[00:00:04] Speaker A: Oh, don't click any other buttons. [00:00:08] Speaker B: Greg, did you touch the buttons? [00:00:09] Speaker A: I didn't touch any other buttons, I swear. [00:00:12] Speaker B: Are you wearing the correct shirt? [00:00:13] Speaker A: I am wearing. I. Yeah, I click the buttons, but I. I did not click any buttons. [00:00:21] Speaker B: No, I do that now. [00:00:22] Speaker A: Yes, Dan does that now. People that are listening, if you've been listening to the show for a long time, you know, which nobody has, my ability to click the buttons has been taken away. I have lost that. That. That skill set on the show to Dan. [00:00:40] Speaker B: Well, well, we have a guest again. We do Honeybook Forensics, by the way. We were taught by two guests ago that were supposed to actually say the name of the show during the intro, which is so tedious. I know, but Bobby is here, fellas. [00:00:57] Speaker C: It's a pleasure. And on that subject, I gotta say, it's. It's odd that we have to mention the name of the show up front, as if someone's just tuning in by accident. [00:01:05] Speaker A: They just stumbled upon it. [00:01:07] Speaker C: Like when you're. When you're that podcast radio station where there's just something playing all. [00:01:11] Speaker B: You know, it would be cool if we were on a podcast radio station. You know, it would be an amazing podcast radio station. What's that like, podcast? And then you stop and you read a letter by T.M. maple. Oh, yeah, from an 80s comic book. And then you go back to doing another podcast. [00:01:31] Speaker A: Just a. Like a. Like a station. Station identification break. But it's the TM Maple letter. [00:01:39] Speaker B: But it's one of those long assets with everyone again. [00:01:42] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:44] Speaker C: Yep. A maple one. [00:01:45] Speaker A: A Maple minute. [00:01:46] Speaker C: Holy. [00:01:47] Speaker B: A maple. That could be the name of the book that somebody writes. The collection of T.M. maple letters. [00:01:52] Speaker C: The Maple Minute. [00:01:53] Speaker A: Crap. Bobby, that is why you're here. [00:01:56] Speaker B: The Maple Minute. [00:01:57] Speaker C: Well, my work here is done, gentlemen. Thank you for having me. I'm gonna hit the button. [00:02:00] Speaker A: We're done now, everybody. Wow. Fastest podcast for the funny book forensics crew here. Two minutes. [00:02:07] Speaker B: So Bobby does things right. It's true. [00:02:11] Speaker A: He does. [00:02:13] Speaker C: Surely he does things. [00:02:16] Speaker B: Greg, that. That was your. [00:02:18] Speaker C: Oh, my gosh. [00:02:19] Speaker A: Greg. [00:02:20] Speaker B: Like, Greg. I think he's invite guests on the podcast. [00:02:23] Speaker C: I think he's teeing you up. [00:02:25] Speaker B: Throw to you. [00:02:26] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:26] Speaker B: And then you introduce the guest. He like. So Greg, Bobby does things right? [00:02:32] Speaker A: Bobby. Bobby does things. Bobby is. Is one of the hosts of the Grind Bin, is a podcast that. That. That he hosts with Mike Wood and is basically like. I mean, every movie out there that. That you've never seen before, you get a verbal washing. [00:02:56] Speaker B: Every movie. [00:02:56] Speaker C: I haven't And I wish I'd recorded that. [00:02:59] Speaker B: Every movie I haven't seen. [00:03:01] Speaker C: Well, every movie. [00:03:02] Speaker A: Every movie, like from what, 85 and below, or sometimes more or less. [00:03:08] Speaker C: What we did to him even earlier than that. Greg. We tend to specialize in grindhouse exploitation movies and. And related and things that. Spawned from that, things that led to that, things of that nature. It's a fun show. Every week we take a different movie, some kind of forgotten movie, some kind of oddity, and we go scene by scene and dissect it. And Greg's been on the show at this point, I'm going to say, five different times. He is a. He's a beloved fixture at this point. He's a friend of the show. [00:03:35] Speaker A: Oh, no, my cockles are warmed. [00:03:37] Speaker B: I see that. Like four episodes ago, we were talking about this movie. Well, we were talking about the second version of this movie before the podcast, inadvertently. But you reviewed walking tall from 1970. [00:03:50] Speaker C: We did. That was a hell of an episode where we broke down not only the film, but also the real life scenarios that were going on behind the scenes, which is crazier than the movie itself. [00:04:01] Speaker B: That's a. That is a wild story. [00:04:04] Speaker C: Cuz. That Pusser guy was full of, man. [00:04:06] Speaker B: Dude, he was not Walking Tall. [00:04:10] Speaker C: No, not nearly. [00:04:12] Speaker B: He was a. He was a murderer, I believe. [00:04:16] Speaker C: Yeah, but. But Greg has joined us for. What was it, island of the Fishmen. AKA Screamers. [00:04:22] Speaker A: Right. [00:04:23] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, he joined us for a. Was it, uh, Champions of Justice, where. Where legendary luchador Blue Demon leads his own squad of expendables on their motorcycles? [00:04:34] Speaker A: Yes. [00:04:36] Speaker C: Incredible. [00:04:37] Speaker A: It was little, like, okay, pre Danhausen. Little mini. [00:04:43] Speaker B: Well, I know who Blue Demon is. [00:04:45] Speaker A: Well, yes. No, no, but there was. There was. Of course there was many luchadors. Many, many luchadors. [00:04:52] Speaker C: Our villain has an army of little people that are. That he has souped up. He's given them basically the quantum bands from Marvel Comics and gave him super strength. And so you get to watch a bunch of little people kick Blue Demon in his friend's ass and punch him in the nuts. [00:05:05] Speaker B: Yeah. You know that you almost. [00:05:07] Speaker C: And. [00:05:07] Speaker B: And those made Rey Mysterio be a mini, which is silly because you have a height threshold in Lucha libre and if you're under a certain height, you're a mini. [00:05:20] Speaker C: Absolutely. Like Demus, for example, is considered a mini. But then I don't think he even has dwarfism. I think he's just a short dude. [00:05:28] Speaker B: And they. Well, I think Greg and I have talked about El Santo movies before. Yes. [00:05:37] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:38] Speaker B: As. [00:05:39] Speaker C: Absolutely. [00:05:40] Speaker B: As. As Everyone should. I mean, El Santo and Santa Claus is like, you know, some, some great stuff. There's. I think, I think we were watching. Weren't we watching, like, El Santo meets the. The Mummy or something like that? [00:05:55] Speaker A: I think so, yeah. [00:05:57] Speaker B: I don't know it. Or El Santo meets vampires. [00:06:00] Speaker A: Or there's. [00:06:00] Speaker C: There's the Santo versus the vampire women. I think that was it at the end. He's running around with a torch and he's just like opening coffins and burning bodies. Running. [00:06:11] Speaker B: Years ago, one of my former students was translating it for me as we were going. [00:06:15] Speaker C: Oh, that's awesome. [00:06:16] Speaker B: It was, it was fascinating. Well, we didn't come here to talk about El Santo, though, even though El Santo was here. [00:06:25] Speaker A: Oh, yes. [00:06:26] Speaker B: I, I'm sad today because I'm sorry to hear that I'm wearing my Dolly Parton. [00:06:33] Speaker C: We're all sad today. Honestly, this is some, Some bad timing to record a. Record a show because the passing of Dolly Parton happening just hours ago at the time of this recording. [00:06:44] Speaker B: Yeah, it's, it's, it, it's. Dolly Parton is kind of awesome and [00:06:51] Speaker C: like the template for how to be a good person. [00:06:54] Speaker B: And, you know, I. Obviously, Eli Tomlin and Jane Fonda were a big part of it, but 9 to 5 still holds up. [00:07:03] Speaker C: Yeah. Classic. [00:07:03] Speaker B: And absolutely that. You know, it's interesting because Network came out around the same time. Correct. And those two movies were very predictive. Like 9 to 5 was reflexive of corporate culture, but also predictive of what corporate culture would be and still is. And Network, of course, predicted the entire television media, news media landscape that we have right now. [00:07:33] Speaker C: That's one of those that just keeps getting more prescient like, like robocop or Idiocracy. [00:07:39] Speaker B: Yeah. And yes, it's amazing too how they both films were just dead on, including, like the parody in nine to five of the incompetent leadership that just doesn't know what they're doing. [00:07:54] Speaker A: What. [00:07:55] Speaker B: And you know how that's become more. You know, it's just, it's, you know, it's. Well, that. I mean, Jeff Bezos just announced he's selling a bunch of shares of Amazon, which means he doesn't think Amazon is. I can't speak for Jeff Bezos. I don't. He never said this out loud, but I guess that means he thinks the company is no longer, quote, unquote, day one. Right. He must think it's gone to a new place. [00:08:22] Speaker C: And I mean, historically, it's only ever a good sign when the guy who Runs a company, starts selling off his stock. Like that means good times are coming. [00:08:31] Speaker B: One, he doesn't run the company anymore. [00:08:34] Speaker C: Oh, right. [00:08:35] Speaker A: What? [00:08:36] Speaker B: Yeah, but. And that's, that's probably part of it, but yeah, it's, it's fascinating. You start to watch the. And then of course Dolly, just some of the greatest interviews of all time. Of course she had the Larry King interview where he's like, well, gay people like your music. And she's like, yeah, I love people. [00:08:56] Speaker C: Yeah. What's that got to do with me? [00:08:58] Speaker B: You know, people should love people, right? It's I love gay. While she said I love gay people, I love everyone. Like that's. And, and where else can you get like a 20 pound apple pie and a cast iron skillet, you know, than going to Dollywood? [00:09:16] Speaker C: We've got one of those cast iron skillets and I swear by it. [00:09:19] Speaker B: I think it took the whole thing home. Right? Yeah, that's absolutely. [00:09:23] Speaker C: Took the pie and the skillet and [00:09:24] Speaker B: that's, you know, it's when you start to think about, you know, her contributions are endless. And I love the fact too that she could always laugh at herself. I probably didn't age well, but the Saturday Night Live sketch where she told them to shoot her from the top. Like she told them, they, they didn't plan this. She said no, the joke is. And you know, they shot her from the top. Right. And angled the whole thing down on her the entire time and she's like that's the joke. Like I live with that. Like that's. And just her, I believe, great nephew. But talking today, the announcement from the family. She said she asked to be buried in all cotton because she's been. Wants to be comfortable because she's been carrying those rhinestones a lot around too long. I even, even to the end, you know, just a sense of humor, happiness, joy. I. How do you think of anything but joy when you think of Dolly Parton? [00:10:26] Speaker C: You can't. Like it's impossible to dislike Dolly Parton. [00:10:30] Speaker A: You can't. [00:10:31] Speaker B: And holds up through time too. Didn't get old and change. [00:10:36] Speaker C: Yeah. It turns out that's possible that you can just stay true to your values and true to yourself and the whole way. [00:10:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Unlike. [00:10:43] Speaker C: Because it was real and she didn't follow anything. She just. [00:10:46] Speaker B: Not that I'm thinking about anybody we're going to talk to about today, but yeah, [00:10:53] Speaker C: We're just gonna, we're gonna keep that theme of just the real. [00:10:55] Speaker A: The realist. Yes. Never always being true to oneself and, and, and holding that Line. [00:11:04] Speaker B: Well, I think Dolly Parton would tell you there wasn't anything real on her at. You know, there was another interview where they asked her how long it took. Somebody asked her how long it took to do her hair, and she said, I have no idea. I'm never there. One of the great lines in the history of interviews, too. Yeah. So we're sad we lost an icon and a legend today and. But interestingly enough, we're going to be covering a comic book written by another legend that, you know, Greg and I have covered on the podcast in the past. Many times, in fact. Lots of defenders, lots of destroyer duck. Greg is. Greg is not a fan of Howard the Duck at all. [00:11:48] Speaker A: No, not at all. [00:11:49] Speaker B: Oh, no. [00:11:50] Speaker C: I can't stand it. I understand it's one of your least. [00:11:51] Speaker A: One of my least favorite books. I. I don't have any of them in my collection. None whatsoever. [00:11:58] Speaker B: Has the Grind Bin podcast covered Howard the Duck? [00:12:02] Speaker C: We have not. Which. So one day that might have to happen. We'll have to make sure that. [00:12:08] Speaker A: I don't know. I don't know. Okay, suppose the. [00:12:16] Speaker B: And you can have me on when you cover. Like, I'll. I'll think of something. [00:12:22] Speaker C: Please do. I'll get you on the schedule. I'm the one who controls that. I. I hand. I have the book, Brother. Brother. [00:12:27] Speaker A: I. I don't. [00:12:29] Speaker B: I'll probably want to cover things that nobody else wants to talk about. Oh, yeah, here. We can cover a movie. We can cover a movie. You did. Nobody wants to cover but me. Okay. But anyway. All right, we'll go from that. [00:12:44] Speaker A: He just like leaves it there. [00:12:45] Speaker B: Yeah, well, you know, I mean, he [00:12:48] Speaker C: got a thousand yard stare for a moment. [00:12:50] Speaker B: He went somewhere. [00:12:50] Speaker A: He went so deep into danism. [00:12:53] Speaker C: Probably he heard the nom. Helicopters in his head. Just kind of. [00:12:57] Speaker B: I hope you all talked over that comment. That was perfect. So hopefully nobody picked that up. But the. Yeah. [00:13:05] Speaker A: So. [00:13:06] Speaker B: Well, Bobby asked us to cover a comic. I know. And funny book forensics. [00:13:12] Speaker A: What book? Comic book on this show. [00:13:15] Speaker B: And I'm already bringing it up, which is terrifying. [00:13:17] Speaker A: This is terrifying. Dan, you haven't even got to the 30 minute mark, you son of a bitch. [00:13:23] Speaker B: Well, when we hit the 30 minute mark, we might lose the whole show. [00:13:26] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. [00:13:29] Speaker B: Apparently Marvel. You know, Marvel and DC both got these ideas in the 70s and you know, we've covered the. We've covered the DC, I would say the DC equivalent of this book, which we covered Muhammad Ali versus Superman on an episode and DC got this idea to release a Bunch of tabloid books. And one of the books that they decided to go out and contract was with Muhammad Ali. But it took a little bit to get that going. And apparently also this book has a history of taking a while to get going too with contracts and appearances. And I think. I think the Muhammad Ali book came out after this because it didn't come out in 78. [00:14:14] Speaker C: Yes. And this was 76. [00:14:17] Speaker B: All working through the. All working through different contracts and different things. Actually, we're back here so I can pull it out and look. But yeah, I don't think I'm going to be getting the Kiss book that we're not talking about today. Bobby told me it might be out of my price range. [00:14:34] Speaker C: Yeah. You know, it being a Kiss collectible and the. Well, you're not part of the Kiss Army, Dan. You're not. You're not drinking a cold gin. You're not ready to shout it out loud. You're not gonna lick it up. [00:14:45] Speaker B: Electrolytes in. [00:14:49] Speaker C: You can lick that up good enough. But. But yeah, I looked into this and it being a Kiss collectible, this thing's worth a deuce. Like, it is a bit difficult to get a hold of for less than a several hundred dollars. [00:15:02] Speaker B: I was, I. I was not allowed to be in the Kiss army as a child. I wasn't allowed to watch Kiss on tv. My parents forbid watching Kiss because they had a demon classic and face paint and stuff. They were okay with Menudo, but I wasn't interested. Not at the time. The. [00:15:23] Speaker A: The soup, it's delicious. [00:15:24] Speaker B: I was probably interested more in it now. At least the lead singer for a while. I. I don't blame you. [00:15:32] Speaker C: No, he's looking good today too. You look great in the Super Bowl. But you know, I could. It would have been odd watching Kiss on TV because Kiss debuted on TV at the Paul Lind Halloween and see, [00:15:45] Speaker B: that's something I need to go back and watch because Paul Lynde is also a national treasure. [00:15:50] Speaker C: I mean, absolutely. It's. It's amazing. You do have to watch this. We covered it behind a paywall on our Patreon. And it was phenomenal. Not only Paul and his segments, but actually the Kiss performances too. It's the first time they ever performed on television. So they brought it for that Paul [00:16:06] Speaker B: and I mean I have on my Facebook feed. Feed is all like him on Hollywood Square is just telling jokes like that is on my feed. So I can see it. [00:16:16] Speaker C: How many men on a hockey team? About half. [00:16:22] Speaker B: Yeah, I go watch that Holland and. And Charles Nelson. Riley on. On the Match Game. Yeah. If I could just watch the comments from Paul Lyndon on Hollywood Squares and Charles Nelson Riley on the Match Game. Like it just make my day for hours. [00:16:36] Speaker C: That's all you need. You know, forget cable, forget all the streaming services. If you just get access to that, you're good. [00:16:42] Speaker B: That and apparent and the. And not that it will come up today, but apparently they are. They now have a WCW live stream on YouTube where they're just playing old WCW stuff. You get on with other people and comment about it all like 300 people that might be watching it at some time. [00:17:01] Speaker C: Hell yeah. There is a. There is a old school heavy metal slash pro wrestling themed beachside burger shack near my house. It's amazing. It's called Grill Them all and they have a big TV up on the wall that is always pretty much almost always streaming that WCW live stream. It's just. You'll go in there and watch some like from 91, you know, like RoboCop saving sting. [00:17:25] Speaker B: I mean RoboCop saving sting is important. Or like Oz coming out. You know, like literally there was an [00:17:33] Speaker C: Oz match on the last. [00:17:34] Speaker B: Well, there you go. See, there's nothing like green. [00:17:36] Speaker C: Like you nailed it. You hit it right on the hits. [00:17:38] Speaker B: That's Kevin Nash. Matches were always such quality anyway. You know this. [00:17:46] Speaker C: You want to watch him Frankenstein walk for a little while and occasionally hit somebody. [00:17:50] Speaker B: In his defense, he did get into wrestling after like four knee surgeries. That's before he even started. So probably wasn't going to move around too well ever. But yeah, I mean that, you know, Shawn Michaels was around really good. So when he got into WWF it looked. [00:18:06] Speaker C: That's a good partner you need. You need the dude who stands perfectly still while the other guy dances around him in a circle. It's a. Yeah. [00:18:12] Speaker B: I mean not to get distracted with wrestling, but WWE brought big cast back and then didn't make him a. Like a. A big partner to a little guy. They have him in actual matches where he has to like wrestle for a few minutes. [00:18:28] Speaker C: Oh, it's like when Test came back. [00:18:30] Speaker B: It's not. Not too well. [00:18:32] Speaker C: Hopefully not. Oh, Chris Masters. Yeah, that's classic. That dude's still around. He like does the Indies and it's just like. But there's no real point to him anymore. He's just stands out. It's a dude who used to do a full nelson. [00:18:50] Speaker B: The Master lock. I'll put Greg in the master lock next time we're at. [00:18:55] Speaker C: Greg's gonna do the Master Lock challenge against me. [00:18:59] Speaker A: No. [00:19:00] Speaker B: You don't want to do the Master Lock challenge? [00:19:02] Speaker C: No, actually, I really like this idea. You should incorporate this into the show. That's how your episode. You just suddenly. You just suddenly go put Greg in a submission hold until he passes out. And then the feed cuts. [00:19:14] Speaker B: And see, I said we were going to talk about the comic book, and look what I did. It's amazing. [00:19:18] Speaker C: And then off we go. [00:19:21] Speaker B: Well, I mean, just like I have started to acquire some superpowers over the years. We are going to find out how Kiss got superpowers. [00:19:33] Speaker A: They have superpowers. [00:19:35] Speaker C: Apparently. Believe it or not, the four who are one have superpowers. [00:19:41] Speaker A: I didn't read this book yet. [00:19:44] Speaker B: But before we. Before we start, should I. Should I share the four ways I was gonna rage bait Bobby? Okay. [00:19:53] Speaker C: Yes, please. [00:19:53] Speaker B: I've already sent these to Bobby. So he's aware. [00:19:56] Speaker A: He's aware. [00:19:57] Speaker B: Number one was. I was going to say, to prepare for today, I listened to Kiss's best song, Beth, [00:20:04] Speaker C: that does almost rage Beat me. That's. Beth is a terrible song. I. I don't know. Some listeners might disagree with me, especially dudes around in the 70s. I don't get the point in that song. [00:20:15] Speaker B: Well, you see, they're singing and they can't find the sound. And then Beth is true. [00:20:24] Speaker C: And Beth's on the phone, and, like, she's telling Peter, come home. And he's like, but the boys gotta [00:20:29] Speaker B: keep playing because the boys are. You know. And so. And then. But then there's a whole nother verse about. I think it's. I think the second verse inspired Steel Panthers. Community property. [00:20:43] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, yeah, absolutely is. [00:20:46] Speaker B: When he's at home, he's with Beth, but when he's on the road, he's with the boys. [00:20:52] Speaker C: It. He's with the boys. [00:20:54] Speaker B: Community property. [00:20:56] Speaker C: Oh, you see? And I appreciate that kind of representation. You see a lot of. A lot of accidental queer anthems in the KISS catalog. Like, even you listen to. You listen to Shout It Out Loud. We still get rowdy with the girls and boys. Everybody's got to make a statement. [00:21:10] Speaker B: I will say, I think Steel Panther was implying they were with the other girls, not the boys. [00:21:14] Speaker A: Oh. [00:21:15] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Yeah. Well, I had a couple of others here. [00:21:18] Speaker C: I think I'm projecting. [00:21:19] Speaker B: I actually prefer Dean Simmons solo act when he was singing Frank Sinatra show tunes. [00:21:27] Speaker C: Yeah, that. That solo album is. He's doing when you wish upon a Star. And, like, we don't. What are we doing, man? Like, I'm already feeling. It's. It's rising in me. [00:21:37] Speaker B: Well, here we go. I actually prefer the MAGA Republican Jean Simmons. [00:21:43] Speaker C: Guys, I gotta go. [00:21:49] Speaker B: And of course, there's gonna be a 4.1 and then a 4.2. As a Legion of Superheroes fan number one, the only star man I acknowledge in music is David Bowie. [00:22:03] Speaker C: You know, that's fair. That's. [00:22:05] Speaker B: And the only starboy I can't argue. Star child I acknowledge is Tom Kaler. [00:22:13] Speaker C: Man, if only. If only Paul Stanley had a legionnaire ring. Right? [00:22:18] Speaker B: If he had a flight ring. [00:22:21] Speaker C: Now, granted, you know, as we established in today's episode, they are Marvel characters, so it doesn't really work that way. [00:22:28] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, well, they could if there was a crossover. I mean, well. Oh, yeah. [00:22:36] Speaker B: I always have them handy. [00:22:38] Speaker A: He does. Yeah. [00:22:39] Speaker C: They're always around. [00:22:40] Speaker B: It's very important to have them. You never know when you're gonna need one. [00:22:43] Speaker C: I, I totally understand. I've got multiple green. [00:22:48] Speaker B: And I'm gonna get some more. [00:22:49] Speaker C: We're ready. [00:22:50] Speaker B: In case anything happens, Green Lantern rings are coming with my card game, I believe. [00:22:53] Speaker A: Ah. [00:22:54] Speaker C: Oh, nice. [00:22:55] Speaker A: You're getting more. [00:22:56] Speaker C: Are they meant to look like the current dcu? [00:22:59] Speaker B: I don't know. I have no idea. Because they're coming with the cryptozoic new DC card game Green Lantern thing that launched today as well. [00:23:08] Speaker A: What if it's just dead stock? Are the ones that they gave away like five years ago? [00:23:13] Speaker C: Yeah, those plastic ones from when, When Jeff Johns took over the book and they put out. [00:23:19] Speaker B: I think I have those for everything. [00:23:20] Speaker A: I know. [00:23:21] Speaker C: You just couldn't get rid of those fast. [00:23:25] Speaker B: Kept giving them out. But have a ring. [00:23:27] Speaker C: You could do that cover where he's got all the rings out. [00:23:30] Speaker B: Well, I, I love. I mean, I was explaining. We. I watched the second episode of Lanterns with one of my roommates and I was explaining some things. [00:23:42] Speaker C: Oh, were you, Were you doing it like a, like a, A college professor during film class where, like, you're pausing it and going, okay, so when he said Mogo doesn't socialize, what he means by that? [00:23:53] Speaker B: Well, I, I was. When, when they mentioned Mogo, I started laughing for like five minutes. And I'm just being looked at like, what is so funny? [00:24:01] Speaker C: Like Max, Katie and Cape Fear. [00:24:03] Speaker B: And I'm like, I did have to closet explain [00:24:07] Speaker A: Dan sitting behind his roommate, smoking a cigar, just laughing, cackling. [00:24:16] Speaker B: Oh, it happens. I, I, I, Yeah, there was. There are some parts of the show that I'm waiting for Matter Eater Lad to show up. [00:24:27] Speaker C: Hell yeah. I mean, he's bound. [00:24:29] Speaker B: Even though he should be in the 31st century, but we're not going to worry about that. [00:24:34] Speaker C: We can fix that later. We just got to get him on there. [00:24:37] Speaker B: Apparently, he's going to be on the. The Guerrilla Garage show. [00:24:42] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. Which. Interesting idea for a show. Like doing the mockumentary. Like when you watch the messy docs, like doing one of those. That's pretty fun. And honestly, the. The Daily Planet staff was a. One of the highlights of that. [00:24:56] Speaker B: Super. Apparently it's kind of supposed to be loosely based off of what Matt Fraction was doing with Jimmy Olsen in the maxi series. Obviously, it's not that because Matt brought in all the different versions of Jimmy Olsen from, like, the Silver Age and, you know, all the different things, which was glorious. But, yeah, I think there. It's supposed to be kind of that spirit, and I think that the Jimmy Olsen the movie kind of had that spirit to him too. [00:25:22] Speaker C: Yeah, definitely. And that's. That's what makes me look forward to this. I think it's. If it's gonna have the tone, it's gonna be great. [00:25:28] Speaker B: And. And there's supposed to be a lot of cameos, obviously, which would make sense. Yeah, I think it'll have. I mean, I think it'll have the tone of the. It sounds like it'll kind of have the tone of like the she Hulk comic book, which. [00:25:41] Speaker C: It's what I wanted the she Hulk show to be. You know, I was like, this would be great if it's. If basically what I'm looking for is Harvey Birdman. If you could bring me Harvey Birdman in a live action series in some. In some spiritual manner. Like, I'm. I'm good. [00:25:55] Speaker B: Well, in the. In the five years later legion in the late 80s, early 90s, Tenzil chem matter Eater Lad had already eaten the Miracle Machine. And so they argued that he could sort of manifest things because he had eaten this thing that could grant wishes. And so he. He had his own reality show called Tensil for the Defense and other reality shows. And he would just go around the galaxy doing reality shows because he could just manifest things that he wanted to happen in the show. [00:26:29] Speaker C: Man, I can see that being a [00:26:31] Speaker B: direction to go in. [00:26:31] Speaker C: Yes. [00:26:32] Speaker B: And so he will probably get an appearance just because James Gunn probably read those books and just wants to give the cameo acknowledgment to Keith Giffen and the beer bombs for doing that in the story that he's taking. I would. Yeah. It's interesting. I know some people don't like the new DC universe, and we're not supposed to be talking about that. We're going to talk about Kiss not getting distracted at all. [00:26:57] Speaker C: It's okay. It's okay. It all builds. I meant to paint my face today, but it's hot as in California right now, so it would look terrible if I tried to do any kind of. Any kind of Kiss face paint. [00:27:09] Speaker B: Well, I mean, there's. Well, we've got Kiss face paint in the comic and we only have three different artists drawing it or four. So everything will be fine at least. [00:27:20] Speaker C: I mean, we got blood in the comic. [00:27:22] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I mean, and, and we do. We have blood in the comic. It says so right here on the COVID Printed in real Kiss blood, which is. And, and they are nice enough to. I loved reading those pages. In the middle of this, they have pictures of them having their blood drawn [00:27:41] Speaker C: standing around at the American Red Cross, [00:27:43] Speaker B: which is a choice to include blood draws in. In a, in a story. Not in the story, but in the. In the. In this. There was a choice. It wasn't my favorite choice, but it was a choice also. It was a choice to have four different artists draw this book. [00:28:02] Speaker A: That's what makes it stand out. [00:28:03] Speaker C: I. I reckon that was a time issue, right? Is that why they. They just had dudes cranking it out? Dudes cranking it? [00:28:11] Speaker B: Yes. I mean, it got delayed and then when they got. You want the best, they were like flying on it. Yeah, [00:28:20] Speaker C: that makes a lot of sense. I should probably explain why I. Oh yeah. [00:28:23] Speaker B: Why did you pick this before I launched, I think a cover. [00:28:27] Speaker A: Why. [00:28:27] Speaker C: Why did you pick it now? I. I'm. My relationship with Kiss is interesting. I had, you know, that classic scenario where you enjoy something ironically for so long that it kind of begins not being ironic anymore. Like you start to forget that you're supposed to be enjoying this ironically. I do this with a lot of things. I really like a lot of 70s and 80s head scratching Americana. Like, I lump Kiss with like the Harlem Globetrotters and Evel Knievel, you know, these are. These. What the hell were we all doing? Like, why did this get so popular? Kind of things. And we covered Kiss meets the Phantom of the park on my show, which is an incredible film, if you guys haven't seen that. And I fell in love with that movie because it is just an absolute shit show of a film. A couple behind the scenes bits about Kiss, me as a Phantom of the Park. Peter Chris was so strung out when they made this that none of his dialogue picked up when they recorded it was just. He was kind of mumbling like Dan Haggerty. And they said, can you come back in and do the looping? And he said, no. And so Hannah Barbera, who produced this, had to bring in a guy to dub him. And the guy they got to dub him was the guy who goes on to voice Duke on G.I. [00:29:46] Speaker A: joe. [00:29:46] Speaker B: Okay? [00:29:48] Speaker C: And so while the other three members of Kiss are talking, you know, like the Cowardly lion, the. Suddenly Peter Chris is talking like this while you are visibly watching him pass out. [00:30:02] Speaker B: Okay? [00:30:03] Speaker C: The other really great thing about Kiss meets Fan of the park is Ace Freely. Whenever he felt like he'd done enough for the day, regardless of what was left to shoot, he had a moped he kept right off set, he'd just hop on it and leave. Full makeup, full suit, just driving away on a moped. And so there are scenes in this movie where they had to get his stunt double to sit in for him. His stunt double was African American. And so for a handful of scenes throughout that movie, you suddenly have black Ace. [00:30:30] Speaker B: Okay? [00:30:31] Speaker C: Like, this dude looks like Tim Meadows. It's amazing. He looks nothing like Ace Freely. And. And so it is just an insane show. And what I discovered, because they have superpowers in that movie, is that this was established in a Marvel comic, and I sought out that Marvel comic that explains why they have superpowers in their. In their movie where they're just trying to play a concert at Magic Mountain. [00:30:59] Speaker B: Okay. I mean, that. That makes total sense. And it's right here. [00:31:04] Speaker C: And upon reading it, I was like, you guys got to read this. Like, I had. I had to bring it to you when Greg was like, do you want to come on the show? It was like, I got just the fingers. [00:31:11] Speaker B: And not only do they have superpowers, but these superpowers were created by Steve Gerber, who created Howard the Doc. [00:31:18] Speaker A: Yes. And. And. And it makes so much sense as to why I like this and why. Like, because also, like that movie, as a kid, I watched that movie so many times, my parents are like, okay, well, at least he's not setting fire to the neighborhood. [00:31:35] Speaker B: I've never seen this movie, and I don't think I would have been allowed to watch it. [00:31:39] Speaker A: Oh, it's fantastic. I should lend you my copy. [00:31:44] Speaker C: Yeah, it's the way it's meant to be seen. [00:31:48] Speaker B: Well, it's weird because they got Gerber and then they got Alan Weiss to pencil this, which is weird. It's not that Alan Weiss is a bad penciler. It's just not. You'd think, like, if you were doing a major crossover book and just kind of thinking about probably how Roy Thomas thought about. Because Roy Thomas, I believe, was the editor in chief when this came. And you think about how Roy Thomas the comic book historian and you know, like Stan Lee's coffee boy and you know, then writer of the Avengers. And then, you know, we love Roy for his history stuff. We just don't like it when he says he co created Wolverine. But everything else, we love Roy, you know, keeping Tomorrow Publishing, which I have one of their books over here mentioned Kiss and you know, love those things about him. Don't love it when he just doesn't show up at SummerCon on the first day when Greg and I want to get dm. [00:32:51] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:32:53] Speaker B: So, you know, so you know, it's kind of a love hate relationship. But we love, we love zoo animal books, you know, from, you know, it's so, you know, it's Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew. I mean, who, who didn't love that? [00:33:06] Speaker A: Who didn't? [00:33:08] Speaker C: Impossible. [00:33:09] Speaker B: But, you know, you kind of look at, I guess it looks like that this guy was doing some Howard the Duck, maybe how he got in here. So working with Steve. But you'd think, you know, you're doing a major production, right? And I'm thinking about the book we were comparing this to before Superman. So DC has the tabloid sized books. Marvel decides to do some tabloid size books, right? And they have Marvel Spectacular. Marvel Spectacular was a regular size book, right. And these are super spectacular. So they're tabloid size books, right. Which makes sense. [00:33:47] Speaker C: So when you're reading this on the subway, everybody can see it. [00:33:50] Speaker B: And of course, over time, you know, they get Steve Gerber, who's one of their top writers to do this. And D.C. does the opposite. They go get, you know, they go get Neil Adams to draw, draw Muhammad Ali, right? Like so they're not playing around. In fact, they had to get Neil Adams back, right? They had to get him. It took so long to get the contract back. Neil Adams was out advocating for artist rights and DC had to go get him and pay him to do that book. You would think Marvel would get one of their top artists. And then Greg and I already disagree already, but then we get this cover and I don't know what this cover is. I'm gonna say the interiors that Weiss does look way better than the COVID [00:34:40] Speaker C: man. So what did you have? What bothered you about this cover? Now we're discussing the full wraparound. [00:34:46] Speaker B: Yeah, we can talk about the full wraparound. The front, the back cover is great. But if we're putting this on a newsstand and we're trying to sell Kiss. Like this, they're like. There's no. I don't know how to. Greg, tell me why I hate this. Like, it's because they're like. They're just. It's like somebody just drew the four Kiss characters and then pasted them onto. [00:35:23] Speaker A: Onto a rock. [00:35:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:35:26] Speaker C: I mean, it just looks like one other album. [00:35:28] Speaker B: No, no, that album comes. Bring your album cover back. See. [00:35:31] Speaker C: Oh, I have the Destroyer portion of there. [00:35:34] Speaker B: Right. They're all standing. They're all jumping this one. [00:35:38] Speaker C: They are all, you know, just point of comparison again. [00:35:43] Speaker A: They're. [00:35:44] Speaker B: You can see the differences. Right. Like, the album covers actually are much better. [00:35:50] Speaker C: I. I don't know why Ace is playing an invisible keyboard on the COVID of this comic book. [00:35:56] Speaker B: Yeah, he just. [00:35:58] Speaker C: It's odd choice. Gene is kicking Paul Stanley. [00:36:01] Speaker A: I thought Ace was holding a. An invisible sandwich, [00:36:06] Speaker C: man. He's. [00:36:07] Speaker A: He's. [00:36:07] Speaker C: He's making a sandwich. He's. He's adding. [00:36:09] Speaker B: And I'm not sure what Peter Chris is doing either. He's squatting for some reason. [00:36:13] Speaker C: Well, he's a cat, so I think [00:36:15] Speaker B: we all know what he's about to do. [00:36:16] Speaker A: Yes. [00:36:19] Speaker B: And he's about to scrape. Oh, he's done probably. He's now scraping it. [00:36:22] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:36:24] Speaker C: He's trying to cover something up. And Paul Stanley is pointing a gas at something behind us, which is not the. The villain of our story because the villain of our stories on the other side of the wraparound. So what is Paul terrified of? [00:36:38] Speaker A: Parents? Because he just don't understand. [00:36:41] Speaker C: Oh, no, it's the. The moms against Kiss. [00:36:44] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [00:36:45] Speaker B: I assume that was a thing, a real thing. [00:36:47] Speaker C: Yeah, to a degree. Yeah. That wasn't exactly like it was in the movie, of course, but, yeah, people definitely were. They didn't know what to make of Kiss. It was like the satanic panic that happened with movies, which is so bizarre for a band like Kiss, because you listen to any other songs and it's just, you know, who wants to have a little. Oh, before we rock it roll. We were like, this is the. [00:37:09] Speaker A: Well, it's. [00:37:10] Speaker B: I mean, it's the Persona. Right? They acknowledge that the Persona is their band. Right. Like this. Not an insult to Kiss. I don't think it's an insult to Kiss to say that the. The talent was good, but the talent gets over because of the Personas. Not the other way around, 100%, though. [00:37:31] Speaker C: A little bit of history for you. They started Gene and Paul were in a band called Wicked Lester and which, if you look that up on, you know, Spotify, not bad. Some of those tracks are on there. They got a record deal after only three live performances as a band. Major record deal. Gene and Paul turned around and tried to fire the other two guys. [00:37:54] Speaker B: That's bad. [00:37:55] Speaker C: And so that album never came out because those dudes were like, we don't work for you, dude. Like, what do you mean? What do you mean, we're fired? And so they had to put out ads and try to get members together. And they kind of formed Kiss quickly, much like this comic was put together. They were like, oh, we need a drummer and we need a lead guitarist because we ain't got nothing right now. And so they scrapped that album. They saved, like, one song from that Wicked Lester album and made that a Kiss song and brought these guys together as quickly as they could. [00:38:27] Speaker B: Okay, so sort of like Pearl Jam. Yeah, except. Except they didn't. Somebody didn't have to die to do that. But, yeah, certainly under. Under the same circumstances. It's a firing as opposed to an overdose. But they were getting record contracts. Had to pull people together really quickly, make stuff happen. [00:38:48] Speaker C: But it's interesting that they were the Gene and Paul we know them to be now. Back in the 70s, like, immediately, it was just like, well, we're a brand. Like, let's just go with it. And it's really just the two of us and the dudes we hire. [00:39:03] Speaker B: That explains a lot. That's. Well, go ahead, Greg. [00:39:10] Speaker A: I was gonna say I. I like the COVID I feel like it's. It's got that, like, that feel of, like, a Mad magazine. [00:39:18] Speaker B: I don't think that's the. [00:39:20] Speaker C: I. I know we needed a. We needed a Genie Newman. [00:39:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:39:24] Speaker C: On the back. [00:39:24] Speaker A: Well, that's what the. That's what. That's what. That's what Doom is. You can't see it under his mask. [00:39:31] Speaker C: Oh, man, it's Alfred. [00:39:32] Speaker A: Alfred E. Dooman. That's. [00:39:38] Speaker B: The cost of comics are going up. You've basically, like, quadrupled the cost of comics in the last, like, three years here. And now we're taking a tabloid, which would have been $0.50, $0.45, putting it alongside Life magazine and putting a $50 cent sale price on it. You better be on point. Right, You've got. Contrasting again, right? You've got the DC offering of Neil Adams putting Muhammad Ali on the COVID with Superman and drawing every person from the 19 from 1977 or 76 on the COVID Right. In the audience. And you have this. [00:40:23] Speaker A: But this is in their blood, Dan. [00:40:26] Speaker B: They printed it in their blood. [00:40:30] Speaker C: Which, you know, if we had a tangible copy here in front of us. I'm wondering if a lot of that red has turned brown. Does this, does this entire book smell like pennies? [00:40:39] Speaker A: Tastes like. [00:40:40] Speaker C: Will I get. Will I get hepatitis from this book? [00:40:42] Speaker B: Could you clone it? Well, whose blood did you get? Did you get Peter's blood? [00:40:48] Speaker C: Oh, man, that's like. It's like the mystery toy in a Happy Meal. You're like, whose blood did I get in this issue? [00:40:54] Speaker B: Aces. Blood. Blood. [00:40:59] Speaker C: My copy at Ace is blood. Before you send. Finish saying blood. [00:41:01] Speaker B: You've already passed out. Well, we turn the page and we get an advertisement. [00:41:10] Speaker A: I love it. [00:41:12] Speaker C: Yes. Because this is really more of a. A Kiss magazine that advertises Marvel than it is Marvel advertising Kiss and Fair. [00:41:20] Speaker B: Marvel is trying to convince you to buy comics over and over in this book. [00:41:24] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:41:25] Speaker B: Which is fascinating. [00:41:26] Speaker C: Please. Well, I mean, 70s Marvel, that's why they grabbed all these different IPs, you know, that's why we're putting out Star wars comics and Godzilla comics and all that. Because Marvel itself, you know, this. Is this in the 90s where the two times Marvel was, like, really hurting. [00:41:40] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, we're, we're, we're. We're only a year away from the implosion, though, so they were doing okay. Right. Now the implosion happens in 78, mostly for DC. Right. But the Marvel contracts as well. So we're doing okay. We're in the giant size era. Right. And so we're not. We're not totally crashed out yet. It was mentioned that they spent more on this comic than any comic they'd ever produced. [00:42:08] Speaker A: The blood. [00:42:09] Speaker B: So getting the IP was a big deal. That was in the, in the text of this book. I don't know how much they spent. Maybe if I look at my. Look at my notes here that I haven't seen yet from the American Comic Book Chronicles from tomorrow's publishing by Jason Sachs. This one, it probably tells me. It does note that it was priced at 150 when nearly every other Marvel publication was selling for 30 cents. So I'll grab that. Fun fact, I don't know if I see if it has numbers on here, and I know it's not going to be on Comic Con because getting the numbers on books that weren't subscription books is really hard in the 70s. No, it just follows this book up by telling us on the next page about the Spider man movie, which was really great. But noting. Yeah, they did. They noted that, uh, maybe Don McGregor was the original person that was going to write this instead of Gerber, which would have been a really interesting difference if you think about it. And they did note here that According to a 1977 Gallup poll, Kiss was America's most popular music act in 19. [00:43:30] Speaker C: Absolutely. They were the quote, hottest band in [00:43:32] Speaker B: the world at that point. So good timing. [00:43:34] Speaker C: This is long before they turned into a terrible hair metal band in the 80s. [00:43:38] Speaker B: 80s for sure. And yeah, and Gerber had. Apparently Greg would know this. Kiss appear briefly in Howard the duck number 12. [00:43:51] Speaker A: There's a lot of guest appearances. [00:43:52] Speaker C: That was technically their Marvel debut, brief moment. [00:43:59] Speaker B: So. And it was printed in real blood. I mean, that's the other thing here. [00:44:02] Speaker A: I mean, here's the question. What was the cost? Was it the cost of, of the printing? Was it the cost? Because it's. It's Bl blood. Was it. Was it Kiss or was it all that Coca Cola that those crazy kids were drinking? [00:44:17] Speaker B: I Kissed. This is notoriously famous for Coca Cola holding up people for once they sign a contract if they don't like the way something's going, they then hold people up for more money. [00:44:30] Speaker A: They're the ultimate warrior of band, but they still made. [00:44:33] Speaker B: Well, they were the ultimate warrior of. They were the ultimate warrior of wrestling too when they had the Kiss Demon because they created that contract was insane. Well, WCW was stupid, but they paid them all this money to have this character. And then Kiss pulls out and. But they can still use the character, but they can just call him the Demon because he was called Kiss Demon. And then he had to be called the Demon, but he was still looked like Gene Simmons, so it didn't make any sense. [00:45:06] Speaker C: And part of the contract was that he only performed in main event matches. Purgin Simmons. And so even though they put him as a mid carder, they had to have people announce that this is a special main event every time. The Kiss Demon came out and fought, you know, Vampiro in the middle of the show. [00:45:26] Speaker B: And he fought Vampiro, which was a. [00:45:30] Speaker C: In a cemetery. [00:45:31] Speaker B: And Dale Torberg, nice guy, eventually became the strength coach for the Florida Marlins under his dad, who was the manager, [00:45:39] Speaker C: Jeff, big baseball guy, Dale, he was really into that. His. In fact, they chose him to portray the demon because he was doing dark matches in a baseball Furies from the warriors gimmick. So he was already a tall dude painting his face. And they were like, well, you're used to putting on face paint, man. Let's just Switch it up. [00:45:56] Speaker B: Similar. Similar to the Renegade, rest his soul. They pushed this guy into a main event, quote unquote situation when he wasn't ready and then had him wrestle people that were not. Not very good wrestlers like Vampiro. Vampiro, great entertainer, but not a great like in ring. [00:46:21] Speaker C: Not known for being a worker. [00:46:23] Speaker B: And so in this here, I think that the first comment I had was we get Alan Weiss who. And then we get John Ansell and Rick Buckler. [00:46:43] Speaker C: Murderers Road. [00:46:44] Speaker B: Yeah, like what is going on here? Like, why didn't John Basima just not draw the whole thing? [00:46:51] Speaker C: Yeah, like it had to be because it would take too long. We had to get this shit done in a nightmare. [00:46:56] Speaker B: But it did note that they gave it to Al. They gave the product a whole project to Alan Weiss first. I mean had they just lost too many people to D.C. at this point that were their top artists. [00:47:07] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:47:09] Speaker B: And you think it's too. [00:47:10] Speaker C: Is. [00:47:10] Speaker B: It's before the mass exodus happens. Right. But yeah, they just, it. They didn't have a bullpen to go to, I guess. No pun. Pun intended. So while we jump in and. Yeah, so it's a. It's a little bit. So the, the good news here is the story isn't going to be disjointed, but the art is very disjointed across the. The book. [00:47:36] Speaker A: I thought it looked perfect. It all flowed together so nicely. [00:47:41] Speaker B: Greg. There were panels with arrows. [00:47:46] Speaker C: Yeah, that. That page kills me bad like that. It's just this weird. This weird tessellated jumble of panels that they have to go. No, then look at this one. Okay, now come back over here. Here and then here and then back here and then you're over there. [00:48:00] Speaker A: Well, one of the. [00:48:01] Speaker C: I mean it's just like watching. Did it. [00:48:03] Speaker B: Yeah. One of the things they did do well that Bobby already talked about is they do a little intro for Kiss and then they do a little intro for Dr. Doom. They. They don't assume with pros. They. Yeah, in pros. And they don't assume that anybody picking this up for Kiss knows anything about Marvel comic books. [00:48:22] Speaker C: Yeah, that was the. That seemed to be. The tone of this whole thing is just like you probably don't read comics, but you probably do listen to Kiss. So let's. Let's see if we can make you a Marvelite out of this. [00:48:32] Speaker B: And it. [00:48:33] Speaker C: I think it's smart too. [00:48:34] Speaker B: So different than we see in other medium. You shouldn't just assume that people know the entire history of what you're talking about. So we Flipped. So we get a table of contents and we have. The contents are a Kiss and Tell. An editorial. A brief biography of Dr. Doom. Kiss Comics Part 1. A blind barbarian and an ancient curse. A mystic metamorphosis and more. Then we get blood on the plates, A true life heavy metal gothic. Then we get where no band has tread before I Kiss history complete with discography. [00:49:14] Speaker A: Ah. [00:49:15] Speaker C: Now, granted, it's a history only up to, like, the third album because we're dealing with the mid-70s, so it's not a very long history. [00:49:22] Speaker B: We find out they've released Beth, like, three times. And then Kiss Comics Part 2, Bubbling Brimstone, A Deadly Discography, and Doctor Doom. And then backstage. So I'm going to say, when Bobby gave this and I thought I have to read 66 pages, initially I was like, wow, thanks. [00:49:47] Speaker C: Thanks a lot for that. [00:49:49] Speaker B: But it's like [00:49:52] Speaker C: grand opening and grand closing of Bobby on funny book fruits. [00:49:57] Speaker A: But then we'll never be having you back. [00:50:00] Speaker B: Like, you didn't give me anything. With 16 panels to read, so. [00:50:04] Speaker C: No, no, no, no, I wouldn't. Do you like that? [00:50:06] Speaker B: It is the. The episode where we never even talk about the comic, pretty much. Anyway. [00:50:12] Speaker A: We're gonna do it, though. We're gonna go back and do every single panel. [00:50:17] Speaker B: No. [00:50:18] Speaker A: Yes. [00:50:19] Speaker B: No. [00:50:19] Speaker A: Yes. [00:50:21] Speaker C: We're doing this. Like an audio that is. I'll take Paul. Who do you want to be? [00:50:26] Speaker A: Okay. [00:50:27] Speaker B: Oh, we can do. Oh, you meant this. See, Bobby's thinking this. Greg wants to do Dark Knight Returns [00:50:32] Speaker A: panel as an audiobook. [00:50:35] Speaker C: Oh, man. Can I just pop in as the leader of the mutants? [00:50:39] Speaker B: Oh, you want to be the Nazis or you want to be the Brown Shirts? Okay, [00:50:47] Speaker A: Con. [00:50:47] Speaker B: Okay. [00:50:48] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:50:48] Speaker B: So I don't know where this is going. [00:50:52] Speaker A: So Kiss. [00:50:52] Speaker B: We. We get a really cool. Okay, so by the way, the interior panel with the band, it's the first page of the comic book. On page seven of this, by the [00:51:03] Speaker C: way, just sort of the. [00:51:04] Speaker B: The notice about this book. [00:51:06] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:07] Speaker B: It's really easy to find things here because there are page numbers at the bottom. [00:51:11] Speaker A: What are page numbers, Dan? Tell me more. [00:51:14] Speaker B: I can reference things. [00:51:15] Speaker C: It's. [00:51:15] Speaker B: It's amazing when you put page numbers [00:51:17] Speaker A: in the book, you know, I hear. I hear you like those, Bobby. Do you like page numbers in your books or do you, like. See, that's what I thought. [00:51:28] Speaker B: Or people that want to delay their shipping out of the book I paid for on Kickstarter by an extra four months because they can't, you know, find their things. [00:51:36] Speaker A: Find their what? Their pages. [00:51:38] Speaker C: Pshaw People who need page numbers probably can't find their way home when they [00:51:43] Speaker B: go for a walk. [00:51:45] Speaker A: That's. That happens to Dan a lot when he goes out walking his dog. [00:51:49] Speaker B: That's why the dog takes me home. So. Well, anyway, this. This could have been the COVID It's not bad. It's pretty good. [00:51:59] Speaker C: It's a little. There's a couple. There's a couple bizarre things about this, but it's much better. [00:52:03] Speaker B: Why is John Lennon licking Paul's shoulder? [00:52:09] Speaker C: It's either. I thought he was trying to lick his own. [00:52:11] Speaker B: Oh, that's his knee. [00:52:13] Speaker A: Oh, interesting. Oh. [00:52:14] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, that's his. His big. His big go go. [00:52:17] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. [00:52:19] Speaker B: Okay. [00:52:21] Speaker C: Well, in fact, Paul's kind of side eyeing him like, why are you licking [00:52:25] Speaker B: your own knee right now? Ace is just kind of looking off [00:52:27] Speaker C: into space, once again disturbed by something over the reader. There's a lot of. Look out behind you. [00:52:35] Speaker B: I don't know what Peter's doing. [00:52:37] Speaker C: He's a cat. He's doing exactly what you think he's doing. He's squatting down again. God damn it. He's doing it all over. [00:52:45] Speaker A: He's a scat cat. [00:52:50] Speaker B: Yeah. That means. Yeah, they did have the word scat on the first couple of pages here, which was interesting. It, of course, refers to music. So the. Yeah. So we opened the book and Gene and Paul out of costume, which is interesting. It's good that they tell you who they are, because I don't know why you would know. [00:53:15] Speaker C: Who would you know? I. I thought this are human alterations. [00:53:19] Speaker A: I thought this was a welcome back Cotter comic book for a minute. [00:53:22] Speaker C: Yeah. They look like sweat hogs. [00:53:25] Speaker B: Sweat hogs again, that was a D.C. book, Greg. [00:53:29] Speaker A: Oh, I know. [00:53:31] Speaker C: Yeah. They fought Muhammad Ali. [00:53:33] Speaker A: They did take all the sweat hogs. Horse, horse. Ax in the back. [00:53:37] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:53:37] Speaker A: Come on, guys. [00:53:39] Speaker C: Remember when. Remember when Barry Allen raced the sweat hogs and. [00:53:43] Speaker B: Well, no, I just thought that John Travolta used his leverage to fight Muhammad Ali. [00:53:49] Speaker A: His leverage? [00:53:49] Speaker B: You know, like in the greatest movie ever, Battlefield Earth, where he used leverage all the time. [00:53:54] Speaker C: Yes. [00:53:54] Speaker A: Oh, my. [00:53:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Is the greatest movie ever made. [00:53:58] Speaker C: Does grindhouse covered battle and just make this a Scientology. [00:54:02] Speaker B: Has Grindhouse covered Battlefield Earth? [00:54:05] Speaker C: It's a little 98's a little recent for our show. Our parameters tend to stick in the late 60s into the very beginning of the 90s. Like, we'll maybe go into like a 92, but we rarely. [00:54:17] Speaker B: There's really no reason for you to cover it. I was just curious. I mean, it is it is definitely on film. [00:54:23] Speaker A: Oh, I. I'll tell you later, Dan. I'll tell you later. [00:54:26] Speaker B: What about. [00:54:27] Speaker A: No, no, I'll tell you. [00:54:27] Speaker B: Scientology. You want to talk to me about that? [00:54:30] Speaker A: Well, yes, if you're willing to open. [00:54:33] Speaker C: He wanted you to take a stress. [00:54:34] Speaker A: If you're willing to open yourself up and accept what you can at the moment, then we can have that conversation. [00:54:44] Speaker B: Oh, that sounds like yoga. [00:54:46] Speaker A: Well, it is part yoga, because we do offer that, but you first have to come with me and take a couple of tests. There's a stress test, but then there's also a lightning test. [00:54:59] Speaker B: I don't know what you're talking about right now. [00:55:01] Speaker C: So that is like. That is something a suppressive personality would say. [00:55:06] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't think he's ready. [00:55:08] Speaker A: Bobby. [00:55:09] Speaker B: Leah Remini or something. I don't think. [00:55:11] Speaker C: I think you need to do a couple months on the boat. [00:55:13] Speaker A: Couple months? [00:55:14] Speaker B: I don't want to do that. [00:55:15] Speaker C: Do you like. [00:55:16] Speaker A: Do you like green drink or pink drink better? [00:55:22] Speaker C: There you go. He's a pink drinker. [00:55:26] Speaker B: Okay, well, in the comic book, Paul and Gene are walking around, and Gene has a Conan the Barbarian comic, and he is bemoaning his old man for telling him he has to grow up and not read comic books. And it sounds like Gene Simmons grew up to be exactly what his old man is now in the. In the comic. [00:55:52] Speaker C: Yeah, I think so. [00:55:54] Speaker A: Wow. How the Turbos have terribles. [00:55:56] Speaker C: You think? There was a moment where Gene is staring in the mirror backstage and is in his full demon slap, and he's just like, muttering, I've become my father. [00:56:07] Speaker A: Oh, no, as he tries to lick his boot. [00:56:12] Speaker C: Well, but it's an interesting scenario, though, of him just being like, we need to give up all this kitty Paul. And waving around his Conan comic on the streets of New York. [00:56:22] Speaker B: Exactly what he did later. He told everybody that they should. He told all the artists that they shouldn't talk about politics because nobody cares about that. Their opinion. So, I mean, he's kind of. He should have just made the shift. Right. But they run into a guy. I. I don't know his name. I find he's made like, two appearances in Marvel Comics. [00:56:46] Speaker C: Yeah, his. His name is Dizzy. [00:56:48] Speaker B: But we don't know that, do we? [00:56:51] Speaker C: It comes up later. I. I think Dr. Strange calls him by name. [00:56:55] Speaker B: Yeah. So he's wearing a. It's quite the T shirt. He's. He. Okay, so if Gambit was overweight and had a furry brief on. [00:57:10] Speaker A: Okay. [00:57:11] Speaker B: With his T shirt. And then lost a little Bit he's wearing hairy under. Became gray and grew a beard. This is pretty much what you'd have here. [00:57:19] Speaker C: It's like he's balding with a top knot. His midriff shirt says, play hard, play fair. Nobody. [00:57:27] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. Oh, I know what this is. [00:57:30] Speaker A: What? [00:57:30] Speaker B: It's superstar Billy Graham in the 80s, but he still has his hair from the 70s. [00:57:37] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:57:39] Speaker C: Oh, I like Dan. [00:57:40] Speaker A: I think you found your new cosplay. [00:57:41] Speaker C: If this dude was out there flexing for people, being, you know, the reflection of perfection. The number one selection. [00:57:49] Speaker B: Yes. [00:57:49] Speaker C: That the women's pet, the men's regret, or. What you see is what you get and what you don't see is even better. [00:57:54] Speaker B: That's exactly what I think. He. Well, wow. I hardly. I'm. I was having a bad day with Dolly Parton thing, but now look at this. So, yeah, anyway, he. This. He throws a box at Paul. [00:58:15] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:58:15] Speaker C: Like a whole gang of people are dog piling him trying to get this [00:58:18] Speaker B: box and he throws it at Paul and Paul says, oh. And they start running away with the box. Was there any text I should have covered there? Are we good? Just. [00:58:30] Speaker C: That is important. Well, he does. Dizzy recognizes Gene and Paul. They don't know who he is, but he's like, you're finally here. And he says, like, heads up, flaming youths. And he. And when he throws in this magic glowing box, this is just hell. Oh, my God. [00:58:47] Speaker A: Oh, no. [00:58:49] Speaker C: It's the lament configuration or the start [00:58:51] Speaker B: to any lazy DND campaign. [00:58:53] Speaker A: That. Yes. Yeah, that's. That's a. This could be a D campaign. Holy. [00:58:57] Speaker B: It is. Yeah. You were just. They're just walking around and then they're gonna run into some more friends at Tavern here in a second. [00:59:03] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. [00:59:04] Speaker C: Can you imagine though, if you. If you solved the lament configuration and it turned and it reconfigured and like the wall split open and it was just Kiss. [00:59:12] Speaker A: I'll let down. I mean, a Kiss from the seventies Or. Or near like Kiss now. [00:59:19] Speaker C: Oh, God. Current Italian. [00:59:21] Speaker A: It'd be like. It's k. Oh, son of a. [00:59:24] Speaker B: Close. [00:59:27] Speaker C: Oh, man. Ace Freely. No, I'm not Ace. What? That's bullshit. [00:59:32] Speaker A: Oh, this is a destroyer. [00:59:36] Speaker B: Well, we get. We run into Peter and Ace playing pinball [00:59:44] Speaker C: and. [00:59:47] Speaker B: Yeah, Peter's not happy that Ace is playing a lot of pinball for somebody. I keep forgetting who Curley is. By the way, Curly's not a character. [00:59:57] Speaker C: It's. They do this in Kiss Meets the Fan of the Park. Ace likes to call everybody that. That's his sweetheart, you know. It's just. He just calls people Curly. That's bub. [01:00:08] Speaker B: That's interesting. Okay, so that was all created by Steve Gerber as him? [01:00:13] Speaker C: I think so. I mean, this predates that movie, so. [01:00:16] Speaker B: Or it was created by the band with him. He's just like. I just like to call everybody curly. [01:00:23] Speaker C: I will. Another little bit of behind the scenes about the movie. The screenwriters of Kiss, pizza fan of the park, sat down with each member of Kiss, trying to get their characters. Ace decided when they spent the day with him that he was never gonna speak. The entire time they hung out with him, he sat in silence and only responded to things with ack. Like a Mars Attack alien. And so they wrote him that way in the script. And then when he saw the final script, he was livid. It was like, what the fuck? I don't have any dialogue. It was a great production, just all around. [01:00:56] Speaker B: Wow. Yeah. [01:00:59] Speaker C: Nice guys. [01:01:01] Speaker B: It was on np But I don't know if you're. [01:01:03] Speaker C: Let's say you guys are hanging out at the arcade. You're playing some pinball, you know. Dan, you're boxing Greg out. [01:01:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:01:09] Speaker C: And one of your friends runs by and just tosses you this glowing box and was like, we gotta get outta here. Now are. Are you running with them or you're dropping that box? [01:01:19] Speaker B: I would probably look at the box and be very confused. Just like when I was at the mall and tried to look at those pictures with the little symbols on them that were really supposed to be pictures. And I'd probably try to figure out what it was. And Greg would probably actually grab me and tell me that I need to go run somewhere because I'd be oblivious to that. [01:01:37] Speaker A: We gotta go. [01:01:38] Speaker B: In fact, Greg, I believe that's probably accurate to how real life was. It's like you would be like, dan, we need to go get to your car now. [01:01:46] Speaker A: Yes, we need to leave. [01:01:47] Speaker B: Which was a 1978 International Harvester Scout. [01:01:51] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:01:53] Speaker B: So, yes, that's probably what would happen. These guys all end up in a photo booth though, because they're running away from the mob. [01:01:59] Speaker C: Yeah, well, there's a knife wielding gang coming after them. So they all clown car into the. [01:02:05] Speaker B: Yeah, this guy's hair too. What is. With. What is the artist feeling about? First we get the guy with the tuft of hair on top and the beard and balding. And then we get the. This guy. He. We're working out these facial expressions too. Are. Are fantastic. So we get. Flip the page and they're all in a photo booth. The guy's about to get them with his stiletto knife, and then a bunch of other people have knives, and then they open the box and out come things. [01:02:36] Speaker A: Oh, man. [01:02:38] Speaker B: So, yeah, a star [01:02:42] Speaker C: makes sense. [01:02:43] Speaker B: Three voodoo dolls. [01:02:46] Speaker C: Yeah, it's just sort of three Kiss Barbies and a star ninja star. [01:02:52] Speaker B: Were they just too lazy to make one, Paul? Yeah. [01:02:58] Speaker C: Like, what was the decision here? Like, pick one. It should have either been symbols for each person. Like, what would have been the. The what makes up their individual makeups? You know, you could have done like a silver and blue one that Ace has. You know, you do the, I don't know, a widow's peak or whatever for. For Jeeb and a little kitty cat face for Peter. [01:03:17] Speaker B: And that would have made some sense. But instead we get. [01:03:20] Speaker C: Well, they're totems, like wood carved Kiss members. [01:03:25] Speaker A: So they all look kind of deaged too, when they're looking at them like children. [01:03:31] Speaker C: They're little. [01:03:32] Speaker B: Oh, my God, look at this toy. [01:03:35] Speaker C: Oh, they should have Shazam this. Like, have it just like the alter egos for Kiss. [01:03:40] Speaker A: Or like, oh, man, that have been hilarious. I don't want to do it. My dad says I don't want to be a paperboy. [01:03:46] Speaker B: They ditched the scam. The next page turn into with a boom. [01:03:50] Speaker C: It's true. We do kind of do that. [01:03:53] Speaker B: They get the totems and they all transform into Kiss the band, but not really. [01:04:01] Speaker C: And yeah, it's quite the appearance on these guys. Like, I have issues with Paul Stanley's jumpsuit. [01:04:07] Speaker B: Really? [01:04:07] Speaker C: His bodysuit. Hey, man, kids are reading this. [01:04:10] Speaker B: I, I. [01:04:11] Speaker C: Because this dude is. This thing is. I mean, it looks, it looks sexy as hell. The dude's practically showing dick. [01:04:17] Speaker B: Well, he has a codpiece. [01:04:18] Speaker A: It's all the way. [01:04:20] Speaker C: The codpiece is swinging from his crotch. It's not even over it. [01:04:24] Speaker A: It's just attached to it. [01:04:26] Speaker B: I mean, not that I noticed or anything, but I did notice that I believe Ace is the only one that doesn't have a COD piece. [01:04:35] Speaker C: Well, yeah, it gets in the way up in space, you know, he's often in zero gravity, so his stuff's just kind of floating free. He is Ace Freely, after all. Like, you're not gonna, you're not gonna lock that up. [01:04:48] Speaker A: Gosh, that's. That is a. [01:04:50] Speaker C: It's Ace P. Freely. [01:04:54] Speaker A: Astute. [01:04:55] Speaker C: Now, let me ask you this, Danny. [01:04:57] Speaker B: I don't know. Yeah. [01:04:58] Speaker C: Now, I'm a fellow who also fancies the fellows along with the ladies. And you're a fellow who Fancies the fellows. What's your take on Paul Stanley? He's the only member of KISS that's supposed to be sexy. You know, like that, where. That's the. That's the product. [01:05:11] Speaker B: Are we talking Paul Stanley now or Paul Stanley in 19? [01:05:15] Speaker C: No, of course not Paul Stanley now. Jesus. But Paul Stanley in his prime, when he was. When he was fire on all. [01:05:22] Speaker B: Well, I think, like, this version of Paul Stanley without the hair is. Is, you know, very twinkish. So I don't know how I feel about that. But, you know, the real Paul Stanley, you know, it's not so bad, I guess. [01:05:37] Speaker C: Moments, right? [01:05:38] Speaker B: Yeah, his moments. [01:05:39] Speaker C: I mean, like, I showed. I showed the Paul Lynde Halloween special to my wife, and she had never seen Kiss young. She had only ever. She knew KISS to be old men in makeup. You know, he's like old men in clown makeup and body armor. And. And so seeing that, you know, seeing them in, like, 76, she was like, I think I want to Paul Stanley. And I said to her, we all want to Paul Stanley. [01:06:03] Speaker B: I mean, just looking back, Peter looks very drugged out, always. [01:06:08] Speaker C: That's. That's accurate. [01:06:09] Speaker B: I. I found a. I found some. I found an artifact here. We can. We can show the audience probably the love gun. Well, Peter was much hairier. That's what I was trying to say. Than. Oh, in the. [01:06:25] Speaker A: Than in this image of him. Yeah. [01:06:28] Speaker C: You mean. You're talking about Paul, So Paul. [01:06:31] Speaker B: I mean. Sorry, not Peter. [01:06:34] Speaker C: Yeah, well, Peter's hairy, too. He is a cat. [01:06:36] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:06:37] Speaker B: So. [01:06:37] Speaker A: So he's coming up. [01:06:38] Speaker B: I can. Yeah. So I don't know if this will make it. I'll try to cut it back in, but. Oh, yeah. So as you can see. [01:06:46] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. [01:06:46] Speaker B: Paul had much hairier furry man. And Ace, again, Just HP Freely. [01:06:57] Speaker C: Once again. [01:06:58] Speaker B: Yeah. And so. And Peter very drugged out, and Jean is. I. I mean, I don't know. It's probably wrong to say Jean's not an attractive human, but, you know, [01:07:15] Speaker C: like, you know, I was watching a live performance where they were out of the makeup, and he had, like. He grew some facial hair. He didn't have the top knot, like a. Like Sergeant Kabuki man, you know? You know, And I guess I gotta say a youngish Gene Simmons just looking like a rock star. Not bad. Not bad. I'll give him that. But, you know, that went right off a cliff. [01:07:39] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I mean, so, you know, in. In real life, we have Otter Paul Stanley, but in the comic we have Twink Paul Stanley. So you have to kind of just [01:07:49] Speaker C: would have taken too much time to. To draw those chest hairs. [01:07:52] Speaker B: That's probably. That could be true. Maybe he gets chest hair later. Maybe as the comic evolves, he gains chest hair because he grows into his Persona. [01:08:01] Speaker A: It's his power. [01:08:04] Speaker C: Just that, that rugged manliness just coming through. [01:08:08] Speaker B: Well, we, we flip the page and Gene takes out everyone except for some guys that were going to attack him from behind. And Peter jumps in and gets him [01:08:21] Speaker C: and he pounces like, like a jungle cat. [01:08:25] Speaker B: So I'm learning more about the band here and what you've been teaching me. And now some of the dialogue makes more sense because Peter says, far thinks far out. Gene sounds like a cross between a bulldozer and a dinosaur, which definitely later in life, you know, that would be the equivalent of his singing voice. And then he says, but as usual, somebody's got to guard his rear flank. And it looks like I'm elected. So it does seem like there's already some dissension here in the comic in the band between Gene Paul on one side and Ace and Peter on the other side. [01:09:02] Speaker C: I mean, that is kind of how it went down historically too. Eventually Ace and Peter quit the band, you know, and, and they only come back when you have a big enough truck full of money. [01:09:12] Speaker B: What did they go on to do when they left the band? [01:09:15] Speaker C: Yeah, solo projects just did their own things individually, you know. Ace Freely had a long career up until his death just performing as a solo guy. You just went and saw he knew that. [01:09:25] Speaker B: So what happened, Peter? [01:09:26] Speaker C: Yeah, I, I think he put out some stuff too. But like, nobody, nobody wants that. Like, that's okay. Like, how many songs, how many songs does Beth need, man? Knock it off. [01:09:37] Speaker B: At least five. Peter had the, at one point had the best selling song for the band. Is that not accurate? [01:09:46] Speaker C: Like, absolutely. No, it is accurate. Beth was probably their biggest hit, which baffles my mind because that was like a makeout song. I get it. You know, you like, you put on, you know, you put on Detroit Rock City to rock out and then you'd switch it over. You switched the tape over to Beth when you want to go park somewhere with your gal and. But I don't know. I don't understand. [01:10:09] Speaker B: Well, Peter jumps on this man and says, naughty little rats. Putty tats got you. But I don't eat rats, so I'll let you go if you promise to scat. [01:10:25] Speaker C: Now we're getting a little deeper into, into. We're getting into fetishes now. Like we're getting into Peter Pizza's kick. You promised to scat and I won't eat you. [01:10:33] Speaker A: I. Yeah. [01:10:37] Speaker B: I feel like sometimes. I feel like in this dialogue that Gerber was just entertaining himself. [01:10:45] Speaker C: Oh, absolutely. [01:10:47] Speaker B: And very much like Steve Gerber to do, too. Like, that is not against what he do. Do you see, like, down here on page 15 now in the background, all of a sudden? Well, no. He does acquire more hair. [01:11:01] Speaker C: Yeah, it's growing. [01:11:03] Speaker B: As it's growing as the comic is happening. [01:11:06] Speaker C: It's like how the angrier Hulk gets. He gets a little bigger. Like, the torso hair just starts coming in. The more. The more shit's going down. It's as he's absorbing kinetic energy. He's, like, stronger. The more you hit him, the hairier he gets. [01:11:20] Speaker B: In fact, you could probably just call him Guido. [01:11:24] Speaker C: Absolutely. But this is maybe one of my favorite parts in this comic, though, this scene with Paul, because Paul gets to utilize his superpower. He blasts one of his assailants with an optic blast from his star eye. He stargazes him, and it's like the penance stare from Ghost Rider. And it reduces this man to a sobbing mess over the fact that Bruce Lee is no longer with us. What? This is an incredible superpower. Imagine Paul Stanley just turns and looks like at you and goes, I know you're sad about Bruce Lee. And you're like, I am. And then. And now you're just. You're a bubbling mess. Just. I can't believe he's gone. [01:12:08] Speaker B: And that's what the Star Power does. [01:12:11] Speaker C: It's emotion. You know, he can amplify your emotions about things. He can see into your very soul. [01:12:17] Speaker B: I sort of feel like the Star Power does whatever the writer wants it to do. And in this case, we have one writer until we get the movie. [01:12:24] Speaker C: I mean, in Kiss meets the Phantom of the park, he shoots a beam and then dances down the beam like a. Like a hard light manifestation from a Green Lantern. [01:12:34] Speaker B: Why have I never seen this? I know why I've never seen this movie, because I wouldn't have been allowed to see many reasons, but. [01:12:41] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:12:41] Speaker B: Well, the. The bad guy with no hair, with the. Wait, that has hair on the sides and hair in the middle. [01:12:51] Speaker A: Spot of hair right on his. Like, right in the middle of his forehead. [01:12:54] Speaker C: He's Charlie Brown is what he is. He just has. [01:12:56] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Darkseid turns him. I mean, somebody turns him into a pile of ash when he doesn't accomplish his goals, so. Oh, my gosh. [01:13:07] Speaker C: Yep. And that's after the members of Kiss get away via Teleportation. Because one of Ace Freely's powers is he does the little hitchhiker thumb. And when he does the hitchhiker thumb, he can teleport anywhere. [01:13:19] Speaker B: Yeah, Ace's powers aren't really defined. He, like, makes force fields and he teleports. And I'm not really. But they're all. [01:13:30] Speaker C: And in Kiss meets the Phantom of the park, he also has Palpatine force. [01:13:33] Speaker A: Oh, wow. [01:13:35] Speaker C: Like, they do the rotoscope, you know, coming out of his fingertips. [01:13:38] Speaker B: They're apparently all defensive powers, though. He says that later. [01:13:44] Speaker C: Yeah, he doesn't really go on the offense so much. [01:13:47] Speaker B: He just hangs out in the back and bees Ace and then goes on to a solo career. [01:13:53] Speaker C: Pretty much makes sense. He just keeps his head down. Except for that one time he electrocuted himself on stage. But, you know, bound to happen. [01:14:00] Speaker B: Well, Paul continues to get more hair and they end up on a boat, and they see the Statue of Liberty and they're super happy. [01:14:08] Speaker C: Damn it. [01:14:09] Speaker A: Hold on a second, Dan. There's a boat. Bobby, you picked a book with a freaking. A boat. [01:14:16] Speaker B: This is not bad. [01:14:18] Speaker A: Every time, Bobby. Every time. Okay, continue. [01:14:22] Speaker B: Well, they all have this conversation, and they mention. Ace mentions a matter on the moon. [01:14:36] Speaker C: The matter of. [01:14:36] Speaker B: Matter of the moon. Oh, yeah, we're getting. [01:14:39] Speaker C: We're getting a Star wars. That's no more. [01:14:40] Speaker A: I thought they were gonna get cheese. [01:14:43] Speaker B: The moon's falling down, and as the moon falls down, it's really a spaceship or something. [01:14:50] Speaker C: This moon splashes into the ocean like [01:14:53] Speaker B: a hatch open, and then. And then out come the fembots. But, like, Latvarian fembot. [01:15:02] Speaker C: A bunch of Latvarian baddies, man. [01:15:05] Speaker B: Great, great. [01:15:05] Speaker C: You'll notice hot Latvarian babes in your area. [01:15:08] Speaker B: Notice how I didn't use the word I'm not supposed to use anymore. [01:15:11] Speaker A: Good. Good on you. [01:15:12] Speaker C: That's good. They, like. They're not even technically Romani. Like, they are Latterian. [01:15:18] Speaker A: I love their. Yeah, yeah, they got a good look like that. [01:15:24] Speaker C: Like that giant Monster fighting robot. Lat Varian danger from Pacific Rip danger. [01:15:29] Speaker A: Yes, exactly. [01:15:32] Speaker B: Well, Dr. Doom appears with his fembots, and they're throwing rose petals everywhere. [01:15:40] Speaker C: This is awesome. He's entering like a cartoon pimp. [01:15:46] Speaker B: Well, he comes in and he gets to tell us the whole box of KISS story, but spelled A, H, Y, S, C, Z. [01:15:57] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. This is basically kid, you know, kiss's origin story pretty much every. [01:16:02] Speaker B: Yeah, and it's like a spelling for every baseball player for the brewers in the 80s. [01:16:06] Speaker A: So. [01:16:07] Speaker C: Yeah, there's there's always a guy named Kids. [01:16:10] Speaker B: It's always like a left handed reliever. So we got. He says the box of Kiss was among the implements of it. Says it. So I'm going to read it. Greg. Gypsy sorcery, which I was to have inherited upon my mother's death. Now, does this box show up anywhere else in comics? Is this new? [01:16:36] Speaker C: Not in the comics. This should have been one of those artifacts. This should have been. You know, Odin should have had this in his, in his room with all the, with the Infinity Gauntlet and the Tesseract. But he has a concert. [01:16:49] Speaker A: Whenever he opens it up, it's like, I'm sorry, boys. They. [01:16:53] Speaker C: They do tonight, they do have the box in Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park. The Box of Kish exists. We don't talk about its background at all. And, and they just have four. Four. What's the word I'm looking for? They're not totems and they're not symbols. They're. They have. Basically they have like four little discs sort of. They each, they each have a little talisman. That's the word I was looking for. They refer to it as talismans that contain their powers. But they don't. They don't bring up the fact that these powers and everything that makes them the band Kiss is canonically due to Dr. Doom's mom. [01:17:37] Speaker B: I mean, that's fantastic. I mean, you think about. And, and also Gene is infatuated with Dr. Doom. He is down at the bottom of the page. [01:17:48] Speaker C: He likes a powerful man. [01:17:49] Speaker B: He's like, I can anticipate where this is leading directly to Latveria and our eternal subjugation by Dr. Doom. No human being since Hitler has understood the psychology of power as Doom does. But much as I'd like to study at his feet, I don't think I'd get off on licking his. Like Hitler, but he likes to lick boots. Boys gotta fight on her. [01:18:12] Speaker C: Only his own. [01:18:13] Speaker B: He's thinking. So Gene, true to real life, wants to study a master manipulator of media and people. [01:18:25] Speaker C: Yeah, he likes the cut of this Jib dude. He was just like, no, this guy gets it. He took one look at Dr. Doom like, this guy. [01:18:31] Speaker B: So why did Gene and the 2000s think his reinvention as a standard singer was going to work? [01:18:42] Speaker C: I mean, it worked so well for, you know, David Lee Roth. You know, Dan Zig was able to bust out some old stuff. He's like, I got to do with that. That seems to be working. Those albums are selling Real well. Right, guys? [01:18:53] Speaker B: Yeah, guys. Everybody wanted to see Gene Simmons do the standards. [01:19:02] Speaker C: What I'm wondering is. All right, so Dr. Doom's mom created the. The. The box of kids that turns you into the hottest band in the world. It was meant for Victor. So had Victor not gone through the accident, which member of KISS was he supposed to be? Is Victor supposed to be the Star Child? [01:19:24] Speaker A: What if there was a fifth member and we just didn't know? What if he what? [01:19:27] Speaker C: Well, there was. I mean, there are six KISS Personas. People don't realize that. Not a lot of people know that there's more than four. Yeah. In the 80s, there was a. There's a fox. [01:19:38] Speaker A: A fox? [01:19:40] Speaker C: Yeah. Drummer Eric Carr became a fox. And then guitarist Vinnie Vincent created a character called the Ankh Warrior. [01:19:47] Speaker B: The Ankh Warrior. [01:19:49] Speaker C: It just has a big gold ankh on his forehead. That was when, you know, they went unmasked. They took off the makeup. Everyone hated that. They put the makeup back on. And the guitarist and drummer they had at the time were like, well, we are not going to just dress up as Ace and Peter. So we need to create our own Persona. So I'm not a kitty cat, I'm a fox. [01:20:08] Speaker B: Oh. [01:20:09] Speaker C: And then. And then Vinnie Vincent's like, and I'm an encore. They're like, what's an encore? He said, don't worry about. It's going to be. [01:20:16] Speaker B: It makes sense. I mean, ancient Egypt with demons and star children. Makes total sense. [01:20:22] Speaker C: Oh, there's our boy. The encore. [01:20:26] Speaker B: Ah, that's. That's a. That's a choice. [01:20:30] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:20:31] Speaker C: Certainly a choice. [01:20:35] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, you know, it fits. Yeah. Well, they take out the fembots here and melt them and stuff. [01:20:48] Speaker C: Yeah. The second we even imply that these might not. These might be killer robots. Jean's like, good enough for me and starts breathing fire all over. [01:20:57] Speaker B: And then Dr. Doom, like, takes them out kind of by flying away, [01:21:06] Speaker A: like a. [01:21:07] Speaker B: Right. He takes him out by being defeated because. [01:21:12] Speaker C: But that's when we discover that Gene can also fly. [01:21:15] Speaker B: Yeah. And Ace then, like teleports them again, but into, like the negative zone. [01:21:24] Speaker C: Yeah. We get this big two page splash of them just sort of, you know, freely floating through space. [01:21:30] Speaker B: I see what you did there. [01:21:32] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:21:34] Speaker B: And then what. [01:21:36] Speaker C: And this angle on Paul, though, like, what were we going for there? We got a nipple looking like a pepperoni on his chest. He is spread eagle, just taint forward. [01:21:50] Speaker B: I don't know who was. Was it still Alan drawing at this point? [01:21:55] Speaker C: I don't know. The art looks different in this splash. I feel like this was one of the other artists. [01:21:59] Speaker B: Not after this, but. Well, we flipped the page and we find out that J. Jonah Jameson is really upset. He did that he doesn't have pictures of Dr. Doom and that the other newspaper does. And then. So we get a Spider man cameo, and then we get a Fantastic Four cameo. And this is sort of our trip [01:22:24] Speaker C: around the Marvel universe. [01:22:26] Speaker B: For people who aren't familiar, who are these guys? [01:22:30] Speaker C: It's just the whole Marvel universe going like, what the fuck's Kiss? [01:22:33] Speaker B: We get an Avengers cameo where they feature Steve Gerber's favorite avenger, the Beast. Yeah. And the. And the person that hits women as the two Avengers. They feature here. [01:22:48] Speaker A: Yes. [01:22:49] Speaker C: You got to think like, yeah, Hank Pim's got to be like, I love this guy. Like, Kiss is awesome. [01:22:56] Speaker B: And then we get the Defenders, because that's Steve Gerber's book. And this is where we meet Dizzy the Viking. [01:23:06] Speaker C: Yeah. That's where we finally get to figure out who this guy is. The weird street man in the. With the socks pulled up to his knees and his bare midriff and his hairy underpants is a. An associate of Dr. [01:23:18] Speaker B: Strange. [01:23:19] Speaker A: I'm telling you, Dan, this is your next cosplay. [01:23:22] Speaker B: And in a line that doesn't. [01:23:24] Speaker C: Where was this guy in Multiverse of Madness? [01:23:26] Speaker A: Yeah, he would. He. He should be there. [01:23:29] Speaker B: In a line that doesn't hold up well. Hulk says no. He doesn't want to support them. Let the white faces fight their own fight. [01:23:37] Speaker C: You know what crop that. We're using that all over the place. [01:23:40] Speaker B: I'll see if I can get that onto the. I probably should put Kiss in the graphic, but that would be interesting. [01:23:49] Speaker C: You gotta imagine. And Daredevil's there with the Defenders. You gotta imagine. He's like, they look like what? Someone described this to me real quick. [01:23:57] Speaker A: A what? A what? A what? A what? [01:24:02] Speaker C: Imagine. That's a good point. Imagine seeing Kiss for the very first time. Like, if you. If you teleported. You hitchhiker. Thumbed yourself into a Kiss show. You've never seen these guys before. You're looking at Paul Stanley. You're trying to make sense of this. The star over the eye. He's this sort of kabuki drag. [01:24:20] Speaker B: Why Son of Satan might be taking notes now. [01:24:24] Speaker C: He's. He's probably feeling it. But then, you know, you see Paul. And then you look, you know, and to his right is a demon. To his left is a space man. Behind him is a cat playing the drums. [01:24:40] Speaker A: It's A lot. [01:24:41] Speaker C: I'd feel like Daredevil. [01:24:42] Speaker A: Yeah. You know what? [01:24:44] Speaker C: Someone explained this to me. What the hell? [01:24:47] Speaker B: I mean, it's. [01:24:48] Speaker A: What did you put him in? [01:24:49] Speaker B: Drugs? [01:24:52] Speaker C: You spiked my drugs? [01:24:54] Speaker B: Well, we find out that doctor Strange is very happy that nobody else is interfering and just says they all have to survive on their own to screw them. And we'll hang out here. Hulk is right. [01:25:06] Speaker C: Incredible. The Marvel Universe all got together and went, man, these guys die. They die. [01:25:11] Speaker B: Well. And the reason they said these guys, they die is for the next three pages, I have to see blood being drawn. And I take it. [01:25:21] Speaker C: Are you a bit of a hemophil? [01:25:23] Speaker B: I am not a big fan. I am told by the people that draw my blood every quarter that I am their best patient because I go in and I look the other way, and I just let them do their thing, and we chat for a minute, and then I leave. [01:25:36] Speaker C: That makes sense. [01:25:37] Speaker B: So they say I'm a great patient, but yes, I. I mean, that's really what they want. I once had a situation where I was working and Greg was not there, but he remembers this situation. I was working in the student activities office at my college, and I was working there in the summer. And the geniuses in the parking lot built a T right for a handicap parking spot and put the sign on one part of the T and put the other part of the T into an island with plants. And so it was white and the sun was shining on it, and they painted it white. They didn't plant it yellow or anything. And this woman walks square into it and breaks her nose. So she comes into the. Nobody's there because it's summertime. So she, like, bleeds all the way through the student center, walking through, and then comes into our office, and she's covered in blood. Our athletic assist, our assistant athletic director, slash the secretary for athletics, is the toughest. One of the toughest people I've ever met. Basically almost passes out seeing all this. I'm the only other one there. I take care of the person, get everything situated and fine up to that point. We get her sent off to the hospital. Somebody else took her. I then see the blood on the ground and go throw up. [01:27:02] Speaker C: Oh, no. [01:27:03] Speaker B: So it wasn't until I saw the blood all over the ground and realized what was happening, but my whole body, like, went into fix it mode, and then I saw the blood on the ground, and I went and threw up. So, yeah, damn, I would say. But blood and wrestling never really bugged me that much unless I'm there. [01:27:22] Speaker C: Okay, yeah, that's a little different. I went to a death match and I was like, yeah, this feels different. [01:27:28] Speaker A: Yeah, that TV's one thing. [01:27:29] Speaker C: Like, see it again. They had to. They had to stop that show because of an amendment. [01:27:33] Speaker B: I do not like the main event. It was like, I do not like watching the death matches on. Even on tv. I will say that. Like, that's, that's. [01:27:40] Speaker C: I'm not a death match. For me, it doesn't. Like, I don't mind a hard way in an old wrestling match. Like, that's kind of cool when, like, you know, your forehead got busted open or whatever. But like when a dude's getting caught up with like a broken fluorescent light [01:27:53] Speaker B: tube or something, like the classic mask and you know all that. [01:27:58] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, the I equipment, fine. [01:28:00] Speaker B: But it's also leading to something and they're telling a story. So you're thinking about it here. At least Kiss was telling a story, so I was thinking about the story and reading the text. So nice little interlude. [01:28:12] Speaker C: So that wasn't too bad. [01:28:13] Speaker B: The best thing in this entire comic is the page like his story. And I don't know how Gerber got permission to do this. And it doesn't really fit anywhere and it doesn't really help advertise Marvel Comics or anything, but we get an advertisement for Air Latveria. [01:28:34] Speaker A: It's pretty great. [01:28:35] Speaker C: This is what to your point, Greg? This feels like MAD magazine little one pager just with a gag. [01:28:42] Speaker B: And it refuses real life events too, because it says. At last, the Carter administration has lifted all restrictions on foreign travel, and Americans can once again visit the tiny kingdom known for centuries as the jewel of the Balkans. Latveria, land of enchantment. Latveria, where the smell of incense and this spell of gypsy magic is so pervade the atmosphere you can almost feel your skin crawl. Latveria, by day, stole her quaint cobblestone streets. Visit the shops where skilled craftsmen still manufacture watches, cabinetry, and sub miniature ruby lasers by hand. By night, prowl her back alleys. You really haven't lived until you spent an evening for two in a Latveria bistro, sipping aphrodisiac potions and tapping your toe to the blues improvisation of the Black Forest five, in which your sports enthusiasts will find Latveria a wonderland. Skiing, skating, tobogganing, and of course, the famous outdoor robot gladiator matches Latveria, where there's no solution, no crime, and no politics by decree of the government. Latveria Air Latveria has more flights to this Magic Kingdom than any other airline. In fact, we're specialists. We only fly to Laveria. Let us spirit you away. Midnight flights from JFK, LaGuardia and Newark nightly. Liberal discounts on advanced bookings, charter flights and excursions. And don't forget to ask about our special plan for defectors. [01:30:12] Speaker C: I got me honest with you, Dan. I'm going to ask about the special plan. [01:30:16] Speaker B: I'm ready. I mean, I think going to a place with no politics right now would be. [01:30:20] Speaker A: It seems like a dream. [01:30:23] Speaker C: I'll take. Do you know what he, he, he seems to have, you know, he keeps his shit together because he needs to prove to the rest of the world that like, well, look how well I handle that area. I should rule the world. [01:30:33] Speaker B: Fair. [01:30:33] Speaker A: Doom. [01:30:34] Speaker C: You know, I feel that way about, you know, him and Black Adam, like both of those guys, like, you know what, they run a tight ship and, you know, it pays off. [01:30:40] Speaker B: Yeah. Doom. As consistent as Barry Sanders. As Bernie Sanders, not Barry. [01:30:46] Speaker C: As consistent as Barry Sanders. Let's talk about that. Is that, let's talk about career stats. [01:30:53] Speaker A: I would say they're evenly matched, guys. Evenly matched. I mean, no, Dan. [01:31:01] Speaker B: Barry Sanders. Yeah. We get a Kiss concert picture. It's not a good one. [01:31:10] Speaker C: Yeah, well, that's an odd choice. Right? We get a big two pager of a blurry picture of Kiss on stage. Really, really focusing on the, the SS stylization in the Kiss logo. Once again, talking about Gene's admiration for powerful dictators. [01:31:30] Speaker B: Yeah, he, he seems to like them. And then says they're bad and then says they're great again. Yeah, he likes to know that. Then, then we can't talk about it. Well, we get more stories about Kiss here and then we get back. [01:31:44] Speaker C: In case you're a Marvel fan who's coming here not knowing what Kiss is. [01:31:47] Speaker B: Kiss discography fair. [01:31:49] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:31:50] Speaker B: Casablanca, Hotter Than Hell, Dressed to Kill, Alive. Destroyer, the one everybody should know, the originals, Rock and Roll Over. Casablanca, Rock and Roll over is the album. [01:32:07] Speaker C: Casablanca is the record label. I will say as a still ironic asterisk, KISS fan. There's really only four albums you need like the, the original self titled album, Love Gun, Destroyer and Alive. Like do not venture past that quick. There's a couple singles you like. You'll get. I Was Made for Loving you. You'll get, you know, War Machine, things like that. Don't listen to the rest of those albums, like listen to those singles. But really as far as albums you need to have, like, that's the Bakes. [01:32:40] Speaker A: Everything else is. [01:32:42] Speaker B: Yeah, well, we get the Kiss Backstage scrapbook order. You can order that for $1. You get 130 photos for your favorite rock stars. [01:32:55] Speaker C: Like, you can put a picture of Patti Smith on your bedroom wall. [01:32:58] Speaker B: Wow, that would be great. And you can do this if you just send it to Rock Scene Department, M Four Seasons Publications, Farwood Road, Battery C, Battery C06. [01:33:19] Speaker C: I think we gotta try this out. [01:33:20] Speaker B: There's no state here and I'm suspect. [01:33:23] Speaker A: Oh, man, I'm not getting anything. Every time I send this off, I just get nothing. [01:33:29] Speaker C: You know, I think it's Connecticut. I think it's ct. Yeah, I'm a mailman, so I. I know how dresses, guys. Right there. That's got to be the. The code for Connecticut. [01:33:39] Speaker A: Bethany. [01:33:40] Speaker B: Bethany, Connecticut. [01:33:42] Speaker A: That makes sense. Scared. [01:33:45] Speaker B: That seems like a high. Oh, no, That's a low zip code. 06525. Yeah. [01:33:52] Speaker C: Over here on the west coast, we're all great. [01:33:54] Speaker B: Fly, fly, fly back and take care of this for us. [01:33:56] Speaker A: Okay, well, when I. When I don't go to your birthday in Las Vegas and I go to the wedding for one of my cousins, I got to pick because now they're both getting married at some point next year, I got to pick which one I will. And that's a terrible thing. Do I get. Do I go to the older one or the younger one? [01:34:14] Speaker B: Or do you go to my birthday in Las Vegas, which seems like the obvious choice. What will be more fun? [01:34:26] Speaker A: Picking up backstage scrapbook pictures from. [01:34:31] Speaker C: No, you keep getting. Getting hot kiss picks. [01:34:34] Speaker B: Well, we get chapter two, and we get Kiss in heaven. [01:34:41] Speaker C: And I gotta tell you, this is. This is troubling because Paul Stanley is ready to besmirch heaven with his food. He is. He is raring to go. He has arrived in the Lord's paradise with a turgent fellas. [01:34:54] Speaker B: And. And we get John Busima art, which means that the art suddenly takes a incredible upturn. [01:35:02] Speaker C: It looks so good, honestly. [01:35:04] Speaker B: We have the same inker. Al Milgram inks all of it, but, [01:35:08] Speaker C: like, now we're in some proper Bronze Age Marvel, man. [01:35:10] Speaker B: Well, it's interesting. They get Al Ingram to. Or Al Mogram to ink the whole thing too, because they get one of the best inkers in the business inking the entire book. Yeah. So there are cherubs, there's an angel, hot women. Yeah, they are all over Paul, like you said. I don't know. Oh, it's just Paul. Sorry. It's just Paul. And. [01:35:40] Speaker C: And because Gene's not feeling this. Gene is. Gene's suspicious of the whole. [01:35:44] Speaker B: And then the cherubs start shooting him with arrows at the direction of the angel. [01:35:49] Speaker C: Like Boromir. [01:35:50] Speaker B: Yeah. And he's got arrows sticking out of him. Yeah, it's. Yeah, it is like. Well, he lives. So the. [01:35:59] Speaker C: But like, he breathes fire on these cherubs. We get an amazing panel. It's just a close up of Paul Stanley's shocked, twisted face. And he says, gene, no, man, even for you, this is a dulo blasting Jared. [01:36:12] Speaker B: I mean, and then they turn into giant, green flying demon things. [01:36:20] Speaker A: They look like dogs. [01:36:22] Speaker C: Isn't there, like, a purple gargoyle guy from the Fantastic Four that these guys [01:36:26] Speaker A: look kind of look like? Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe. [01:36:30] Speaker C: But, yeah, it's. It's very. It's getting rainy in here now. We're getting, like, stop motion guys showing up. [01:36:35] Speaker B: Well, and then we get Mephisto. We get a bunch of Kirby Crackle because he shoots angel and then tons of Kirby Crackle. I mean, a whole square of Kirby Crackle. And then Mephisto shows up because we've had Son of Satan in the book already. Right. And. [01:36:51] Speaker C: And, I mean, you know, this is one of those ideas they had. Initially, putting this together is like, we need Gene to fight Mephisto. [01:36:57] Speaker B: Yeah. And then they don't really do it. They just leave. [01:37:03] Speaker C: Well, I mean, Gene's boots come to. [01:37:05] Speaker A: That is true. [01:37:06] Speaker C: His. His dragon. His kinky boots that he wears with the dragon heads on the toes. They come on. You get to see him without him. We get to see Gene in just, like, his long tights because they fly off of his body and they start chomping at Mephisto. [01:37:18] Speaker A: Yeah. And. [01:37:21] Speaker B: And the hag ladies get shot by the star eye. It has another power. Apparently. It disintegrates demons. [01:37:30] Speaker C: It turns you into little slug monsters. He should have tried telling him, Bruce. [01:37:35] Speaker A: That would work. Maybe you think? Yeah. [01:37:39] Speaker B: And then. [01:37:40] Speaker C: I know you hag ladies miss Bruce Lee, too. [01:37:44] Speaker B: She catches up to you. Mephisto grabs him. And then Mephisto sends them away. He's like, be gone. I don't want to deal with you guys. [01:37:56] Speaker C: Yeah. He's like. You guys are irritated. Get the out of here. [01:37:59] Speaker A: This is the vibe. The. [01:38:03] Speaker C: Are these guys yet again a Marvel character going, yeah. [01:38:09] Speaker B: And then we get to chapter three, once again drawn by Alan Weiss. The art quality goes substantially down. That's the problem with putting John Bushima to go draw part of the book. Right. Because then, like, you are carrying the. [01:38:25] Speaker A: We just need you to draw five pages, John. Yeah, Just five pages, please. Just up, up. [01:38:31] Speaker B: The book chapter. [01:38:33] Speaker C: But what a pig. [01:38:34] Speaker B: Chapter three, the Andromeda Hustle. So the cat and Ace show up, and they're at a furry bar. [01:38:45] Speaker C: An intergalactic furry bar. [01:38:48] Speaker B: And yeah, Peter is now among his people. [01:38:52] Speaker C: Ace has to wingman for Peter. [01:38:56] Speaker B: Furry computer, like on a asteroid club. [01:39:03] Speaker C: Looks pretty cool, man. [01:39:04] Speaker B: I think I see Travis Webb in the background. [01:39:07] Speaker A: Yeah, he looks like he's back there. He's like, wait a minute. I got this idea, guys. Hold on. Space cats. Holy. [01:39:16] Speaker B: I mean, you know what's interesting is that I imagine a young Travis read this book about space cats and then later put pirate space cats into a book that he wrote later. [01:39:29] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, exactly. [01:39:31] Speaker B: Completely stealing. Right from the Kiss comic. He did. Yeah. I mean, kind of offensive. Greg, when you all just steal stuff directly from other comics. [01:39:41] Speaker A: Didn't steal it from another comic. We just. [01:39:43] Speaker B: He, He. [01:39:44] Speaker A: He saw this and he's paying homage to it, you hack. [01:39:52] Speaker B: I'm calling it out. [01:39:52] Speaker A: Hey, Travis wrote it. I just massaged the story a bit. [01:39:57] Speaker B: You know, it'd be interesting if Travis was on Grindhouse. Grind Bin reviewing or Grind. [01:40:04] Speaker C: Sorry, no, it's a different show called Grindhouse. Don't. I'm not worried about it. [01:40:07] Speaker B: Oh, we don't want Travis on there. [01:40:11] Speaker C: I. I don't know. I haven't heard that show. [01:40:13] Speaker B: But if the Grind Bin podcast reviewed, say, Nemesis. [01:40:19] Speaker A: Oh, already been done. [01:40:20] Speaker C: You know, we actually might be doing Nemesis at some point. We've done a bunch. Nemesis is a show. We haven't done the show as a show I want. As something I want to do. But we've done some of his even lesser known stuff. We've done two or three. [01:40:33] Speaker B: Well, you know that Travis has the rights to create from Nemesis. And, you know, do you know that he has a Kickstarter coming soon? [01:40:43] Speaker C: I do, actually, because you know what? The episode isn't out yet, but Greg plugged it on our show. [01:40:49] Speaker B: Oh, well, that's fantastic, because we like to plug this Kickstarter on, you know, Kickstarter on the show too. And did you know he's got a whole Kickstarter? It's called Nemesis the Return of Kiss as cyborgs. Hell, yeah. [01:41:08] Speaker A: You know, that's not too far off from the movie you haven't seen. [01:41:14] Speaker B: Which movie? [01:41:15] Speaker A: The. The one that you haven't seen about the roller coaster. [01:41:19] Speaker B: Oh, the Kiss in the roller coaster [01:41:21] Speaker A: or Cyborgs Kiss on the cyborg roller coaster. [01:41:25] Speaker C: Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park With. [01:41:27] Speaker A: With. [01:41:28] Speaker C: Does involve. Does involve robot. [01:41:32] Speaker B: Wait, because they're their Nemesis. [01:41:35] Speaker A: Ah. [01:41:36] Speaker C: Their nemesis creates robot Kiss to take [01:41:39] Speaker B: the place that covers that plug. Because Travis will very be very happy that we covered the, the new launch of the thing that might happen someday. [01:41:48] Speaker A: And, and Travis, being a Juggalo, loves Kiss. [01:41:53] Speaker C: Whoop, whoop. [01:41:54] Speaker B: Didn't you tell me the Juggalos went to the dark side? [01:41:58] Speaker A: I didn't know. [01:41:59] Speaker B: Juggalos worship Darkseid, aren't they, Aren't they like Republicans or something? [01:42:04] Speaker A: No. [01:42:05] Speaker C: Oh, absolutely not. I might actually. Surprisingly progressive. [01:42:11] Speaker B: The, the jugglers, the Juggalos, or the clowns? [01:42:15] Speaker C: Well, I mean, I, I can't speak to all Juggalos. I know that the clowns denounce any, any, any weirdo right wingers in their, in their club. So it's. I think we just got a situation. If you have a right wing Juggalo. I think it's just another person who didn't understand Fight club. I know you have another person who doesn't get, you know, it's one of those, like, I don't really know what these guys stand for. [01:42:36] Speaker B: I just, like, I believe at some point on this podcast in his history, Greg convinced me on the podcast, probably because he was being a jerk, that the miracle song wasn't ironic and they actually meant it. [01:42:48] Speaker A: Oh, I, I, I had said that they're, that they grew up evangelical. [01:42:53] Speaker B: Yeah, but the miracle song. Ironic, right? [01:42:57] Speaker A: No, they don't understand how magic works or how magnets work. [01:43:01] Speaker C: Magnets. [01:43:02] Speaker A: Magnets are magic, Dan. [01:43:04] Speaker B: Like the miracles. Like the tides. [01:43:06] Speaker A: Yes, exactly. And, and why do you eat tide pods? [01:43:10] Speaker B: Yeah, I thought that song was ironic. I thought they were making fun of the right. [01:43:17] Speaker A: They, they believe everyone should have rights. [01:43:21] Speaker C: See, there's a difference between not understanding science and being anti science. They're pro science. They just have no clue how. [01:43:29] Speaker B: Well, they have face paint, so it's a mirror. We're talking about them right now. [01:43:32] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:43:34] Speaker B: Essentially tradition. [01:43:37] Speaker A: Kiss is just early Juggalos. [01:43:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:43:41] Speaker C: In fact, there is a, there is an ICP song. And I'm not a Juggalo. I'm just a worldly man who knows a little bit about a lot of things. But at one point, Violent J does call out Kiss in the early 2000s, where he says, gene Simmons, you make me sick. Psycho circus, you stole my. [01:44:02] Speaker B: So what if. [01:44:04] Speaker C: Still waiting on a response. [01:44:06] Speaker A: Be waiting for a while. [01:44:07] Speaker B: But what if the Kiss demon had wrestled the insane clown? [01:44:15] Speaker C: Did. I mean, they were around pretty close time. Did that ever. Did that cross over? You know, when, when the misfits were there and the insane clown Posse were there. There were a lot of dudes in face paint, man. Buddha came back. [01:44:28] Speaker B: It was, it was Clown posse, I think. Spent more time in WWEF with the Go the Odyssey [01:44:39] Speaker C: Earthquake performing a humiliation. [01:44:43] Speaker B: The only real athlete in the whole federation at the time, I believe. [01:44:48] Speaker C: Yeah, maybe legitimate Sumo ABC Blackman. [01:44:51] Speaker B: But yeah, he was a real deal. Well around too. Yeah. So I guess Shamrock was real. [01:44:59] Speaker C: So we had a handful. [01:45:00] Speaker B: But it's like when you find out [01:45:02] Speaker C: that Bad News Brown was like a [01:45:04] Speaker B: Olympic level judoku, like. Yeah, it's, it's kind of. Well, when you find out that like John Tento was a high level like [01:45:12] Speaker C: sumo guy, school wrestler, crazy like champion. And then he. And you look at his career, it's like this week I'm a shark running around. [01:45:22] Speaker B: The WCW Live thing was running that whole fall brawl with the, the terrible fall brawl with the Dungeon of Doom versus Hell. [01:45:30] Speaker C: Yes. God awful, man. I mean, if there was a comic about the Dungeon of Doom, I'd come back just to talk about those guys for a while because, like, man, I love bad rats. [01:45:40] Speaker B: Well, they pinned. In the fall brawl, they pinned the Zodiac, of course. And then he gets to wrestle Kevin Sullivan, who is Mini Hulk Hogan. So it's because that was when Kevin Sullivan was wearing the red tights with the yellow lightning on them. [01:45:59] Speaker C: The yellow, yeah. [01:46:00] Speaker B: Which doesn't make like if you have Hulk Hogan there, have Kevin Sullivan change his colors because. [01:46:06] Speaker C: And if you're trying to push yourself as this like satanic cult leader, like you know, Evil master, you know, like he's the, he's the taskmaster, you know, he was, you know, he had the skull mask and the hoodie. He was copying everybody's moves. No, if you're, if you're supposed to be this character, you can't have him come to the ring and just his, his, you know, Speedo and little booties, man, like, you gotta, you gotta play it up a bit if you're supposed to be some supernatural character. [01:46:32] Speaker B: Well, and that's why they brought in King Curtis IKEA to do the voiceovers, which was a disaster. [01:46:39] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:46:39] Speaker B: Because this nice man that hangs out on the beach in Hawaii was now like doing evil voiceovers. [01:46:48] Speaker C: Do you reckon his son's career was the make good on that? He was like, look, I'll do this dumb, but like, you gotta keep my son employed for the next several years. Was his nephew. [01:46:58] Speaker B: Or was this a KFAB thing? [01:47:00] Speaker C: No, no, I never knew that. [01:47:03] Speaker B: I don't. [01:47:04] Speaker C: You've bested me in my. In wrestling trivia. Dan, you've made a powerful enemy. [01:47:08] Speaker B: I don't think Prince Ikea was. We can verify that later. But I do not think Prince Iaka was related to King Curtis ikea. [01:47:15] Speaker A: Are you gonna say he's not a real. [01:47:16] Speaker C: Are you some kind of ayakea truther? [01:47:19] Speaker B: Well, it is Hawaii, and it is birth certificates, so, you know. [01:47:22] Speaker A: Oh, my goodness. [01:47:25] Speaker B: In this case, though, we are not in Hawaii. We are Peter. Chris is instantly fallen in love. He is a. They call him a tomcat, actually. And he's smitten by a cake. That's absolutely right. [01:47:39] Speaker C: He meets a cat named Man Do. [01:47:41] Speaker A: Cat. [01:47:43] Speaker B: Holy sh. [01:47:44] Speaker A: Oh, God. [01:47:46] Speaker B: I did miss that, actually. [01:47:47] Speaker C: Oh, wow. [01:47:48] Speaker B: I was thinking. [01:47:49] Speaker C: Yeah. Her name is. Is Mandu, and she's a cat. Cat. [01:47:54] Speaker B: It's because I was thinking, she. He should have met a cat named Bess. [01:47:58] Speaker A: Oh. [01:47:59] Speaker C: Oh, man. When Beth finds out he was up on this satellite trying to bang some Andrew Lloyd Weber chick. [01:48:06] Speaker B: What can he do? I mean, what can he do? [01:48:10] Speaker C: What can he do? I'm sorry. [01:48:13] Speaker B: The boys are caught, and then Meatloaf was here, and he said two out of three cats ain't bad. So it was. [01:48:22] Speaker C: Especially when they're barely 17 and they're barely dressed and kiss is like, I can go for. [01:48:27] Speaker B: And then you don't. [01:48:28] Speaker C: Let me tell you about Chris. [01:48:29] Speaker B: You don't do that. [01:48:31] Speaker C: No, no, I won't do that. [01:48:34] Speaker B: Yeah. And anything, but not that. [01:48:38] Speaker C: Not that. [01:48:38] Speaker B: So, yeah, it's. It's a crazy time. [01:48:44] Speaker C: Everything's happening. [01:48:46] Speaker B: I think. I see. Like, do you think, like, when did Rocky Horror Picture show come out? [01:48:53] Speaker C: Was that 74? [01:48:56] Speaker B: I think so. Gerber had to have seen that, right? [01:49:00] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:49:01] Speaker C: Oh, surely. [01:49:03] Speaker B: Well, we have a cat fight. [01:49:06] Speaker C: Yeah. Because it turns out Catman do is already spoken for. She's got a boyfriend in this very bar, the big cat. Ernie Lad. [01:49:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, we flipped to page 50, and it wasn't the Big Cat or Ernie Lad. In fact, it was Leo the Cat. [01:49:22] Speaker C: But I'm sorry, Big Leo. [01:49:25] Speaker B: We fixed the gates and you can tell. So who drew this one again? Was this Alan Weiss? You can tell that basically, Alan Weiss's goal was actually to take over commandee from Jack Kirby when he left dc. Because this is just a commandy page, is it not? [01:49:47] Speaker C: Yeah, very much. And this also looks like some concept art for Battle Beats. Yes. [01:49:54] Speaker B: Okay. [01:49:55] Speaker C: Like, if they all have their little hologram images on their chests. [01:49:58] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:49:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:49:59] Speaker A: I'm. I'm still trying to figure out what the hell. [01:50:01] Speaker C: Oh, man. The nightclub of Dr. Moreau. [01:50:05] Speaker A: I like that. [01:50:05] Speaker B: That's what this is. [01:50:07] Speaker A: And what does he have in his hand, though? Is that like a magic wand or something? [01:50:12] Speaker C: Some kind of miracle? [01:50:13] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a magic wand. Okay. [01:50:17] Speaker B: It is a magic wand. Wow. [01:50:18] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:50:20] Speaker B: I mean, marital aid, fun, you know, it's all the same. So you flip. Don't find one here. And Leo's agents that look like the Commandee characters decide to take out Ace. Ace is having nothing of that. They dreaded [01:50:40] Speaker A: this page. [01:50:42] Speaker C: The infamous arrows. [01:50:44] Speaker B: Peter's fighting the marital aid. He ducks under Leo. He kicks him in the face with his platform shoes. At the same time, they're trying to dogpile Ace. No pun. Yeah, pun intended. Again. And then. [01:51:00] Speaker C: And Big Leo is shocked that he broke the. The master lock. He's like. He says, no one's ever broken that grip before. [01:51:07] Speaker B: And then Ace puts everybody in a cone of force. [01:51:13] Speaker C: Cone of Silas. [01:51:14] Speaker B: That actual DND spell, Greg. [01:51:16] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:51:18] Speaker B: Is it? [01:51:18] Speaker A: Yeah, I. I think it might. [01:51:20] Speaker C: I can picture Gene having to explain this to the other three guys in the band because Gene was the big comic nerd and the other three guys were just like, I'm here to play music, dude. What we doing? What am I, a space man? All right, fine. [01:51:32] Speaker B: It. Whatever. Anyway, he says, they're not gonna hurt me, Curly. [01:51:35] Speaker A: And [01:51:38] Speaker B: Peter begs off on the girl. He's like, I've. I've gotta go. And they hit Leo. He's pulling a bath on Leo one more time. [01:51:47] Speaker C: He's like, I'm sorry, baby, but the boys are calling. [01:51:50] Speaker B: He says, I see Gene and Paul and Vanilla. I don't know what they're referencing. [01:51:58] Speaker C: Yeah, I got nothing. [01:51:59] Speaker B: Oh, is it. The guy must be. Maybe is vanilla. Mr. I've already forgotten his name. [01:52:07] Speaker A: Mr. Frizzle. No, Mr. Dizzy. He's got a magic school of us he's waiting for. [01:52:13] Speaker B: His official name is not Dizzy, though. It is Dizzy the Hun. [01:52:20] Speaker A: Dizzy. [01:52:22] Speaker C: Dizzy the Hun. Benji the Hunter. [01:52:24] Speaker B: Is that like Matilda the Hun from Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling? [01:52:28] Speaker A: Oh, could be. [01:52:29] Speaker C: Yes. This dude is definitely one of the [01:52:31] Speaker B: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. If they're all champions in the ring. They come from the streets. They come from the city. They come from a world where there is no pretty. [01:52:40] Speaker A: Yes. Yeah. [01:52:44] Speaker B: Okay, so [01:52:49] Speaker A: I. [01:52:51] Speaker B: We're gonna get done with this book. I promise. All right. Chapter four. [01:52:54] Speaker C: We're almost there. [01:52:55] Speaker B: Chapter four. Well, it is like a 60 page book, you know? [01:52:57] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:52:58] Speaker B: See Latveria and Die super special. This one is John by Rick By. By Rich Buckler. Didn't Rich Buckler draw the Karate Kid book, Greg? [01:53:08] Speaker A: I think so, yeah. I almost picked one up for you yesterday. [01:53:14] Speaker B: Oh, God. [01:53:15] Speaker A: I, I, I, I was so close. And then Anne was like, no, don't. And then it was a matter of. [01:53:22] Speaker B: It was either. Why do you listen to Anne? [01:53:25] Speaker A: Why? Yeah, why did I listen to her? Well, it was, it was like, buy that. And then a bunch of wild cats. And I was like, I don't think Dan has any of these. [01:53:41] Speaker B: Well, I mean, I only have, like, 18, 000 comic books, so. [01:53:46] Speaker A: Well, if you want them, they're over at West Coast Cards of Comics. [01:53:50] Speaker B: Are they in Federal Way down in Auburn now? [01:53:54] Speaker A: The, the new shop. [01:53:55] Speaker B: The new shop. The new shop that's, you know, Bobby. We found at West Coast Cards and Comics. Once I got very excited about finding some Whitman covers, and Greg hasn't let me live that down forever because I was so, just blatantly excited about. [01:54:10] Speaker A: He was so excited they raised their prices, though. I mean, like, and it's stupid. It's stupid. All their, like, yeah, stuff that should be like, under a buck is like three bucks. [01:54:25] Speaker B: So, I mean, I'm stupid. Yeah, well, I mean, they got to make money in this economy. [01:54:31] Speaker A: No, it's not even worth, it's not, it is not, not worth, not worth it. [01:54:37] Speaker B: Oh, I think I'm wrong. It was Rick Estrada, not Rick Buck. Rich Buckler. So that would be the difference. The, just the. Bobby, if you have no idea, the, the Karate Kid book was a much maligned book at DC. They put it out in 1976. They took Karate Kid from the 31st century, 30th century, and put him in the 20th century. And the problem with putting out a paint thing. Karate book in 1976. Yeah, well, the problem with putting out a karate book in 1976 is what [01:55:12] Speaker A: everybody wants to do. Kung fu, not karate. [01:55:16] Speaker B: They're about five to six to 10 years behind the trend. [01:55:21] Speaker C: Yeah, more or less. I mean, we're talking early 70s was the martial arts boom. We're on the tail end. It's like doing slasher stuff. And so, yeah, you, you miss the big boom. I mean, you get, I mean, obviously Shangchi and Iron Fist are still hopping around, but, like, it's not, it's not permeated everywhere like it was. [01:55:42] Speaker B: But the Marvel connection there was not Rich Buckler, but it was David Michelinie who wrote that trash series, who then went on to write Demon in a Bottle for Iron Man. Like, yeah. [01:55:55] Speaker C: Wow. [01:55:57] Speaker A: Good run. [01:55:58] Speaker B: Yeah. So he obviously traded up going back to Marvel well, anyway, Lavera die. We've got everybody up here. [01:56:08] Speaker C: We're in the Alps. [01:56:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:56:11] Speaker C: We flew air at Latvaria. [01:56:14] Speaker B: We've touched down on play hard, play fair, and nobody hurt. [01:56:19] Speaker C: Never explain what that's about. [01:56:20] Speaker A: I want that shirt, though. I want to make one. [01:56:23] Speaker C: It's just a Where's the beef shirt. Like, it doesn't mean anything. [01:56:25] Speaker B: My thought is that the artists always wanted to draw mister Terrific, [01:56:32] Speaker C: and this was their take. This is how mister Terrific shows drawn [01:56:37] Speaker B: by John Buscema again, by the way. So the art has stepped up even in the KISS figures. Like, they come in even in their body proportion. It's. John Bashima is really good at drawing. [01:56:52] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [01:56:54] Speaker B: Alan Weiss. [01:56:55] Speaker A: Okay. [01:56:55] Speaker B: At drawing, I guess. I wonder which pages Sal drew. Did we figure that out yet? [01:57:02] Speaker C: Yeah, I need, like, a guide showing me who drew what. [01:57:06] Speaker B: Well, we get back to Liberia, and since we are at, like an hour and 57 minutes already of this podcast, [01:57:13] Speaker C: we're gonna need to speed run the end of this thing. [01:57:14] Speaker B: We're gonna tell you we have the same fight because they. They. Because KISS tells you they have the same fight. Instead of fighting fembots, they fight doombots that are in monk robes. [01:57:26] Speaker C: They're dressed like jawas. They're. They're walking single file. And those are the sand people. [01:57:33] Speaker A: I mean, you know, I mean, j. Live in the sand. They got the big shot. [01:57:37] Speaker C: They're people in the sand. [01:57:38] Speaker A: They caught the. [01:57:39] Speaker C: The. The. The. [01:57:40] Speaker A: The droids and stuff like that, and they put. And the same people, they do the same kind of thing. I mean, it's similar, but different. Ish. [01:57:47] Speaker C: Yeah, but yeah, KISS is. Is whooping robot ass until. [01:57:52] Speaker B: Until lips show up and start sucking. Kiss. [01:57:57] Speaker C: Yeah. The. The ground rises up into a. A puckering mouth. [01:58:01] Speaker A: Suck my kiss. [01:58:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:58:04] Speaker C: Whoa. They could have been. Should have been. Would have been dead. [01:58:09] Speaker B: It. In fact. In fact, Peter says it's sucking us in, and I can't resist. [01:58:23] Speaker C: To which space says, now, boys, one [01:58:26] Speaker B: doesn't resist a lover, so they're really infatuated with these rock lips that have come out of the sky until. Until Paul hits the thing with a star beam and he tells everybody to go limp. [01:58:43] Speaker C: Oh, what a. That's a superpower, man. If I. If I stare at you, you go limp. [01:58:50] Speaker A: Oh, man, it worked. [01:58:55] Speaker C: Hey, why doesn't. Why doesn't Ghost Rider do that to [01:58:57] Speaker A: me and co. Limp? [01:58:59] Speaker B: Apparently Paul does it. Paul wants to be the only sex symbol in the band. [01:59:03] Speaker C: The impotent stare. [01:59:06] Speaker B: Paul has the impotent stare because he can't handle another sex symbol in the band. What a wingman that Paul is. The impotent stare. That's. [01:59:18] Speaker C: But this is where they end up on the COVID of the comic. [01:59:20] Speaker B: Yeah, well, yeah, that's true. Because now this floating orange rock in [01:59:24] Speaker C: space to fight Dr. Doom. This is like Marvel versus Capcom. We got the end, boss. [01:59:29] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. [01:59:29] Speaker B: And Dr. Doom just takes them all out, like, way. [01:59:33] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. He backhands. There's a shot where he backhands Paul so hard his nipple moves up to his. His throat. [01:59:39] Speaker A: It does. And it's like that pepperoni just keeps moving. [01:59:46] Speaker C: Pepperoni flipped up onto his. [01:59:49] Speaker B: Eating a pizza. [01:59:50] Speaker A: Pizza. And the pepperoni's moving around. It's all hot and stuff. Like that oily old still. [01:59:54] Speaker B: Damn it. He shocks Gene, which was the wrong one to shock. [02:00:03] Speaker A: He just powered him up. [02:00:05] Speaker B: I almost broke Bobby there. [02:00:06] Speaker A: Okay, [02:00:09] Speaker B: so. And Ace is not shocked. [02:00:15] Speaker A: The. [02:00:15] Speaker B: The star eye, which is the most powerful thing, clearly hits Dr. Doom. Notice he's lost his hair. [02:00:23] Speaker C: He's like. He's like Dr. Doom. You ever heard of Bruce Lee? [02:00:28] Speaker A: Oh, no. [02:00:29] Speaker C: God. [02:00:29] Speaker A: He's crying. His mask starts rusty. Why couldn't it have been me getting all rusty? [02:00:35] Speaker C: His little boy, he starts creaking like the Tin Man. He just freaks. [02:00:39] Speaker B: Well, and I don't know who the narrator suddenly becomes either, because suddenly we have a narrator this whole section. [02:00:45] Speaker C: Yeah. [02:00:46] Speaker B: Touche. For the merest moment, Doom hesitates, startled by an apparent affected. Apparently affected by Aces off the wall. Admonition. Admonition. Can I say that? Say that. Great. [02:00:58] Speaker A: Oh, my God. Well, it's. It's. It is. [02:01:00] Speaker B: It is like I have a degree in Bruce Lee thing. [02:01:03] Speaker A: Because, I mean, he's sitting there and he's like, oh, my gosh. Bruce Lee had a child, and now he's dead. And that child has to be fatherless. [02:01:16] Speaker C: I need you to be sad for Brandon Lee. [02:01:22] Speaker A: And he. Well. [02:01:23] Speaker B: But Ace tells him he must have been a kid once. And that distracts Dr. Doom. And that breaks because he's like, I guess I was a kid once, and my mom left me this cool box that you stole. He's. [02:01:35] Speaker C: He's even stronger now. [02:01:37] Speaker A: Now he's MF2. [02:01:41] Speaker C: He's MF and Doom. [02:01:42] Speaker B: What if Doom just became all four kiss characters at the same time? [02:01:47] Speaker C: Oh, like you don't know which one you're getting. He's got all their powers, and if every time he takes the mask off, there's a different face paint under it. [02:01:55] Speaker A: Now, that's an ultimate. [02:01:57] Speaker B: Well, he's the four who are one. They hit Dr. Doom with the magic emotion power. And he sees his mommy and his Grim pass. [02:02:08] Speaker C: And then we also get the reveal that that Dizzy was like, I don't know, his uncle or some what Dizzy [02:02:15] Speaker B: cared for, killed my father. This guy took cared for me, but he stole my cool box. Now I hate him. And. And then Doom just decides to like, basically just kind of let them all go. [02:02:31] Speaker C: He banishes them one more time for the road. A Marvel character goes. [02:02:35] Speaker A: These guys, it just gets about it. [02:02:40] Speaker C: Like, what the hell? [02:02:42] Speaker B: Yeah, for a second here too. Yeah. So, yeah, basically we had Kiss in the Marvel Universe until they weren't. [02:02:51] Speaker C: Yeah. And like this we. We close it up with them. Like, boy, that was a weird adventure, wasn't it, guys? But now we got these superpowers. Hey, the word kids kind of sounds like the word kiss. Let's call ourselves kiss. [02:03:02] Speaker B: Hey, Scoob in the gang. That's a cool adventure, guys. Yeah, great. [02:03:10] Speaker C: Maybe we'll be back one day in a movie. And they do come back in a movie. And also another Marvel comic, Super Special. I believe they have a short in Super Special 5. But this is the last time we do a comic dedicated to Kiss in [02:03:25] Speaker A: the Marvel blood to give. [02:03:28] Speaker B: There were the appearances, right? Defenders or no, in Howard the Duck. Sorry, two appearances. Howard the Duck here is here. [02:03:35] Speaker C: And then they get an image on going in the turn of the millennium. I read that when I was a young teen, they had kissed Psycho Circus in Image. [02:03:43] Speaker B: Nobody talks about that. Is that what he said? [02:03:47] Speaker C: I mean, that is true. Nobody really talks about that. There was an action. A couple action figures that came out. McFarland got real into like Kiss for. [02:03:55] Speaker B: For us. [02:03:56] Speaker A: How many action figures do you own, Bobby? Oh, really? [02:04:01] Speaker C: I don't have any of those. Where could I get those if I [02:04:04] Speaker A: didn't get them at the Retro Emporium. [02:04:05] Speaker B: And where is the Retro Emporium? [02:04:07] Speaker A: Downtown Kent. On Meeker. [02:04:09] Speaker B: What street? [02:04:10] Speaker A: On Meeker street. Where you can relive your childhood. Oh, and if you missed out on. If you missed out on. On Kiss Psycho Circus action figures, you can get them there when we have them. [02:04:24] Speaker C: Hell yeah. [02:04:25] Speaker B: And who doesn't work at the Retro Emporium, Dan? [02:04:29] Speaker A: No, because the Squacho Man's coming back, folks. Holy crap. [02:04:33] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I can't. [02:04:35] Speaker A: I can't do it. Because that's a Squacho man thing. [02:04:39] Speaker B: So Marvel Comics puts out an entire one page survey to try to get. Send it in. [02:04:46] Speaker A: Hey, yo. [02:04:49] Speaker B: And as we know from The Internet. Everyone loves surveys. [02:04:51] Speaker A: Oh, man. [02:04:53] Speaker B: If you fill out this survey, I'm not sure what you get for doing it. [02:04:59] Speaker A: Crawdaddy. [02:05:00] Speaker B: Oh, you can win artwork. That's right. [02:05:03] Speaker C: Oh, you get. You get a page of this comic. [02:05:06] Speaker B: Oh, that's pretty cool. That is pretty. [02:05:08] Speaker C: Oh, man, I hope I get that one where Paul Stanley's nipple moves up. How many. [02:05:13] Speaker B: How many people cut this page out, making the now $500 book worthless and didn't win the artwork? [02:05:20] Speaker A: Oh, that's. [02:05:21] Speaker C: Oh, God. And now they're looking on ebay going, what the. [02:05:23] Speaker A: What did I do? [02:05:25] Speaker C: Oh, they're going, oh, God, Bruce Lee is dead. [02:05:29] Speaker A: We want you to join the Marvel army. [02:05:32] Speaker B: Now, I'm gonna say, I didn't hate this story. I actually thought it was a fun story. [02:05:38] Speaker C: Fun, isn't it? [02:05:39] Speaker B: What I will say is the most interesting as a historian part of this entire thing was page 66, where they explain how the comic was made. [02:05:48] Speaker C: Yes. [02:05:49] Speaker B: And everything that went into it. [02:05:51] Speaker C: There's a lot of. A lot of inside baseball. Imagine being a kid reading this stuff. [02:05:55] Speaker B: I love this. It explains why Alan Weiss didn't get to draw the whole thing. Just like you said, they ran out of time that they got John Costanza and Irv Watanabe for letters. Everybody loves John Costanza's letters, so, you know, that's fantastic. Explains how Al ended up inking the book and talks about the labor, talks about how cost intensive it was. Yeah, it was a cool little thing. And then we get the. We get an advertisement for some Kiss albums and. [02:06:28] Speaker C: Because I think Love Gun was about to come out, so, like, good time to be a. A young Kiss fan. [02:06:34] Speaker B: And we get a sad, sad, sad doom on the back cover. So, yeah, I mean, this is a. It's a fun book. It was a good choice, Bobby. I. [02:06:46] Speaker C: And thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really had a good time with it, too. I was. It was surprisingly. [02:06:51] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, I've been poking at it a little bit, but I really. I read it in, like, two sittings. Uh, didn't take me long. And it was only because I fell asleep and almost dropped a tablet on my nose last night that I didn't need to read it last night. Uh, and so had to finish up reading this morning. But, yeah, it was. It was. It was a fun book. And I think, you know, it's interesting how it places in history, right, Being in this tabloid run. And then they're going to have, you know, several other tabloids after this one under this Marvel Super Spectacular banner. [02:07:24] Speaker C: Yeah. They do a bit of a run with these books and it was always a different subject for each one. There wasn't like an ongoing. This is what this magazine is going to be about. Like, they always chose a different thing. [02:07:34] Speaker B: Yeah, they ended up doing 41 of them. [02:07:37] Speaker A: 41 in a row. [02:07:40] Speaker B: One of which I have, that Greg's gonna steal from me. [02:07:45] Speaker A: What? [02:07:46] Speaker B: Did you already forget? Okay, I'm keeping it then. [02:07:47] Speaker A: You already forgot I gave you one. [02:07:50] Speaker B: No, you did not give me one. [02:07:52] Speaker A: I did. I gave you Dr. Strange. I. I gave him Dr. Strange. [02:08:03] Speaker B: Sorry, it's Marvel treasury edition. [02:08:05] Speaker A: Oh, Treasure. Is it? No, you've already. [02:08:07] Speaker B: You've already forgotten. I got this @summercon after you went home because. [02:08:10] Speaker A: What is it? [02:08:11] Speaker B: Oh, go to the store. [02:08:13] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I had to go work. Oh. Oh, yes, yes. Yeah, yeah. [02:08:16] Speaker C: Oh, that's great. [02:08:17] Speaker A: Cool. I. I'll call it a trade for the doctor Strange I gave you. [02:08:22] Speaker B: We don't trade. [02:08:23] Speaker C: What? [02:08:24] Speaker A: Wow. [02:08:26] Speaker B: We don't trade. [02:08:27] Speaker A: It was a. Then. Then you. You can gift that to me for the gift I gave you a gift. Oh, son of a. There was no gift, Craig. [02:08:39] Speaker B: Bobby hasn't seen this. [02:08:42] Speaker C: Oh, that's great. [02:08:45] Speaker B: Why are we showing things? We're delaying the end of the podcast, so. I mean, good news, by the way. [02:08:51] Speaker C: I'm trying to get to a grind. [02:08:53] Speaker A: Just showed off. Yeah. [02:08:54] Speaker B: We're getting his Christmas presents. Yeah. So good book. We proudly. [02:09:00] Speaker A: What his character would you be if you could get the power to be one? [02:09:07] Speaker C: Oh, that's interesting. I mean, I. I think I. I want the Paul Stanley Stargaze man. [02:09:11] Speaker B: Stargaze. [02:09:12] Speaker A: The star eye. [02:09:13] Speaker B: Star eye sounds. [02:09:14] Speaker A: So it sounds kind of dirty. [02:09:16] Speaker C: And I. I'm a. I'm a hirsute gentleman. I gotta. [02:09:18] Speaker B: I gotta. [02:09:18] Speaker C: I got a Paul Stanley chest, so. I mean, I feel like I have to be the Star Trek. What? Fanfellas. [02:09:24] Speaker B: Well, I definitely couldn't fill out the Paul Stanley chest, so that would not work for me. I'd probably have to be Ace. I'd probably have to be all the magic. All right. Stuff around. Yeah. I wouldn't want to call people. [02:09:38] Speaker C: Calling people curly. [02:09:41] Speaker A: I wanted to be. I wanted to be. I wanted to be Ace. [02:09:45] Speaker C: You'll put on the cat makeup. You'll like it. [02:09:47] Speaker B: You have to be Noon's Gene. Or. No, you're Chris. [02:09:53] Speaker A: I'll. I'll be. [02:09:54] Speaker C: You could be the encorer. I don't even know what that does. [02:09:57] Speaker B: You could be the Fox. [02:10:01] Speaker C: The Fox was pretty cool. [02:10:02] Speaker B: He was a very saying that so [02:10:04] Speaker A: feel so bad about the choice that I'm not getting to make. [02:10:07] Speaker B: Right? [02:10:08] Speaker C: You are. Once again, you are. [02:10:10] Speaker A: Like when I got the ice cream, it made me allergic. Wait. That I was allergic to. And then said, just eat it, Greg. Fine, I'll be the Fox. Everybody knows what the Fox says. [02:10:23] Speaker C: He's back there at the drum kit going, [02:10:28] Speaker B: do you know that they did in Marvel Super Spectacular number 26, they did James Bond 007, Octopussy. [02:10:39] Speaker C: Oh, wow. I'm gonna have to read that. [02:10:42] Speaker A: Now [02:10:44] Speaker C: I'm just picking random dizzy and he fights doctor. [02:10:49] Speaker B: Oh my God. [02:10:51] Speaker A: That would be actually pretty funny. [02:10:57] Speaker C: I'm at the nightclub with Dr. Baron in issue 17. [02:11:00] Speaker B: They did Xanadu. The Xanadu you're thinking of. [02:11:05] Speaker C: That is one of the. I am a massive Michael Beck fan. So, like, I need. I need that. [02:11:09] Speaker A: That is one of the best movies out there. It is. [02:11:13] Speaker B: Olivia John is on the COVID Ah, so good. [02:11:16] Speaker C: We're getting some. Some classic Marvel art drawing. [02:11:20] Speaker B: Gene Ken Ever. [02:11:23] Speaker A: Okay. Do you think if they redid Xanadu, who would they cast now? [02:11:29] Speaker C: You just don't have those kinds of people anymore, man. [02:11:31] Speaker B: That's true. [02:11:31] Speaker A: You don't. [02:11:32] Speaker B: You can't be Olivia Newton John. Is that the question? [02:11:35] Speaker A: Yeah, but I. You're right. Bobby's right. They just don't have. They. They just don't. It doesn't. [02:11:39] Speaker B: No, they do. I got this. Hang on. I think it would be. Well, no, that. You're right. Bobby's correct. Because they would end up casting like a 45 year old [02:11:54] Speaker C: right. [02:11:54] Speaker B: When they should be casting a 25 year old. But they put lightly. They like Lady Gaga as Xanad. [02:12:02] Speaker C: Yeah, right. We'd end up doing that and it's just. It wouldn't be the same. [02:12:06] Speaker A: It wouldn't be good. Just wouldn't be good. Well, I'm sorry I even asked. [02:12:13] Speaker C: Well, anyway, man, do we think Xanadu is good? [02:12:16] Speaker B: Yeah, it's great. [02:12:17] Speaker A: It's fantastic. Yes. Okay. [02:12:21] Speaker B: Okay. [02:12:22] Speaker C: Yes. [02:12:23] Speaker A: The answer is. The answer is those. [02:12:25] Speaker B: The answer is those things. [02:12:27] Speaker A: Have you just listened to the soundtrack? [02:12:28] Speaker B: It's so good. [02:12:30] Speaker A: This makes me want to go roller skating. [02:12:33] Speaker C: Hell yeah. Let's go. [02:12:36] Speaker B: Let's do that. Wait, what is this? Volume one, number five, Marvel Super Special. Kiss [02:12:43] Speaker C: that. Like I said, they. They do reappear in a later Marvel Super Special for like a backup story. It's just like we check back in. I have not read that yet, but I understand that they do. They come back for part. [02:12:53] Speaker A: They give the box to another band and that band is Bonjour. [02:12:57] Speaker B: Oh, that's Dizzy. Other appearance. [02:13:00] Speaker A: Ah. [02:13:01] Speaker C: Oh, Dizzy brings them back. Oh, we're gonna have to look at [02:13:06] Speaker B: issue five, Marvel Super Special five. Okay. Project Bobby, sir, just the podcast. What. What do you. What are we working on? [02:13:17] Speaker C: That's pretty much it, man. You know, I am. My home turf is the Grime Bin podcast. That's where you could find me. Right now we're in the middle of. We're finishing up Summer Sequel Month, one of our event months we do every year where for a month long, everything that we cover is a just 449 episodes. Dude. That's it. You know, we're lazy that way. We've only been doing this for 10 years, but. But yeah, we end. And coming up very soon, folks at home, if you're interested, we have the. The super bowl, the World Series of the Grind Bin happens once a year every November. We. We celebrate camvember, where for an entire month we celebrate the. The filmography of one Cameron Mitchell. [02:14:03] Speaker A: So good. [02:14:04] Speaker C: And I have picked some doozies this year, so I don't want to spoil anything there, but if you're going to tune in, these are two good months to do it right now for Summer Sequel Month and a little bit later from now for Camvember. Okay, There is. Are you familiar with Cameron Mitchell, Dan? [02:14:21] Speaker A: Oh, [02:14:23] Speaker C: he was an actor who starred in a bunch of like, you know, westerns and whatnot back in the day. But then once he got to the 70s and 80s, he was a dude who would just show up in anything, man. Just some of the bottom of the barrel shit. And he was usually visibly intoxicated in the movies. He'd be in a character unto himself who commands attention. [02:14:43] Speaker B: I will. I will have to tune in and then catch up on some of these movies. Yeah, because we're. We're a future guest next month. Travis Bundy draws, like movie poster things. [02:14:56] Speaker C: Yes, yes, I love that. [02:14:57] Speaker B: And that's cool. He also is one of the people that pushes the. A big horror movie night in Tacoma once a month on Fridays. So it's. It'll be interesting how we're intersecting our universes here. Greg, we have already advertised the shop and I understand you're here to announce that Junior Braves number three is going to be going up on Kickstarter and we're breaking an exclusive right here first on. On the podcast. [02:15:26] Speaker A: We are not putting Junior Brace number three on the Kickstarter yet. [02:15:31] Speaker B: No, you told me I would get the exclusive. [02:15:33] Speaker A: I told you you're going to get an exclusive. When we do. We. We haven't even talked about that yet. Like, I mean, Tanner and I have not even talked about any of the. Any of the stuff, so how can I break something for you about something that hasn't even happened yet? All I can tell you is that we are. We are currently working on. [02:15:56] Speaker B: Bobby is here, and he wanted the announcement, and he was waiting for it to come. [02:16:00] Speaker A: Oh, yes, yes. Bobby's like, yes, please tell me about Tanner stuff. We are. [02:16:06] Speaker C: I have to know. We are. [02:16:09] Speaker A: We're currently working. We're currently working on issue three. For all those who have been following along for the last many, many years. Gosh, it's like over a decade. But we are. We don't. We don't have. We don't have any more details to give you. [02:16:27] Speaker B: Okay, well, just monitor CBR and they'll make an announcement. [02:16:31] Speaker A: Yeah. [02:16:32] Speaker B: Gives them the official announcement. Later on. It'll be. It'll be smashed in between 18 listicles about the worst superhero powers. [02:16:41] Speaker A: So, I mean, but I promise, Dan, I promise you will be the first to hear about it. You'll be. You'll be breaking news. I won't post about it until I tell you about it. And then you can break the news to the Internet. And. And at that point, if you want to actually break the Tanner van and have Tanner on the show. The unofficial Tanner. He shakes his head. No. [02:17:05] Speaker B: No, no, no. I didn't get invited to Rose City Comic Con, so that's it. [02:17:12] Speaker C: There ain't no Tanner, and there never was. [02:17:15] Speaker B: Well, until I'm invited back to a panel, there's still a band, so that's. The unofficial ban, will continue until I'm invited back. [02:17:24] Speaker A: Yep. [02:17:27] Speaker B: So the last thing, of course, if you need legal tr. If you're in legal trouble. [02:17:33] Speaker A: Yeah. [02:17:34] Speaker B: Does Bobby know what to do? [02:17:35] Speaker A: I don't think Bobby knows what to do if you're in legal trouble, but do you guys. [02:17:40] Speaker C: What do I do? [02:17:41] Speaker B: You know what to do. Like, in California, like, let's say you have a. Let's say you're a horrible fang company, laid you off for no reason, even though you're a really top performing employee, [02:17:54] Speaker C: and then, well, I'd really be in the soup. Then what do I do? [02:17:58] Speaker B: I don't know. And even if they said things like, man, we can't have you here because you have a disability. That'd be terrible, right? This is. This is terrible. [02:18:08] Speaker C: What recourse do I have? [02:18:09] Speaker B: Well, you have a lot of recourse, and you know who to ask about it. You could ask Jiu Jitsu lawyer Paul, and you can call Jiu Jitsu Lawyer Paul at 253-656-4475. And you know, you'll, you'll meet, you'll talk to Kelly, his assistant, and guess what? You can set up an appointment with Jiu Jitsu or Paul, and you could find out all about whether or not you have a case, because he's going to be honest with you. Because you know why? Well, because he takes these cases, they're called contingent cases, and if he doesn't win, he doesn't get paid. So he's going to be real honest with you about whether or not you have a case. Because if he can't help you win, then he can't help you. But if he can, he's going to tell you. [02:18:51] Speaker C: And that's the kind of guy I'm looking for. [02:18:54] Speaker B: He's licensed in both California and Washington. [02:18:57] Speaker A: That, that means he can help people everywhere but Oregon on the west coast, [02:19:03] Speaker B: at least all the states that count. Yes. [02:19:05] Speaker A: So, okay. [02:19:08] Speaker B: All the real estate. Yeah. So, yeah, that's fantastic. And guess what? That's 253-656-4475. Before Greg asks again, I was just [02:19:20] Speaker A: gonna ask what that number was because I didn't get a chance to write it down. Dan. [02:19:24] Speaker B: Yeah, so say it again. Nothing like a Jiu Jitsu Lawyer Paul plug at 2 hours and 19 minutes into the podcast, I'm sure he'll appreciate that. [02:19:32] Speaker C: That's when it really hits him. [02:19:34] Speaker B: If you want to train Jiu Jitsu with Jiu Jitsu Warrior Paul, you could go to certified martial arts on 27th and Bridgeport. Slash Jackson right here in Tacoma, Washington. Beautiful place. [02:19:46] Speaker A: What do they do there? [02:19:47] Speaker B: Jujitsu Martial arts. Yeah. Now, if you want to show up at 11 o' clock on a Saturday morning, most Saturdays you can carry around 150 and 200 pound sandbags with me. But everybody says no all the time, so nobody wants to do that. I don't know why. [02:20:03] Speaker C: For whatever reason, people don't seem to think that we're a workout plan. [02:20:07] Speaker B: It's a workout. [02:20:09] Speaker C: It's a montage. [02:20:11] Speaker B: Juliet is often there. [02:20:13] Speaker A: It turns you into a Super Dan. [02:20:17] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I. [02:20:18] Speaker C: There's no easy way out. [02:20:20] Speaker B: Yes, exactly. Except you're. [02:20:23] Speaker C: You're so close. [02:20:24] Speaker B: But I play episodes of Dragon Ball Z while I am. [02:20:28] Speaker C: Oh, and finally, how's that power level looking? [02:20:33] Speaker B: Power level is looking good because he just survived an entire planet of Nemec blowing up. Oh, and good news. They tried to get the Dragon Balls to invite to wish him back to Earth. And he was like, no, I'm not coming. And I don't know what happens until next week when I lift more sandbags. So it's a. [02:20:53] Speaker C: It's a. [02:20:53] Speaker B: It's a terrible state right now because I've never watched Dragon Ball Z. I've only seen Dragon Ball Z abridged, so I don't know exactly what happens yet. The suspense is yelling me to go lift more sandbags. [02:21:07] Speaker C: Bags [02:21:10] Speaker B: 200 pound sandbag heavy. But when Goku is fighting things, that is important. So, you know, he's just. And since it only takes like 14 episodes to get through one storyline, you know, it goes quick. So, yeah, heart of the cards. Heart of the cards. That's how we're ending this podcast. Nobody will get that reference. [02:21:35] Speaker C: Play hard, play doesn't matter. Worth it. [02:21:38] Speaker B: All good. [02:21:39] Speaker C: Nobody heard it. [02:21:40] Speaker B: We probably should end this thing because it's been going on for a long time. But thank you for joining us to review Marvel Super Spectacular number one. [02:21:47] Speaker C: It has been an absolute pleasure, guys. Thank you so much for joining us. [02:21:50] Speaker B: I'm gonna hit the stop button now because Greg's incapable of hitting buttons. [02:21:54] Speaker A: Bye, everyone.
