metrop, not Metropolis. That would make sense. ARM is going to be Gotham.
Maybe it should have been ArcG.
Well, then you couldn't have Arkham, like Arkham Asylum. I get it, but.
So if you didn't have Arkham Asylum, ARCG would have made more sense, right?
[00:56:06] Speaker A: It would have made. Yeah.
If you weren't calling for the Art M of Arkham.
Yeah.
[00:56:15] Speaker B: And as Batman goes to his solitary self there, we get another flashback at the theater. And Selina has invited all of Bruce's friends that he wouldn't see all the friends he knows later, and they all attack him with popcorn while they're watching Zorro.
And suddenly Zorro becomes like a super sweet moment in Bruce's wild life.
[00:56:37] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:56:38] Speaker B: Instead of the worst. Well, right before the worst moment. Right. It's like in this case, watching Zoro's friends is like the redemption arc. But I guess in regular Batman too, I mean, you could argue that watching Zorro was the last fun thing he did in life before his parents were murdered in front of him.
[00:56:57] Speaker A: Yeah. Supposed to be a good. A good moment, but it was the end of his childhood and this is like the continuation. It's like the. The restart of it.
[00:57:08] Speaker B: And the reason for him to like be in Gotham. Right.
To not run away or not go Right. With monks or something or.
[00:57:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:57:16] Speaker B: Isolate himself. He's not super rich. He's not going to isolate himself to his house. He has to live in the city and interact with people and.
[00:57:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:57:24] Speaker B: Understands them just to. It's a nice.
Yeah. Again, Batman of the people.
[00:57:32] Speaker A: Batman of the people.
[00:57:33] Speaker B: Should we, shall we say.
[00:57:35] Speaker A: Yeah. And It's. And you look at the bottom panel and. And you get that staff of his mom in the background.
You know, she's there. She's watching everything with.
[00:57:49] Speaker B: And then we get back to his mom now, and he has found out all this stuff, but he can't tell her he's found out all this stuff.
So she's going to try to be deputy mayor and support Commissioner Gordon.
And he's like, I don't want you to go out there and stuff. And she's like, but why?
And he's like, but I don't want you to.
And then he tries to insult her.
No, I'm convicted. And then he's like, well, she mentions.
Then you try anyway. That's who we are, who I am, who your father was. And Bruce says, and look how it turned out for him.
And then she says, I'm going to kiss you now so I don't slap you.
And she leaves. And Bruce looks very sad.
We get a. A page where Alfred checks in on his daughter he was told to stay away from.
We go back to Mr. Corrupt Hill for mayor being on television with some muted pages.
So it looks like some TV coverage. Right. We've got like the.
[00:59:05] Speaker A: Right.
[00:59:06] Speaker B: The party animals doing their thing, destroying stuff with the Bat building in the background.
We've got the corrupt guy for mayor with Bullock now hanging out next to him and endorsing him.
And we get him on a Fox and Friends or Morning Joe or whatever equivalent thing we've got.
And then it. We are slowing down. I'm gearing down for a reason. Because it does. The book's gearing down right now and getting us ready for the next book. Yeah, but we get a flashback page and this page.
Yeah, you've just. This is sometimes where, you know, this is where I can't go. Panel. Panel through. You've got to read this book.
[00:59:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:59:51] Speaker B: Because this last page ties together the zoo. Right. The bats are not blind. So, like, back to why he's doing the surveillance.
[01:00:00] Speaker A: Right.
[01:00:01] Speaker B: And everything. He's got the mask, and he doesn't know what he's going to do with it.
And on TV, Batman gets offered $200 million to stand down for one week.
And not rich. Batman is.
Looks conflicted.
[01:00:32] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:33] Speaker B: Like, what could I do if I was uber rich? If I had $200 million, how much help could I do for the city?
Does it go against everything I'm going to do?
[01:00:44] Speaker A: What could I do? What.
[01:00:46] Speaker B: What will it help?
And his answer here is, I'll take it.
And I Quit reading the book.
[01:00:57] Speaker A: You didn't quit reading the book.
[01:00:58] Speaker B: I did not. I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
[01:01:02] Speaker A: Want to know?
As you should. I mean, it's. It's that good. It makes you want to keep going because you want to. You got to know why. Why would he take it? What. What. What's. What's going to happen?
[01:01:16] Speaker B: And I did. I, I, I really. I just. From a writing. I was. I was pissed by it, which I think you're supposed to be, of course. And then if you're not, from a curiosity standpoint, I wanted to know how they'd write out of it.
[01:01:29] Speaker A: I mean, there's a. There's a number of directions you can go. It's like. It's like a chessboard.
You know, you just got to figure out which piece is Bruce Wayne, AKA Batman, playing at the moment, because every piece has a unique way of moving, depending on your opening and your closing.
[01:01:52] Speaker B: Well. Well, speaking of playing and challenging.
[01:01:56] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:01:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
Since he can do it better, I challenge one Mike Tanner.
[01:02:05] Speaker A: Oh.
[01:02:06] Speaker B: Or Michael Tanner.
[01:02:08] Speaker A: A Michael Tanner.
[01:02:11] Speaker B: To come on this podcast with a book he wants us to review.
[01:02:16] Speaker A: Oh.
[01:02:18] Speaker B: Because he needs to establish his superiority.
[01:02:21] Speaker A: Oh, really?
[01:02:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:02:26] Speaker A: You're putting the challenge out there, Dan.
[01:02:28] Speaker B: I'm putting the challenge out there Again. I, I, he goes unresponded to every
[01:02:32] Speaker A: week, but it does go unresponded. You know why? Because he doesn't listen to the podcast.
[01:02:37] Speaker B: Yeah, I, I just thought it was like when Chris Jericho in WCW would challenge Goldberg every week.
[01:02:44] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[01:02:45] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm just so far below his level that he doesn't need to respond.
No, it's just like, AT and T never responds to Verizon and T Mobile
[01:02:58] Speaker A: because they're so far above.
[01:03:00] Speaker B: Well, statistically, yes. I mean, I don't do business. Well, I do do business with them now. My stupid Internet is through them.
[01:03:06] Speaker A: You know who I like better?
I'm gonna tell you, because they bought Fiverr. I, I like that one that you just have the phone that you push the one or two buttons on that you get all the crickets. No, no, the other one. What's that? The. The lightning bug, the June bug, The.
[01:03:23] Speaker B: The jitterbug.
[01:03:24] Speaker A: Jitterbug. That's the one.
[01:03:27] Speaker B: Yeah. They stole. They stole a song from an amazing artist and put it in an old person's commercial.
[01:03:34] Speaker A: I didn't steal the paper. I bought it.
That's fair.
[01:03:38] Speaker B: Do you think his estate probably needs it? I guess.
[01:03:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
The, the jitter book phone, folks. That's That's. That's the.
[01:03:52] Speaker B: That's the phone level of tech you need.
[01:03:54] Speaker A: That's really. When you think about it, do you. Do you need everything in your. Do you need everything in the palm of your hand or just something. Yes.
Do you really? Yeah. Why I use it. Do. Do you really?
[01:04:10] Speaker B: I do.
[01:04:11] Speaker A: Do you think so?
[01:04:13] Speaker B: Anyway, you know what, though? I think to relax, I think, you know, it's a good time to mention the.
Because we're wrapped up here.
[01:04:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:04:21] Speaker B: And in a reasonable time frame.
[01:04:23] Speaker A: In fact, it's amazing.
[01:04:25] Speaker B: It's probably a good idea.
[01:04:27] Speaker A: I think you putting posters into frames just put you in the right frame of mind, Dan.
[01:04:31] Speaker B: Well, I was already loving this book too, and super focused on it. But the. I will say might be a good time to remention the Retro Emporium on Meeker street in Kent, Washington. Because, you know who needs a jitterbug phone?
[01:04:44] Speaker A: Who's that?
[01:04:45] Speaker B: Well, one owner of the Retro Emporium, Anne Smith. And do you know why she needs a jitterbug phone?
[01:04:50] Speaker A: Because she's always on her phone and she needs different.
[01:04:54] Speaker B: The business is so successful that she doesn't have time to answer all the requests while she's working.
[01:05:01] Speaker A: That's true.
[01:05:02] Speaker B: That come in. And so she needs to stay laser focused on those folks that are right there. That's because people come to the Retro Emporium. And if you want to have that, if you want to smell the Fruit Loops, if you want to relive your childhood, Retro Emporium on Meeker street in Kent, Washington, you can't miss it.
And you might see Greg. You'll never see the Squacho man, and you'll see David.
[01:05:25] Speaker A: You'll see the Squacho man and you'll see David. You will sometimes you'll see Greg.
[01:05:31] Speaker B: And if you check their Instagram or their Facebook, you'll find out when bands are playing.
[01:05:37] Speaker A: That's true. We have bands. They come play.
[01:05:40] Speaker B: I feel like we just keep adding things to advertise. And of course, here in Tacoma, every.
Every third Friday of the month, you've got Friday Night frights. It's Blue Mouse Theater. I went.
[01:05:50] Speaker A: You went.
[01:05:52] Speaker B: Poster for Mark Brill for. You know what this was, Greg.
[01:05:55] Speaker A: How much was it?
[01:05:57] Speaker B: 10 bucks.
[01:05:58] Speaker A: 10 bucks.
[01:05:59] Speaker B: That's it.
[01:06:00] Speaker A: That's a steal.
[01:06:02] Speaker B: I know. And I found all about this guy.
[01:06:05] Speaker A: Oh, yeah?
[01:06:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Because, you know, zombies can learn.
[01:06:10] Speaker A: They can learn. And he liked to use it.
[01:06:13] Speaker B: This was not a good movie.
[01:06:14] Speaker A: It was a great movie, but, boy,
[01:06:16] Speaker B: was it fun to watch it In a group with a group of people laughing at all the funny parts.
[01:06:21] Speaker A: Day of the Dead or Dawn of the Dead. Which one do you like better? Probably dawn of the Dead.
[01:06:25] Speaker B: Dawn of the Dead. Both. Both versions.
[01:06:28] Speaker A: Bulk versions?
[01:06:29] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. The original and the mall.
[01:06:32] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
And the new version.
[01:06:35] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[01:06:37] Speaker A: But they're both malls.
[01:06:39] Speaker B: Oh, sorry.
[01:06:40] Speaker A: Original originally or crispy?
[01:06:46] Speaker B: Hang on, I'm getting confused.
[01:06:48] Speaker A: They're both in malls.
[01:06:50] Speaker B: Dawn of the Dead came out before Day of the Dead.
[01:06:52] Speaker A: No, no. Well, there's. There's two versions of.
[01:06:55] Speaker B: There's the second one. Yeah.
[01:06:57] Speaker A: There's. There's Night of Living Dead, dawn of the Dead.
[01:06:59] Speaker B: There's the Day of the Dead and then there's dawn of the Dead again.
[01:07:02] Speaker A: There's Day of the Dead and then dawn of. There's another dawn of the Dead. There's another.
There's two legs of the living dead, maybe three.
[01:07:09] Speaker B: I don't mean dawn of the Dead 2004.
[01:07:12] Speaker A: Why not? That's a good one.
No, I'm thinking the fast moving zombies. Slow zombies.
[01:07:18] Speaker B: Wait, I think. Well, no, I like it. I think I was talking about.
I don't know what I'm talking about.
[01:07:26] Speaker A: Do you tell every of the Dead?
[01:07:29] Speaker B: I've never seen that.
[01:07:31] Speaker A: Are you sure?
[01:07:33] Speaker B: I have seen the dawn of the Dead. Where? They're in the mall. Right. Well, that's what I'm thinking about.
[01:07:37] Speaker A: The. From the 70s, right? Yeah, yeah, that's. That's.
[01:07:41] Speaker B: And they end up on the island at the end.
[01:07:43] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. That's the original dawn of the Dead.
[01:07:45] Speaker B: Yeah, I like that movie. Okay, this movie. Not good.
[01:07:48] Speaker A: That's. That's Day of the Dead.
That's.
[01:07:51] Speaker B: I've not seen the new dawn of the Dead. I don't think.
[01:07:54] Speaker A: Oh, you should watch it.
[01:07:57] Speaker B: But I love the original. I love Night of Living Dead. I love dawn of the Dead. Day of the Dead, it was.
[01:08:04] Speaker A: Was Return of the Living Dead with the punk zombies.
[01:08:10] Speaker B: Actors were so terrible in Day of the Dead.
[01:08:12] Speaker A: You got, you. You got Return of the Living Dead, Punk rock zombies. I remember being a kid and my mom wanted USCA and I think I shouldn't have seen that movie.
[01:08:24] Speaker B: Yes.
What about Shaun of the Dead?
[01:08:30] Speaker A: Sean of the Dead?
[01:08:31] Speaker B: I have.
[01:08:31] Speaker A: I got the double feature disc of the new dawn of the Dead and Shaun of the Dead.
I had to watch Shaun of the Dead after I watched dawn of the Dead.
[01:08:41] Speaker B: Yeah, Shaun of the Dead is a fantastic.
[01:08:43] Speaker A: I needed. I needed a good laugh after I watched something that was just draining.
[01:08:48] Speaker B: Well, to get a laugh, you could watch Day of the Dead and Shaun of the Dead.
[01:08:51] Speaker A: Ah, well, I mean, of course. But I mean,
[01:08:56] Speaker B: I mean, I, I, I appreciate what they were trying to do with Day of the Dead.
I appreciated Danny Bole even more because it is fast zombies versus slow zombies.
But Danny Bole does in 25 minutes with the military people what they try to do in an hour and a half in Day of the Dead.
[01:09:19] Speaker A: Dan, you're talking about, you're talking about 28 days later.
Yeah, that's not zombies. Those are people of rage. They have a, they have a rage virus.
[01:09:29] Speaker B: Those are fast zombies.
[01:09:30] Speaker A: That's not, it's not, it's not. They're not zombies. They have a. They're people who are affected with a rage virus.
[01:09:36] Speaker B: Those are fast zombies.
[01:09:38] Speaker A: They're not zombies.
[01:09:39] Speaker B: They're dead.
[01:09:40] Speaker A: They're not dead. They are still alive. They have a rage virus. They have a rage virus.
[01:09:46] Speaker B: They're dead.
[01:09:47] Speaker A: They're not dead.
[01:09:48] Speaker B: They're dead.
[01:09:49] Speaker A: They're not dead.
[01:09:50] Speaker B: They're dead.
[01:09:51] Speaker A: Not dead.
[01:09:52] Speaker B: Yes. When people die, they get the rage virus.
[01:09:55] Speaker A: No, they don't die from the rage virus. They get the virus and then they continue living until they do die. But they don't die from the rage virus.
[01:10:05] Speaker B: Actually,
[01:10:08] Speaker A: have you watched all the movies, Dan?
[01:10:10] Speaker B: Huh?
Even the last shitty one? Yes.
[01:10:13] Speaker A: Now then you die.
Do you know how the virus works, Dan?
[01:10:18] Speaker B: You know what, Craig?
[01:10:20] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:10:20] Speaker B: For the purposes of this discussion, I would like to have two classification groups. One classification group is slow zombies. Those are the ones that go.
And then I would like fast zombies, the ones that run at you and scare you. And those are.
[01:10:35] Speaker A: And that's like Train of Busan. There you go.
[01:10:38] Speaker B: And so even if they're not technically zombies, they still fit into my classification category.
[01:10:45] Speaker A: Listeners. I want your input.
[01:10:48] Speaker B: And fast zombies destroy civilization. And slow zombies allow people to rebuild civilization around them.
That's the basic premise.
And the military can't deal with either of them.
[01:11:07] Speaker A: That's true. They can't.
[01:11:09] Speaker B: You know what could, though?
[01:11:10] Speaker A: What?
[01:11:12] Speaker B: Space force.
[01:11:15] Speaker A: A space horse.
[01:11:17] Speaker B: Space force.
[01:11:18] Speaker A: Not space horse. A space horse. Wow. A horse from space coming down and, and, and helping out. That would be pretty, pretty empowering and pretty cool.
[01:11:28] Speaker B: Well, that and the Canine Space Patrol.
[01:11:30] Speaker A: Yeah, See that? Those are two great things.
[01:11:34] Speaker B: Yes. Canine Space Patrol would be, they would be amazing.
[01:11:38] Speaker A: That's like Air Bud when he goes to space.
[01:11:41] Speaker B: No, no.
[01:11:42] Speaker A: Oh, because that was a good movie.
[01:11:44] Speaker B: I like that one.
[01:11:45] Speaker A: Oh,
[01:11:47] Speaker B: God.
[01:11:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:11:49] Speaker B: I don't think they would let airbud in.
[01:11:51] Speaker A: I, I don't know. I've seen the movie. I really enjoyed it.
I was surprised that. That dogs could fly a space shuttle, but they. They made it happen in the movie, so therefore I believe it.
Yeah, Anything is possible with movie magic, Dan.
Even your fast zombies that aren't zombies.
[01:12:13] Speaker B: I. I don't know why you're so.
Is this. Is this something I've been missing in pop culture lore forever? That this is actually a huge debate that I don't know about?
[01:12:23] Speaker A: It is. I mean, yes.
[01:12:29] Speaker B: I think those folks need to get a life.
[01:12:32] Speaker A: Danny Boyle even says they're not zombies when he's wrong.
[01:12:35] Speaker B: I don't care what he says.
[01:12:36] Speaker A: He's the guy that made the movie. Although I think it's a director bought from the comic books that
[01:12:44] Speaker B: I thought
[01:12:45] Speaker A: you're gonna be like, here's the thing about the zombies.
[01:12:49] Speaker B: No, I went to a much happier place.
[01:12:53] Speaker A: I really think the first, like, 10 minutes of 28 days later is literally the first 28 minutes or first. First 12 minutes of the Walking Dead. But, I mean, who am I?
[01:13:06] Speaker B: Oh, the Walking Dead. Completely ripped off.
Yeah, but, I mean. But then again, like, I don't want to say ripped off. I want to say use artistic license. Right? Like, it was.
[01:13:15] Speaker A: I think the Walking Dead came out. The comic book came out roughly way after.
[01:13:19] Speaker B: No way.
[01:13:20] Speaker A: It came after.
[01:13:21] Speaker B: Way, way, like, ten years after.
[01:13:24] Speaker A: Ten years after. Okay, I. I really didn't.
[01:13:27] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. The beginning of the Walking Dead is a complete ripoff of the beginning of the book. Days Later.
Yeah, both.
[01:13:34] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:13:35] Speaker B: Yeah, the comic. Yeah, it's complete ripoff.
And. But again, just like I said, I don't say complete ripoff, but the looking at the military theme and how they interacted with the people and how they did that in Day of the Dead. I mean, those two things are.
Are similar, too. I mean, I think just Danny Bole had better actors and a better script.
Right. Like, I don't know who that military guy was. The actor in Day of the Dead, he's terrible, and I think it's supposed to be that way, but. Oh, yeah, it's just, you know, it's.
He's. He's a terrible actor. I mean, I think George Romero has that ability to either, you know, do it right or do it right, and sometimes doing it right is making the characters laughable. Right. Which is. Is. Is what he's doing.
So I don't want to say it's. So when I say it's a terrible movie, I mean it's a terrible movie. But did I enjoy watching it?
[01:14:32] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:14:32] Speaker B: Oh. Oh, yeah. I loved watching it. It was fantastic.
[01:14:35] Speaker A: I think, honestly, if you want to watch something that's really good and comparable, if you were to watch the 70s crazies that he put together and then you watch the remake that was done in the 2000s, like Travis and the three of us were talking about both of billions equally good. You get, you get fast moving zombies for people who are infected and becoming zombie like.
But it's, it's interesting and you get a better representation of how the military acts or doesn't act.
[01:15:11] Speaker B: Okay, okay. By, by the way, you are.
You are correct.
[01:15:15] Speaker A: What?
[01:15:16] Speaker B: You're never gonna hear me say this again.
[01:15:17] Speaker A: The comic, the, the comic book came out before.
[01:15:20] Speaker B: No, it came out one year later.
[01:15:21] Speaker A: One year later. Okay. Yeah. So it was, it was real.
[01:15:29] Speaker B: Yeah. Even closer than I thought it was.
[01:15:32] Speaker A: So.
But I mean, I.
[01:15:36] Speaker B: That's.
[01:15:36] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:15:40] Speaker B: well, I mean, I had that.
We know that the author of the Walking Dead is the classic as a classy human, so very.
I know you're a big fan of his. No, even the Walking Dead's a really good story.
[01:15:54] Speaker A: It, you know, it might be. I mean, I, I've, I've. That's the thing is like, I, I read a little bit of it, I watched a little bit of it. I, I write stuff that is in vain, but I'm more of a Romero fan, so. Hence you'll see more Romero references in Junior Braves than you'll ever see Walking Dead.
[01:16:12] Speaker B: Yeah, but, but Kirkman and Romero, as far as how they approach zombies, is very similar.
[01:16:18] Speaker A: Well, yeah, because when, when you choose something that works well.
[01:16:24] Speaker B: But I think, I mean, I, I'm okay with some attacks on Robert Kirkman's like, attitude and demeanor and things like that, but what I will say is, though, I mean, when you start looking at zombie movies, there's basically. I mean, this. We were just talking about. There's two classifications. There's fast and slow. I mean, what else do you do?
[01:16:43] Speaker A: The way that society come up with something original, a situation occurs and how people act or don't act. Yeah, you're not wrong, because that's what
[01:16:53] Speaker B: Romero is doing through the three stories, the original three.
When it happens, what happens in the middle, and then what happens after the zombies have overrun the earth? And then what do you do then?
[01:17:03] Speaker A: I think it's interesting though, because, like, when you, when you, if you start watching the first season of the show, even if you're reading the book too, it all happens so quickly, without explanation, and it's hard to believe that something would happen so quickly. But then again it's like, okay, I guess it's. You have to suspend disbelief. I think you get a better understanding.
They play it out better in the spinoff series.
[01:17:33] Speaker B: See, I didn't watch the spin off. I quit watching, I guess what season five or six.
[01:17:38] Speaker A: I watched the first couple episodes of the spin off series because I wanted to see what the, what the take was on it and as to how things worked or whatever. Because they took it from ground ground zero essentially.
And it made more sense as to like, okay, cool. That's, that's actually in my mind how things would play out in a sense, you know, as a. From a writing perspective and from a person you study could task for humans. It's like, okay, that's how you would, that's how you would work a situation. I mean, we've seen it with Kachina, we've seen it with other, other situations and that's kind of how you would try to mitigate things like that.
[01:18:24] Speaker B: I think when you do it, the way they did it though is like with slow zombies versus fast zombies. Right. Like where the fast zombies, you have to learn about what happened, otherwise you're going to die really quickly.
[01:18:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:18:39] Speaker B: With slow zombies you can slowly. That's part of the thing. You can slowly learn about what happened, but you don't. So you don't have to. So starting it, starting Walking Dead the way they did allowed them to just ignore how it all started, Right?
[01:18:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:18:54] Speaker B: Because he's not going to know and then he's going to start interacting with people who do and he's going to be filled in and, or, you know, you're already going to have some societal structures rebuilt.
It's. I, you know, again, I know you don't like Kirkman walking Dead from start to finish the comic and ending it.
There's where I'll have respect for him as a writer. He ended the story.
He didn't try to keep going forever.
But the, but the, the TV series lost my interest.
[01:19:31] Speaker A: You keep running into the same situation over and over again.
[01:19:34] Speaker B: Yeah. For the series.
[01:19:35] Speaker A: And it's, it's like, okay, how many times can you have the same situation occur where people just don't learn from their prior experience?
[01:19:46] Speaker B: But I will say in, in the. I know it makes it into the TV series and I never got there, but the skinwalkers thing in the comic was one. Both terrifying but also just like, I did feel like he was able to come up with these different. Like, how would people react? Like and some of them were like, well, the zombies have won, so we better adapt to the zombies. Was very interesting because you talk about with zombies, how do you come up with different takes on how do you, how do you, I guess, you know, we've extended the podcast now talking about zombies. But how do you, how do you come up with a new way to tell a zombie story?
[01:20:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:20:27] Speaker B: And a new way to tell a zombie story is have the people become.
Just say they won't and then figure out how to assimilate in.
[01:20:38] Speaker A: Live within that. Well, I mean, yeah, I mean that's
[01:20:40] Speaker B: like, I don't mean live within, literally live with.
[01:20:43] Speaker A: Yeah, that's like a very quizzling type thing. But I, I would say Max Brother does a better job in Last Kids on Earth in a children's book doing the same thing for the kids. Trying to maneuver through a land of zombies and monsters.
Doing exactly that.
[01:21:05] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:21:05] Speaker A: But I mean, that's just my take. And who cares?
[01:21:08] Speaker B: What, you haven't read all of Walking Dead though.
[01:21:10] Speaker A: I, I've read enough.
[01:21:12] Speaker B: You didn't read to the part I'm talking about, though.
[01:21:15] Speaker A: I know what you're talking about. That's the thing.
Like I, I know, I, I, I've read enough bits and pieces to, to know what you're talking about. Where they've done that.
They're the skinwalkers who basically wear the zombie skin.
[01:21:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:21:34] Speaker A: And they're in the horde, surviving.
[01:21:42] Speaker B: Well. And while I'm praising all this, the worst thing they did was then end the story and then relaunch it in color from issue one.
[01:21:50] Speaker A: That's what comics do.
[01:21:52] Speaker B: You. Yeah. I hated that Junior braced.
[01:21:56] Speaker A: Just joking.
[01:21:58] Speaker B: I know that was just a cash grab, but. Yeah.
Anyway, this moment about zombies was brought to you by.
I don't know.
Zombies. So Dan, talking about going to Friday Night Frights.
[01:22:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:22:17] Speaker B: And I mean, we both love zombie stuff, so Greg more than me because he's the one that writes a book where they're mutants because they're not really zombies.
[01:22:27] Speaker A: That's right. Good job.
They're mutants, not zombies because.
[01:22:33] Speaker B: And we don't know how they've gotten that way yet.
[01:22:36] Speaker A: And you might never know.
[01:22:38] Speaker B: We might never know because we're never going to have another book.
[01:22:41] Speaker A: We're going to get another book. And you know what I'm going to say. And you know what's crazy?
Okay. Honestly.
So Comic Stromas over here. I, I had written a whole entire thing about how, how the, the meeting outbreak happened. And our original editor was like, that that's totally far fetched. There's no way that there's going to be some sort of.
There's. There's never going to be some sort of worldwide epidemic going. Going on where people are. There's going to be really some pharmaceutical companies going to need to send out all of these vaccines and vaccination kits to people so they can vaccinate people.
And that's going to. There's going to be ill effects and that's going to cause mutations in people.
And you know, like, that's far fetched. And I'm like, well, that is far fetched, but that's. That's what that. You know, like, it's not too far fetched to believe that there could be something that would cause something like that to the point where there's a need for something. And you know, that's the. That's the jumping point, right? That's. That's how you get from point A to point B. Wait, so your Q?
Yeah. Some Q this whole time.
[01:24:03] Speaker B: Holy.
[01:24:05] Speaker A: I know.
[01:24:05] Speaker B: And I don't mean Q from Star Trek.
[01:24:07] Speaker A: Oh, I'm not Q from Star Trek. Q who?
[01:24:11] Speaker B: No, I meant from QAnon.
[01:24:14] Speaker A: Oh, God. I mean, Dan, no.
Birds are not real.
You can't see the tinfoil under my hat.
[01:24:28] Speaker B: Well, I think on that note. Oh, sorry. Finish your thought.
[01:24:31] Speaker A: Oh, no, I was just gonna say. And yeah, so. So we checked that part out, but it's going back in. Damn it.
[01:24:38] Speaker B: Yeah, it's.
That definitely didn't come true.
[01:24:42] Speaker A: So none of it.
[01:24:44] Speaker B: Well, we should probably wrap this one up. I think we've. I didn't.
Oh, I did forget to plug something.
[01:24:52] Speaker A: What was that?
[01:24:55] Speaker B: I don't know. I don't even know anymore. He forgot to. Skyborg.
[01:24:59] Speaker A: Sky falling. Alex reign brings the pain from the sky.
It's insane.
[01:25:07] Speaker B: It's raining Overcast Overcast comics go there. Learn more about Alex Rain and the future of Nemesis. And you can also follow it on
[01:25:17] Speaker A: Kickstarter and you can back the cyborg movie.
[01:25:20] Speaker B: Yeah, you do that too. That's not on Kickstarter yet, though.
[01:25:24] Speaker A: Well, you can follow along and Travis will post about it.
[01:25:28] Speaker B: There's all sorts of things happening and you should go check it out because if you are into Albert Pune, then be as excited as Travis Bundy was gonna be.
[01:25:39] Speaker A: Yeah, it's gonna be pretty cool.
[01:25:41] Speaker B: All right, so that's it. We should wrap this up, but thank you. I hope you enjoyed our foray into absolute Batman number three, our side journey into zombies, and honestly too, let us know if you agree or disagree with us about the zombie and if you are a zombie fan or a zombie creator, we'd love to have you on. Come on and we'll talk about your zombie book.
[01:26:02] Speaker A: Yeah. And if you, if you.
I was going to say, if you also like to hear Dan put posters into frames, let us know.
[01:26:13] Speaker B: Oh, join us. Yeah, let us know. I mean, it's just like putting on makeup and doing the podcast. Oh, and Tony Fleeks, Heck, I'll call you out. You're never going to come on our podcast. You've never heard of our podcast. But if you want to come on here and tell us whether the animals have a rage virus or they're actually zombies in feral, we'll have that discussion. I would love to have that discussion. That would be fantastic. One of my favorite books.
I've never met Tony Fleeks. I barely follow him on social. I follow them on socials. But you know what?
Reed Ferrell, it's fantastic. All right. That's it. That's my message.
[01:26:47] Speaker A: It.
